I can haz Twingo

So, just picked up a 1995 Twingo. Got it for free from a friends mom who bought an Audi...

It's pretty yellow with a blue interior. As it's phase 1 it has all the colourful things inside and really nice seats in some velours style. And it has a huge hole in the roof which may be covered with a waterproof canvas. It really doesn't leak, unbelievable!

Just 100k (km) on the clock.

To do: Replace dented wing, 2 new tyres, a good clean inside and outside, new TÜV.

And then move it on since I have no space and use for it.

I checked the insurance on these last year, it was extortionate being LHD. However, they're cool as fuck.

If it's a proper yellow,at a sensible price, I'd be interested.

My daughter wanted to replace her Clio with one until it was pointed out the insurance was mad.

They are lovely looking though.

Mate's wife wants to have it until she finds a decent Golf 2.

Pics will wait a while, car is garaged a few miles away since TÜV ran out.

These are brilliant little things. Don't think I've ever driven one though. There are still plenty of these things around and about in Brussels.

Years ago when Ma was in Brussels, she was stopped by a Renault promoter at the local shopping centre and offered a test drive in one, but my Fatha took the test drive as Ma wasn't too confident with LHD cars.

A friend in the 2cv club has one as his "normal" car- his other is a three wheeled 2cv kit! He loves it, but says parts fromrenault aren't cheap.

Good. When it fails you'll have to throw it away. I'll get a trailer ready.

(Also you might be interested in the Blaupunkt Colour Edition radios. I bought a spare yellow faceplate for a Lausanne CD player off a seller in Germany so when I track down a compatible unit I can swap over for the yellow SLK).

the original twingo that we sadly never got. is one of, if not the coolest small car of the last 20 years.

only the original ka comes close to it.

if memory serves, the mark one twingo likes to rust too....

i so would though.

lucky bugger.......

Keith's Twingo here is a Phase 2, so doesn't have separate orange indicators, but you can get RHD lights for them. It is just so 'right' it's ridiculous - visibility, layout, efficiency. It's simpler inside than a Mk 1 Clio but as a result, feels a lot better and higher quality. His has a double glass roof with the front panel sliding back rather than the ragtop, and has painted bumpers because it's a posh one.

When it's fixed it'll be going off elsewhere, so I won't be pinching it for amusement! This one in yellow looks so happy and fantastic, though.

I think the phase 2 also has much better crash performance, which presumably makes it heavier, and the phase 2 has a more complex OHC engine - which I was surprised by when stripping it to do the head gasket.

Didn't know Deutsche Post had Twingos.

just seen the pics - thats exactly what i was gonna say

10 years ago we had one for our hire car on honeymoon on Fuerteventura - it was by far the oldest car on the fleet so I picked it for that reason! Even if it had been rubbish I reckon I'd have probably looked back on it fondly due to the circumstances, but I actually really liked it. No frills, in a very 'honest' kind of way, surprisingly fun to chuck into roundabouts, and we even managed a spot of off roading; I suspect much to the annoyance of the tourists who'd paid a fortune to go on a '4x4 Safari' and visit isolated beaches, only to find a Twingo already parked up there!

I need another Twingo in my life. Really, really must have another one.

Marvellous. Normally chalky kermit green.

As for yellow car,my kids play "cheese on wheels" and get to punch each other if they spot a yellow car. I stupidly told them that when i was a kid,it was "pinch, punch, mini". Very annoying when sat at lights and they see a yellow mini. Like being a referee.

My favourite car game is "pack it in,or smacked bum". I like my game best.

Excellent Twingo, but I cant see how any car could be MORE simple than a mk1 Clio!!

Sis has acquired this to loan to family when we visit. post-17481-0-52952200-1442660117_thumb.jpg

After fancying these since first seeing one in Car magazine, it doesn't disappoint.

I just wish they had made EXACTLY the same design in larger sizes.

When the wife and I went over to France for a holiday in 2000, we had one as a hire car from a rental firm in Paris. It was covered in battle scars, so much so they didn't bother filling out a "Vehicle Condition" form when we picked it up as it would have taken too long to fill out.

We took it down to Limoges and as it was on Parisian plates all the locals gave it a really wide berth. Cracking little car though and I'd happily have one

You're all perverts.

lol.

Looks like a tidy one though, stormee. What are the front inner wings & sills like? The driver's side rear inner sill is a bastard to weld because it's right next to the (plastic) fuel tank.

Failed TÜV on exactly the rear inner sill! Have to have it done for a retest, rest is totally fine though.
