Yes Nibblet...Legend has it Pug were pissed off by how much they made it look like an Alfa!

The 164 pre-dates the 605 by a few years.

I love Ronin, the bit where they spraying 5.56 around Marseille from the back seat of a W115.

That's a very sharp looking car, too. I have never been attracted to Pugs but that has set a little bit of man-maths around what pass's for my mind

I am personally responsible for the purchase of at least half a dozen 605's in 92/93, a lot of middle managers would ask my advice when choosing their company cars and I loved the fleet demos we had on long term loan.

They were so much more refined than the Rover 800,Granada, Carlton even Citroen XMs. More senior managers, predictably, would take a fully loaded V6 SVE home for the weekend , come in on Monday raving about how it drove, then ordered a 200e or 520i with wind up windows and no radio- the writing was on the wall....

How is that much car so cheap?  How?

Because GB :(

That does indeed appear to be a splendid purchase and nobody seems to have mentioned dodgy* French giffermatic or coins wedged in anywhere (yet).

Wow, well bought, that's an awful lot of car for the money.  Looks great, deffo would.

Holy shitballs!  That's an ace purchase!  Seems to be a fair bit of French vehicle action on here atm - will be a good look next time we can all get together...

Nice motor.

However, I fear a game of "french autobox roulette"beckons.

If it's lasted this long I'm sure it's fine. The (same?) auto gearboxes in XMs seem reasonably long-lived.

There seems to be a lot of love for this thing! Latter day Tagora?

It's given a bit of err...merde which resulted in a late night work shop session. It has been fixed (for now) though :)

The big sexy tart really needs a proper wanky blog thread...

Very nice. I have also been past your house twice this week

I thought the reg looked familiar. My dad used to own a Cavalier that was M919 FBJ. That originally hailed from Bury St Edmunds.

Looks like it went through "Hold 'em Cars" in Benfleet as a used car at some stage, judging by the rear plate.

Lovely. Such a shame that Peugeot used photocopier styling techniques at the time (take a 405, put it on the copier and press the enlarge button). A technique that has worked so well for Audi in recent years that tw@ts all over the UK are falling over themselves to buy one

Ha! No way! Is the Chateau Shite that much of a Fenland landmark? :-D

Yup, it has a Hold 'em Cars plate! Sounds as dogey as fuck...

Start the raffle!!!

Good idea. £350÷49 that will be £18 per ticket then.

Nice buy hope it serves you well.

This one is going nowhere ;)

However, my drive home from work was an annoying one:

605: Would you like sport mode?

Me: No thanks.

605: Sport mode is quite good.

Me: Yeah, I've tried it, I don't like it.

605: Yes you do.

Me: No I don't.

605. Yes you do.

Me: No I sodding don't.

605: Well it's on.

Me: Turn it off.

605: No.

Me: Seriously, turn that off please.

605: No.

Me: Err, I own you, I tell you what to do, I'm in control, not you. We need to work this out. Now turn it off.

605: FUCK YOU I WANT SPORT MODE.

You get the idea...

There isn't a huge difference between sport* and economy modes on my Volvo, it just holds the gears for a bit longer if you're thrashing it.

I rate that Japanese automatic gearbox in a Swedish car built in Belgium with a German engine.

There is in this :( The ride is a lot harder and it won't change into top gear until about 70!

I didn't realise these had electronic dampers, sports mode is missing the point of a 605 I think. Hope it's an easy fix.

Electric everything really. When it's not in Sport it's ace! I'm lucky to know some pretty clever people who may be able to help...

1. Whoever that is laughing at the coolant looks like a young me

2. I didn't even know what a 605 was until a couple of years ago, but I have wanted one ever since

3. The 605/XM pairing is like something out of my darkest fantasies

4. Would you like to swap lives?

Not sure where else to put this, but I'm seriously considering sacking this off already. Nothing wrong with it which a weekend (or a day if you're good) won't sort out, but I'm wanting to simplify my life and getting rid of old junk seems like a good place to start.

This will probably end up as another drive way folly...It was probably a daft idea to buy it.

When and if it goes up for sale it will be serviced and come with a new wing mirror in green, and priced accordingly so I break even.

XOG may also be for the high jump as well, if I can convince my other half to let me sell it.

Well that would make a change. The green Rover was like trying to sell sandbags to camels.

Barrett, it's Partridge himself.

Spud, are you local then?

Ish I suppose, I'm in and out of the tractor dealers up the road quite a bit.
