Crashed my classic, and the repairer can't be arsed, apparently.

Prepare for a load of waffling unhappiness from the fuckwits.

Insurance companies, they love you when you take out a policy but god help you otherwise if you don't want to follow their recommended route.

Arsewipes.

This colour does appear on the Princess parts microfiche but never appeared on showroom colour charts for the Princess and this is believed to be the only surviving Snapdragon yellow Princess left from that production run.

Given this fact, there has to be something that can be brought to bear with the insurance company, surely?

I know you have gone ahead and are fixing it yourself, can you invoice them the cost of the parts & labour? Or am I being hopelessly naive?

Glad to see you're persevering with this, many would be fed up with the insurers by now and have lost interest in the car leaving it to die a slow rusty death.

Keep the faith this will be a great car again.

Have you met [most] insurance companies..?

Seriously though, that would be the moral stance but I can't see them ever applying 'morals'.. :S

I don't get the fact that a complete rusty wreck with major structural repairs can be totally restored, put in for an MoT and then used without any interference from the DVLA or associated organisations. Yet, get a dent in the front that needs repairing and the insurers want an MoT, an engineers report, a VIC check, a new MoT and your log book, which makes it all seem even more like a total load of old bollocks.

Anyway, welding will be done tomorrow.

I did get an 'engineers inspection' for an insurance company on a write off a few years back.  Was a company in Chandlers Ford, cost about £150.  Bit of a farce - he looked at the door gaps and some photos I had, didn't actually look underneath of anything.  I am just saying this in case it is any use.

Do the repairs slowly until the VIC becomes dead ;)

/\ What he said! Use a solicitor of the litigation variety. You may have to pay a bit up front but in the end you will get it all back.

Had to involve insurance as I hit another car.

Welding done today. Looks like a Wedge again now.

Paint next.

Great progress. Was there much fettling to get the panels to line up properly?

Posted

The front lower panel is probably a pattern one as it lined up beautifully in some places but was miles out in others. There's no doubt the front wing is a genuine part which made it a bit easier. Getting the headlight panels in the right place could have been awkward had we not had another Princess to use for reference.

This is exactly why we are all here :)

That looks a brilliant repair and at least you now know it's going to be done properly and will be back up to as good as new again now in no time rather than let some insurance approved half arsed body shop just patch it up and push it out the door after waiting for about 6 months.

I really hope you get the money back out of the insurance company for this repair I'm sure modern full comp insurance is designed so that you can't have a claim it does make you wonder what's the real difference at times to the old Fire and Theft policy's

The insurer/broker people have been notified of its sufficient historical significance* to be made into a collectable model?
