BL day reportage

Yesterday me and a couple of mates went along to the British Leyland at Meadow Fields in Peterborough, our trusted steed for the day was Cortinaboy's beautiful Granada 2.0 L, Is there a more ideal car to arrive at a BL show in?.

The drive up was very smooth, in a different league to my Cortina. I really want one now.

We past a couple of cars on the way up, both the Dolly and Metropolitan turned up at the show, the Mk2 Transit we never saw again.

This Yugo was like new, 14000 miles. KGF was trying to selling it there, it seemed strange not having a white wall behind it.

After that we took a wander around the excellent autojumble, always a highlight for me where i found a 1976 AA book with a Mk3 Cortina on the front, a Vanguards Sapphire GLSi and this Lada 1200 AM Radio i spoke of yesterday.

This Allegro 1500 Super was the pure essence of Autoshite, having spent a long while under a tree it was still complete with the moss and numerous spider webs side.

The exhaust broke on the way to the show.

It was at this point an Ital stopped me in my tracks. The restoration on it was truly outstanding, apparently it was done as a tribute to a deceased family member.

I've totally forgot the conversion details on this burry Marina but it was basically a 1.8 Zetec top end on a Marina bottom end IIRC with bike carbs.

Top reporting!

I used to have a 1982 Granada, I think it was a bit facelifted on the outside but the interior looks very familiar.  The first car I owned where I didn't have to put the seat all the way back on its runners - very roomy!

Nice to see so many Montegos about, I don't remember the last time I saw one on the road.  The kind of car where I bet there's thousands on that scrappage scheme runway.

Looks a really good show! I went to Helmingham Hall yesterday, loads of shiney classics worth £££££££££££ on show. A crusty green Allegro was the star of the show IMHO.

Next year I must drive straight past and go to the BL day....

That's a serious amount of Rover 8 Fastbacks. Is that the entire population of them now?

It's a really good show IMHO, I normally go to Helmingham hall but it's got very expensive to display, let alone just visit so I've been put of it.

That beige Ital has made me happy.  As has the 375,000-mile Perkins Prima - I wonder how many VAG TDI 170s will reach that sort of mileage?

Great reporting Trig and way better with accompanying words. I know you may not be out for laughs but your reports always make me chuckle; I can just imagine you being chased round a field by a pigeon whilst you're busy not understanding Scottish folk.

This thread may well leave the first page within a day but know that there's still a few of us who really appreciate them.

Posted

I appreciate that Jon. :) It's a shame threads like these aren't the norm any more.

Posted

It's the fault of the system, really (not that it wrong). You post up loads of great pictures and people look at them, then have had their fill. Start a list thread along the likes of 'What's your favourite......' and it keeps getting bumped up with comments.

Anyway, this is a sort of half-arsed bump as I noticed I'd just become the latest culprit of dragging this down the page by putting a crap joke on the grin thread!

Well done that man.....Entertaining and perv-worthy at the same time. Pure class rocking up at a BL day in a Mk2 Grandad and its good to see so many nicely preserved cars.

Great reporting on some great cars as ever.

I have no idea what that weird thing at the end is, but what I can tell you is that the lights and mirrors are off a Bini.

Good stuff, I must get along. Loved the pic of an early(?) P5 with a Stirling caravan, it could have been from the sixties. I miss British cars on our roads.

Great post , nice to see so many Maxis, Allegros and Itals along with the other Autoshite heroes  out in their droves

Brilliant stuff Trig, thanks for sharing.

The G-HOX White 827 Fastback is owned by some chap who does a lot of car shows always selling BL/Rover memorabilia. Good to see the F163 COG Beige 820e about still, it did the rounds on eBay a couple of years ago, also, not very interestingly it has a similar plate to my old 827Si (F852 COG)

The Red 820 Fastback (?-RRW) looks familar, it might have belonged to someone I bought some stuff off once in Worcester before I went to France, though it might not be the same one.

Love the pigeon I notice it has a ring on its leg so obviously a racing bird thats lost it's way, maybe you looked a little bit like its owner, they are quite friendly to humans and can become fairly tame.

Lovely stuff, I don't think I could take looking at so much BLARG porn in one place.

Healy Enigma kit car. The story was that in the fagend of the Phoenix era the designer had meetings at Longbridge as MGR were considering productionising it based on the SV, but didn't because bankruptcy. Flash forward 10 years and they now do them as an MX-5 (MK1, MK2 or MK3) based kit car.

Fantastic pictures and looks like a smashing event. I still have a soft spot for Montegos, an elderly family member was a proper AR stalwart and went through a series of Montegos and Maestros, from blingy VP models in the 80s to the pseudo-sports runout ones in the 90s.

Anyway, good to see a decent thread on here. Have a free bump so more people can enjoy it.
