I don't understand it, I really don't.

 

I have a very good everyday car. It's a late-90's BMW 728i. The wife has a capable car that fits well in here, a Rover 220D bubble currently wearing baked-on masking tape from the half-arsed paintjob I threw it its' direction.

 

We even have a project Mini in the garage to keep me busy.

 

So why in the name of any available deity have I just spent wasted spent £ActualMoney on the worst automotive project ever conceived?

 

Yes, for £ActualMoney, I am now the proud owner of a 2003 MG ZT diesel saloon with 180k, 5 months ticket, er.... and that'#s it. £ActualMoney doesn't get you much these days, in my case it just got me a key. No S/H, no V5, nothing. The engine needs a fuel pressure sensor to run properly, the interior has had an excitable, chewing dog in it, so needs replacing in various bits, and it's dirty. In fact, dirty is the wrong term, it's fucking filthy, it needs stripping out and disinfecting. It's even on a space saver for crying out loud.

 

And yet...

 

It was fun, it had foibles, it was exciting to learn about the different characteristics that set it apart from my previous Rover 75.

 

I blame AutoShite in its' entirety, for making me love crap cars again.

It'll be a cold day in hell before I get rid of Herman, although I did try and swap him for an XM Turbo Petrol last week.

 

Turns out I'm very fickle.

 

Forgot to mention the wife came with me to view it/drop me off.

 

Wouldn't let her have a closer look at it until I paid for it and drove it the 30 miles home...

I tried some of that once, it was a sort of gone off tomato soup colour, tasted horrible, nothing like a leek at all, I might as well have stuck it in the radiator of the car

I haven't forgotten the pictures, honest, I've just been up in Guildford getting my braces fitted. Figured it makes the most sense to do it at 25, I'm already married, so it doesn't matter with the laydeez, I already have a few friends, so there's no real downside!

 

Does bloody hurt though and all I want to do is eat everything that I can't. They've only been on for seven hours and I'm already hoping the next two years whizz by...

 

... Bet the Mini still won't be touched by then.

Fancy aftermarket backbox, and a towbar.

 

Spacesaver wheel, the alloy had a blowout.

 

 

Loads of interior trim bits and engine cover in here, needs some work to tidy up.

 

 

There is a snag with it where it's stalling after being given a rev, P.O reckons fuel pressure sensor. 

 

 

Weird jelly tot lump on the headlight, that'll have to be replaced.

 

 

Errrr....okay.

Missing bonnet catch is a pain but fixable.

 

 

Ravaged by a puppy left in for a brief period of time, and generally unloved.

There's wiring for an aftermarket sub in there, so it'll be ripped out.

 

 

Semi-fancy stereo though, so that's a billy bonus.

 

 

Chewed steering wheel/airbag and the seat is a bit arse. Shows the drop in quality at MG-R after BMW left, my 75 seats with over 260k of arse on them were immaculate.

 

 

It does start and run though.

So, how fucked am I? I feel there's a bit of potential to get it up to scratch nicely and give it a new lease of life. Feel I'll be visiting a scrappy pretty regularly for parts though.
