The original name for Ford's Escort Mk 5 was Siesta. The marketing department felt it showed where it fitted, mid-size, in the model line-up and kept the Spanish theme of other models. Unfortunately they dozed off after lunch and forgot the idea.

Apple's forthcoming electric self-driving car will not be fitted with seatbelts, as everyone knows Apple devices don't* crash.

(SD1 had the) Same engines as spitfires too then

The SD1 had a 1298 Triumph OHV with twin SU's? More likely to have been fitted with a Massey Furgusson Tractor engine.

Carrying a bucket full of used oil (from a 2008 Focus TDCi) and accidentally treading on the removed (oily) under tray will not result in immediate slippage followed by doing a 170 degrees 'split', and no oil will definitely not be spilt from the bucket (especially not on ones person)

Undertrays are a useful and sensible addition to any vehicle.

vulgalour is actually the trade name of a seat material being developed for the princess- it was suposed to be a more plush version of velour but the propensity of man made fabrics for clothing in the 70's and the resulting static made a very flamable combination if the occupants moved in their seats

The Robyn Hitchcock song "Brenda's Iron Sledge" was written about Her Madge's fondness not for Land Rovers, but roof-chopped customised 1940s Mercurys and Buicks - sufficiently well known that Buick until 2008 had a "By Appointment To" crest on the B-pillar.

Unusually, "The Cars She Used to Drive" was not about cars at all, but the continued emotional rollercoaster of seeing his ex gf's former lovers around because he lived somewhere very Local.

Not about cars as such, but motoring - you may have noticed that Unwelcome Break bathrooms have been trimmed in stainless steel. This is not an anti-graffiti measure, nor is it for hygiene. Extensive research showed that stalls were occupied for 100-350% longer after the invention of the smartphone and widespread high-speed data. They are a faraday cage.

As a consequence, hiding in the loo at Newport Pagnell is the safest place to be in a lightning storm.

But, also the smelliest. Burning electrical death or "longer than you can hold your breath" in a stall recently vacated by a Lithuanian trucker with a lactose intolerance and two thermoses of strong milky coffee.

All available front window glass on off-licence/deli/milk-bar premises must be covered with ads for phone cards, by law.

Harsh penalties are imposed on owners for showing any bare glass.

Rolls Royce were originally known as Sedge and Grubb but were forced to change their name due to the Queens ongoing one up man ship with her best friend Hitler, he had the SS so Queenie had a RR to prove she got there first.

It is also little known that Volkswagon doesn't mean people's car but in fact means ugly truck and was the insult used by Hitler to the queen after they fell out when he refused to give her Leningrad. Everyone who buys a VW is a republican and sticking two fingers up to the monarchy which is why they are banned from the Mall in London.

Yellow card - the second part is true. However, "Vegetable Friend" is about adjusting the throttle cutaway on an Amal Concentric carburettor whilst off your tits on mushrooms.

Bullllllllshit !

Whilst that is baws, they did do an SD1 special edition with 7 Plenums called the Plenum Suite.

Unfortunately House of Fraser had a sofa range using the same name and all had to be recalled, eventually being converted into standard Twin Plenum cars.

KwakFuck quoted a geezer a complete exhaust on an OLD renault-fixed price promise $hite- Y.O.P. monkey attempted to unbolt the front downpipe (which was bolted to a boss on the tin sump) and promptly ripped a cake tin lid sized hole in sump.

Took some finding a replacement sump.....

The Rick Astley song"Never gonna give you up" is actually about the time Rick's Lancia Beta failed it's MOT on structural corrosion, and the emotions felt as he decided to get it fixed rather than bridge it.

And sticking on the song 'facts' the Monks song 'Nice legs shame about her face' was in fact written about the MG Maestro Turbo - great engine not much of a looker according to Monks frontman John Ford..
