I've got a load of tyres I need to get rid of, all scrap. I used to drop them in the wheelie bin but the binmen have got wise to me.

How do you lot get rid of them?

Try a farmer for silage cover

Failing that I've never liked the Trent.

Do tyre garages sell the ones they swap over or have to pay for them to be taken away? Failing that as above I'm sure a local farmer would take them or maybe offer them for free to whoever collects on Freecycle/Gumtree.

Don't know about your local council, but when I lived in Bucks, they'd take tyres at the tip, but would relieve you of some money. At the time it was £2.50 a tyre.

Looked it up now, can't see charges, but they'll only take up to 5. Change jacket, parting and vehicle, then repeat.

Have you got a local go-kart track who might need some crash barrier??

Failing that paint half red and half white and build a chicane on your nearest main road. Just for the lolz...

A place here takes them for nowt cos they build them bouncy soft  tarmac paths and stuff.

Or move to France and build a house out of them. Must be true, seen it on that Grand Designs bollocks.

Is Winnie Mandela still in the market for them?

(Sorry, poor taste)

I think it's OK just to burn them in your garden. No need for a wood burner either. Just do it. No-one really minds.

My local tyre place knows me and will take them for free, though I might be pushing my luck with a van load.

Nearest canal or country road in a farmers gateway??

Posted

NB, I don't want to pay to dispose of them.

Local authority shouldn't charge, they don't mention it on their website, but don't go in with large amounts.

Grow some tatties in them?

Posted

On their PDF tyres are on a list of items they *may* charge for. Maybe I should just ring up or something.

Funny how they don't charge for scrap metal or car batteries.

Another thought is, you could buy scrap cars with good tyres on, swap the good tyres for your bad ones, then weigh the car in to get rid of the bad tyres and sell the good tyres on gumtree/ebay.

I'm sure there may be a flaw in this somewhere, but I can't see it myself

You're correct. The flaw is that scrapyards charge for tyres.

Drive round to your local tyre merchant after hours and lob them in their skip.

Paint them white and find someone who wants to go to a fancy dress party as Michelin man?

I just take them to our local council operated tip/recycling centre and get rid FOC but recently I was stopped and told max of 5 tyres per visit. There is also a place nearby that shreds them for reuse but they charge 75p plus Vat a tyre. To be fair though the bloke who counts them must have been off school every tuesday when they had double maths :-D

O/p, just chuck them in the canal, along with any old car batteries. Remember, the baby Jesus loves a nice big splash!

How many tyres are we talking of?

Do you know anyone with a boat?

Chuck them over a lamppost. Or if they are really old and fucked, take them to the part worn tyre 'specialist' near Rotherham.
