Its in the Daily Mail it must be true!

Well if you like, i can find exactly the same story in many other papers. Which would you like me to post...

The brainless dismissal of a story , which can be verified by googling, just because you dont like the paper really doesnt constitute a sound valid basis to be regarded as a reasonable debater of information.......

For a start "Research by the University of Leeds "

I suspect if the Daily Mail invented a story and quoted such an exact source is likelt to get the balls sued off them by the University.

The report seems to have been led by THIS guy

http://www.its.leeds.ac.uk/people/j.tate

Who definitely exists.

and heres a previous report, about the emission sensing kit they used

http://www.its.leeds.ac.uk/research/facilities-old/vems/

SO, looks like you're arbitrary offhand dismissal of the story, just because its in the Daily Mail, turns out to be baseless

I do my research.  If I post a story, dont ever doubt I can back it it up if pushed....

The comments are brilliant, I love reading Daily Fail readers replies.

"I bought a Vauxhall diesel as an investment, now I'm going to be losing money".

Yeah, I've got a Astra TD in the cupboard with my Fabergé eggs.

I get the impression that the comment about the Daily Fail was partly said in jest and you've fallen hook, line and sinker into that one. However, I agree with your overall point that when reading the link, it's actually nowt to do with Daily Fail as such and the points made are well researched.

The outcomes of the Vauxhall tests are basically what I was saying all along; diesel is a dirty fuel and unless manufacturers other than VAG are magicians, there's a limit to how clean you can get derv to burn.

I reckon we're on the verge of a shitstorm with modern diesels. I've read mutterings of changes to tax costings for them, and it's inevitable that the fuhrers will eventually push them off the road.

For now, I'll enjoy the diesel sipping economy of my old A4 PD130, which I've just recommissioned* after leaving it in a hedge for several months whilst pratting around in a fun** petrol car over the summer.

* inserted £20 of derv and drove on. Still got snails in various orifices.

** not as fun as sexual relations.

1. possibly. Im Aspergic. I dont do jest unless its obvious. and doubting my information is potentially  red rag to a bull.

Remember, Garry McKinnon was Aspergic, and he pissed all over the NSA's security. Dont mess with us Aspergics  :D

2. I never thought diesels were clean, I always thought the claim was utter bollox. You only had to watch a Landrover 90 or a Bus spewing out soot like a bonfire of old tyres to  realise it was rubbish.

I'm Cornish. I learn to take a bit of light-hearted ribbing from folk who aren't born in the land of the pasty.

However, cap doffed r.e the aspergers thing. I've taught a few kids with it, and one of my best mates son has it. I can fully appreciate life is different through the eyes of someone with it. However, the Internet doesn't tend to take prisoners; be ready to tackle naysayers ;)

Back to the diesel thing, it's farcical that manufacturers are being targeted, when we have the likes of China churning out shit into the atmosphere like there's no tomorrow.

What an inefficient approach. I'd have just downloaded VW's from torrentz.eu or something.

ah your not on Virgin Media then, who steadfastly refuses to allow you to access these sites, and remonstrates you like a strict aunt who just caught you with a packet of fags in your school satchel?

I bypass them by using a VPN client . I tunnel thru servers in various countries including Sweden and Germany, and Hong Kong. The snag is you get adverts in cantonese, german or swedish.......

Its all about the editorial, Daily Whatever makes a huge assumption that just because the readings are all to cock it must be because of a software scam. I have no doubt that the evidence is good about the emissions, its the spin on the story without evidence that pisses me off.

It's no surprise-I think they have all done it. When tests make the difference between launching a car successfully or pouring billions down the drain due to an emissions issue that can be got around with a bit of surreptitious software "tweaking", well, you just tweak the electronics.

My Guzzi has an aftermarket box on it to sort out the fuelling, which in standard form is adjusted oddly to meet EU noise regulations. Make the bike so much nicer to ride.

I've mentioned before about the standard of newspaper journalists.

specialist publications (no Mrs, not THOSE ones) are written by enthusiastic experts in their chosen field. Whatever that may be.

Newspaper articles are written by people with no specialist knowledge on any particular subject and are generally hyped up sensationalist shit.

It's tomorrows dog crap wrapper. Ignore it.
