Little Green Dolly - £500

Early 1300's got vinyl, later cars got bri-nylon.

There was a mixture of vinyl and bri-urrgghh available throughout the range apart from the 1300FWD which had purely vinyl and the Sprint (and possibly the 1850HL which were purely bri-urrgghh).

The 1500TC was vinyl seated but you could upgrade to that other stuff. Early 1300 and 1500 flat dash models were vinyl but the later ones had that material as standard.

The problem with non-vinyl was that the colour faded, especially black to a grey and almost blue'ish tint. You could probably dye them but not sure how successful that would be.

The material on the top of the seat backs became very fragile when exposed to sunlight over the years and would literally disintegrate and you cannot get the cloth anymore. Sometimes you might get a set of seat covers on eBay and the like but they are getting rarer.

I cannot stand the feel of bri-nylon and have always changed my seats for vinyl ones. The seats are interchangeable between the models as there are two sets of mounting holes in the floor. The only bit that might not be is the lower seat from a 1300FWD as there was no transmission tunnel to speak of.

Some things are swappable throughout the range - you can retro fit a Triumph clock into the car just by swapping the small dash section, rear bumper ends are not inter-changeable between the Toledo or the Dolomite as the side mounting points are located differently to account for the short tail. Early cars had the round dome light in the centre of the roof, later models had an elongated light above the B pillar. Sun visors were initially all white but then had black backing but will just swap over easily. You can swap a curved dash for the flat plank one but it is a ball ache.

Front and rear ARB's are a straight fit to the base models as the mounting points are already there. You can convert the rectangular headlight cars to the quad set up but the inner panels need changing. You can used Dolomite/TC/1500FWD and Toledo front wings without adaptation as well.

I could go on but won't. Aren't you glad.

There is what looks to be a very viable Toledo for sale on this 'ere forum for a few hundred quid.

I always preferred the recto lights to the four-shot.

The rectangular lights are meant to give a better spread of light but I do like the look of the quad lights :)

I'm sure I've posted this before but there is a Dolly in my local scrappers should you require parts. PM me if you do need anything, I'm off down there tomorrow morning.

Are you getting a train to El Porto then walking to the garage? It's a right mish.

Eeeewwwwww, just the word bri-nylon makes me shudder.

How about 'crimplene'?

^^ Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.

Add nylon to the cringe list too.

Back to my beloved vinyl. I have managed to obtain a decent set of brown seats from a breaker in Great Yarmouth :)

Sadly the door cards had gone but I can always get some vinyl dye.

Digits crossed that there will be a Dolomite delivery at some point on Thursday.

Pah!  Bri-Nylon is the fabric of RULIN'.  OK, goes a bit saggy, just like that tart's purple underwear in "Get Carter" (the real one, not the shite remake), but that's just a bonus.

PORN:-

Vinyl's easier to clean stains off from fun with tart and her purple undies.

Now secured some upgraded door cards and maybe wood door caps. Lets not worry about the rusty underneath for a while. Lets just make it look prettier.

Much nicer bumper end caps and door trim now here :)

Works for me!

Took the train to Overpool and was picked up by Jim there

You've collected it now?

Nice. Are these cars (not the whole Triumph TR bit) very 'scene'? I like the way they appear "Garage door UP - Key IN - Vrooooom!!" (fcuk U Aldi).

Laverrleyy ;)

Not sure about 'scene' for the little ones. You're always going to get the really ultra clean/eat yer dinner of it kind of car and the odd rat/scruff like anything but 99.999999% of the Dolly/Tolly/FWD stuff I've been involved with gets driven and enjoyed without too much fuckwittery. No real pineapples or roof racks identified  :-D

FAO: small Triumph owners on here. Have just ordered another set of LED bulbs for the front sidelights. I had them fitted to my prev 1500FWD and they are pretty good. A much whiter/brighter light than the original which is a bit yellow/dull.

Might be worth considering for just a few quid: 181676430113

Sorry Ken, missed this thread.

I love the pov spec dollys as my dad had a red W reg 1300 in the mid 1980s.

Is it going to the barn or the lock up in tottenharm?

The lock up mate.

The basic spec Dollies are quite nice in their own way. The 1300 is a cracking engine, mechanically simple which enables a ham fisted wombat like me to fix 'em. That simplicity is their charm.

The seats I have obtained are actually from a 1500TC. Just confirms the interchangeability.

Wooden door caps should be here in a few days.

Annoyingly the Dollies made after 1976 used slightly thinner gauge steel and were not quite as rust resistant as the earlier ones.

All of the Triumph I owned started on the first turn of the key. All really rather reassuring. The Toledo is a perfect example. I started it a couple of week ago after it was stood foir about 4 months. Key in, choke out, vroooom.

Ok, so the petrol started leaking out of one carb but that only took 5 mins to sort :)

The fun of stuck needle floats.

At least you don't need to plug it in and have a computer tell you whats wrong.

Proceed to tap side of SU carb gently with a small hammer - Fixed and away you go.

Let me just sum up the items that I have obtained for the Dolomite thus far:

Brown vinyl seats

HL door cards

Wood capping for said door cards

LED bulbs for the sidelights

New indicator bulbs for the sidelights

New screws for the sidelights

New foam seals for the sidelights

Rear bumper end caps

None of the above items have anything to do with rust fixing whatsoever. Fantastic.

I am consistent in this approach.
