I've got some 'My Other Car is a Hybrid' stickers.

I have "my other car is a 2cv 2" stickers. When did this all start? Was it the 1980s? With my other car is a Porsche.

Did ponder having "My other car is also a Porsche" in the 924S.

There was one of these at the Retro show in Margate today, same colour and everything. Looked pretty mint apart from a dent in one of the back doors, and an absolute fuckload of condensation in the windscreen. Guess it had a bit of a leak!

Just got my car back from the painters. Bloody hell, what a crackin' job! All the dents gone completely, dodgy paint repair on the passenger side doors vanished, mirrors like new and the paint finish and match are perfect. They have done a fantastic job and in just three days, When they delivered it back they even polished it again as they'd washed it before leaving the shop and it hadn't dried perfectly enough for them.
They were telling me that Rick had made four wheelarches for a Spirit and fitted them in four days. Made them!
They are only young (late twenties/early thirties) but time served guys that are seriously keen on doing the job 'right'.

I'll post before and after pictures as soon as they send them. Oh, and they found RUST! Only a little bit at the bottom of the passenger side wing and eradicated and gone but they have the pictures to prove it

Abridged version from the news 24 thread to keep it all in one place.

I'd have thought half Escort, half Astra :?:

Now that needs an old enamel AA badge on the badge bar.

And possibly one from some old-boys motoring club...

Today's the day it goes back to Specialist cars. I am not looking forward to it. I don't like confrontations and disagreements at all. But, needs must....

Fixed that.

No, got to be an AA badge as I am with them. They may refuse to help when I break down if I put an RAC badge on. As breakdowns are likely to be frequent and traumatic, I need all the help I can get!

Amen to that. Hope it went ok....

She's back with them now. Chap was fine with me, no disagreement or confrontation, all very amicable.

Good.

However, he is not keen on a hugely expensive repair and suggested that if it was, money back, but I had to decline that option. I've paid out on her paintwork and more to the point, I like the bloody car! First time I've driven her in a week and it is just such a pleasant place to be, so comfortable and quiet and she goes like fuck when given even the slightest prod of the accelerator!  It really is alarmingly rapid - great!

Oh, and the dogs like it too. They both sit there with heads out of the window like Lord and Lady muck! :)

I even suggested we went halves on the new engine that 'Flying Spares' have for sale... he wasn't keen on that idea... surprisingly! :)  I really can't see that there is much wrong with it as it sounds perfect and goes so well.

he was very nice to be honest and I do believe that he had no idea that she was going to let us all down in such a manner, especially as so much money has been spent on her recently.

Now just got to wait for the outcome and then repair.

Glad photos have been taken, that was going to be something that I was going to suggest. That is a truly beautiful car.

Good luck with the repairs.

Hope it goes well.

I appreciate that trader does not want to get his fingers burnt - however when you deal in old Bentlleys there is no such thing as an inexpensive repair.

Actually bloody fair of him to offer you the money back.

Still, what a splendid looking repair.

Posted

Yes money back was a good offer, but not for me this time.

The 'Autoshite' sticker was noticed, commented on and much laughter and hilarity ensued when they realised they HAD read it correctly! :)

Also, found that when you put the car in gear, it takes its own handbrake off - how jolly clever of it! :)

May the Gods of credit smile upon you!

😄

My Mercury also releases the handbrake when put in gear, but isn't anything like a Bentley.

Just to underline this thread. The Bentley has gone back to its previous residence. It is kaput!

Paul at Specialist Cars South West was brilliant, friendly and efficient and a true gentleman. I have COMPLETELY changed my opinion of him. Money is back in my bank account including for the paintwork, the MOT I had done and a couple of other bits.

There was no way they could have known about this fault, but I bet the previous owner bloody did! I bet it got 'cooked' on the track that day, I should have heeded that warning....

No to decide whether to carry on looking or give it up as a bad job....

Posted

Sad to see it go but what a professional way to deal with it.

Keep looking for the replacement as everything else will not measure up now!

Cant fault that resolution, hadnt fully clicked that he took it back, sorry! Least you have had a drive of one, and have a tale to tell.

Whats next then? 6l phaeton with a dicky clutch?

Posted

Gutted for you, really. I am guessing there was much more to it than mere valve seals, then? Give it another shot. Experience earned, moderately low cost to you, now you have a benchmark and a critical eye.

Posted

That is a shame but very well done for the dealer refunding like that. Keep up the search now you have had one you know which model to have.

Glad you had a satisfactory outcome and that you were dealing with an honourable company, not always the case, even when it comes to supposedly reputable specialists*....

Now,get yourself on eBay and buy a sub £4000 one, you're an experienced Bentley expert WCPGW?
