Oddly the overwhelming majority of the chod I owned since living in England is still on the road.

Which proves two points:

- You can buy a Junkman maintained car sight unseen

- I don't need this stupid MoT bollox

What are they like to drive? I looked at them a few months ago but the 0-60 put me off.

Kia Picantos are quite good fun! They aren't fast but I don't recall too many occasions when I suffered unduly. A 1300cc version would have been nice, never understood why they didn't do one. I had the 1100cc which was ok, the 1 litre might have been frustrating. For a practical cheapy which will generally give little trouble I think they fit the bill. And the 5 door body is handy.

I drove one to Cornwall from Essex fully loaded with kids and cases and it was fine. My legs were a bit sore at the end though. The only thing I didn't like was the fuel economy, I struggled to break 35mpg around town but this improved hugely when super unleaded was used - but even 42mpg isn't worth getting excited about.

Interior - cheap materials but nothing broke or fell off. I had the LX which had electric Windows, central locking, air con and an ok CD player. Four wheel disc brakes were bloody good and overkill on a car of that size, probably best brakes on anything I have ever owned.

Never serviced it myself but Car Mechanics did a feature on them and remarked how simple and conventional they are. I would definitely put them on a small car shortlist.

I thought there was an exemption on wiper / washer gear if the windscreen could be fully opened?

Try and find a pre 2001 1.4 VW that hasn't had a fail on 2nd fast idle emissions or a leak of exhaust gasses..... :o

No wonder they started cheating........

THE MIGHTY PRIDE in 2013... someone must've loved it.

Curiously it appears I've put more miles on it since July than the previous owners put on it since 2011.

My old cmax failed in may for :

Reason(s) for failure

Nearside Stop lamp not working (1.2.1b)

Windscreen washer provides insufficient washer liquid (8.2.3)

Seem like trivial fixes, I wonder why they didn't fix that?

It's good to see a lot of my old cars continued to pass their mot's without needing work.

Crikey!

Someone was very busy on my Prelude in 2012. It passed with no advisories two weeks later! High standard of work as still going strong with 78,000 miles and no sign of any previous body repairs/rust. post-5532-0-83651600-1445086138_thumb.png

Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.....Just checked through my stuff and there are, er, a lot more advisories than I usually admit to.   In my defence they do get sorted out, sometimes comprehensively even.   One year my Dampervan (I have to take that to a different station owing to the roof height) picked up an advisory on a scabby jacking point.   Mostly it was flaky paint and the beginnings of something more than Kurust fodder.   The following year it went back with a complete new sill, inner and outer.   "Blimey" said the bloke - "I was only being cautious..."  So was I.....and had already looked at the other side and had it repaired well before it became a concern.  The only recurring one I ignore is the Morris Minor wheel bearing one - it picks up an advisory when the young lad tests it - the old bloke just shakes his head when nipper reads me the advisories.

Thunderbird 2, the XM estate apparently failed in 2009 long fefore I bought it because

Ermm it hasn't got shock absorbers unless that refers to a failed sphere? Either that or the owner had it MOTed at Quickfuk

  •
    • Reason(s) for failure

    • Nearside Front Shock absorber has negligible damping effect (2.7.5)
Offside Front Brake hose excessively deteriorated (3.6.B.4d)

One of my E36's is advised on corrosion on all four corners/near suspension areas. Is it fuck. It's some underseal bubbling around the lifting eyes under the sills (not the jacking points) that are nowhere near any suspension component. The tester was just being a miserable bastard because he couldn't actually fail it on anything.

Love the idea of Mrs Daniels driving a 209'000 mile shitter of a Merc SL. Despite their undoubtedly massive wealth, they are HONOURARY AUTOSHITERS.

Oh boy - Englebert Humpledinks Rolls Royce (1971 Corniche, EH1), is going down hill big style. Up until his Eurovision humiliation in 2012 he kept it in reasonable fettle (the odd failure and advisory), but since 2012...

Nearside Rear Suspension component mounting prescribed area is corroded but not considered excessive (2.4.A.3) Nearside Ball joint dust cover deteriorated, but preventing the ingress of dirt (2.2.C.1c) Offside Rear Brake pipe slightly corroded (3.6.B.2c) Offside Rear Suspension spring mounting prescribed area is corroded but not considered excessive (2.4.A.3) Nearside Front wheel bearing has slight play (2.5.A.3c) Offside Front wheel bearing has slight play (2.5.A.3c) Non obligatory mirror damaged

2015

Advisory notice item(s)

Nearside Track rod end ball joint dust cover deteriorated, but preventing the ingress of dirt (2.2.C.1c) Offside Front Lower Suspension arm ball joint dust cover deteriorated, but preventing the ingress of dirt (2.4.G.2) Nearside Rear Suspension component mounting prescribed area is corroded but not considered excessive (2.4.A.3) Offside Rear Brake pipe slightly corroded (3.6.B.2c) Front Brakes imbalanced requirements only just met. It would appear that the braking system requires adjustment or repair. (3.7.B.5b) Non obligatory mirror damaged
Oil leak

Englebert - for heavens sake it's only Eurovision, put it down to experience. Meanwhile, get your Roller down to Ristes Motor Co, otherwise we may loose a national treasure in a ball of flames
