Making your own luck

Do you remember last week's Rover raffle?  The one where I bought 5 tickets, and it was my birthday, and I STILL didn't bloody win?  Yeah?

Mr Cavcraft was the winner, but was unaware of the collar'n'tie dress code required to pilot a Connoisseur-level Rover 75.  So a deal was done, and my Rover dream has come true - no thanks to the LUCK FAIRY!

Look at how nice it is!  It's absolutely bloody super!  Collected it this morning from the lovely Mr Purplebargeken, who not only provided a 1st-class bacon sandwich but showed me around his Dolomite and Amazon.

These photos do flatter it - the bodywork and paint is pretty bad in places, and it's going to make some of my work colleagues (who are of the clay-bar and detailing-brush variety), have kittens.  But the interior is near perfect, as is the way it drives, and all the toys still work.

Hmmm...

Oh...

Let's hope everybody in this crowded space continues to get on with their work, shall we?  'Cos that is just bloody terrifying...

Obligatory filling station shot (I didn't forget, I know the rules).  Sorry for not doing a collection thread - it was basically the Mrs driving me to the station ("I hope the weather stays fine when you break down on the M25"), going on a train, then a tube, then another train, then Ken collecting me in this opulent chariot.

Wait til you change a headlight bulb on one ! Still have skin missing on my hand a week later . Still like them tho

They are a truly gorgeous car, it's really sad what reputation they have and it's completely undeserved.

Good to meet you Mark and am pleased that you enjoyed both the Rover and the bacon sandwich. Also the Dolomite and the Amazon.

The Rover drives beautifully but does fall a bit short in the looks department but that didn't bother me as the people round my way drive like blind, moronic twats and I would have been less likely to kill someone for scratching or dinting the Rover.

Did you get the chance to use the cruise control?

I didn't have time to set all the stations to Radio 2 but I was very tempted :)

What was she like with regards to the dino juice? That kind of thing does not bother me so I never took any real notice and my right foot was always a bit heavy. She does sound good when the go pedal is prodded though.

Please keep us posted as to the progress of the Big Rovah :)

I will start a new Rover thread tomorrow when the new Rover in my life turns up. This one is not a project but will try to be sorted in a minor way only.

If anyone has knowledge of a drivers side door card for an L reg 3 door Rover 214Si then PLEASE get in touch.

if it wasn't for bad luck then i would have no luck whatsoever.......

that 75 does look ace though.

and the neptune blue trim looks ace, i have the same in mine!

though i have a diesel anchor up front and no cruise. i had even managed to talk SWMBO into thinking that another rover could have been accommodated into our lives. but you cannot own/drive them all.

Remember to keep those plenum chamber things nice and clean and dry.

I would recommend an oil and filter change as soon as. The message centre kept telling me that an oil service was due. I even get nagged by bloody cars. Pfftt.

I would go as far to say I LOVE THIS CAR now.  They're criminally undervalued for what you get, I wonder if that'll ever change?  I had a SD1 3500 back in 1987, it was brown with a manual box, and utterly worthless at the time - obviously things have changed since then.  Will that ever happen to the 75?  Or will they just became donors for the V8 cars?

So far it's showing 28mpg, which is fine as I'll still do most of my commuting on motorbikes, but this'll be a lovely place to be when it's too cold for 2 wheels.

I'm going out in it now, to admire the instruments...which somebody within my household described as 'backlit bowls of hot orange piss'

The look of them, or the taste?!

Lovely!! It's correctly engined too, none of that uncouth V8, 4 pot or even worse filthy diseasel.

I think "Steampunk space capsule" whenever I see a Rover 75 interior.

Enjoy.

If your colleagues are likely to be so bothered by its appearance, tell them to clean it for you (foc). I do like the interior.

That is what the interior of a gentleman's motor car should look like. I don't think my wife would ever speak to me again if I bought one though.

Ha! They are lovely aren't they? I love going out in mine, I think I have found the car for me.

Pre-facelift 2.5 V6 Auto FTW.

Does yours have black or colour coded sills? Does the vin plate state 'Rover Group' or 'MG Rover' ?

Posted

Bullet badges, age and back end suggest Cowley built so should have a Rover Group VIN plate, but the bottom of the bumpers and the sills looks colour coded which none of the Cowley cars had. I suppose someone could have painted them somewhere along the line.

Edit: seems the line was transferred in 2000 so might have been a very early Longbridge built MGR era car.

Mine has body colour sills, not checked the vin plate.  It must have been built late 2000, so I guess it'll be a Longbridge car.  Let's keep that a secret between us, shall we?  If the natives of Surrey discover I've been driving a car from THE NORTH through their sacred county they'll torch it.

Yep, I would say very early Longbridge Pre Project drive i.e. Bullets, boot badge, small Rover badge on the back doors etc etc..but colour coded sills.

That you know this shit is worrying. I'd send the community mental health team around, but you know the NHS, all too busy fucking up sane peoples lives to have time for a nutter like you.
