How's your car coping with the weather?

My Volvo 340 is not operating any differently.

Oh, actually, I don't need to use the choke as much.

Good to have an engine behind you - no heat sink - and roof which comes off in 2 secs. K-series is loving the heat. And the Chinese front tyres feel so grippy, brilliant - it's like having Yokos on. Almost.

The 1300 get's up to temperature quicker and runs nicer in the mornings, if it was winter I doubt I'd be able to get it started at all in the state that it's in... It also features a vinyl interior, my commute is a slow and sweaty one.

The 1850 is currently dead but I know for a fact it'd overheat, it could barely handle an ambient temperature 10C let alone 25C...

Fine. Roof down at night is still awesome.

Edit: that'd weird, flipped photo. I was full of cider so I promise you I wasn't driving at the time!

Xsara aircon needs a regas and did get a bit warm being a dark interior. Vectra has ice cold air con and has been really nice in this weather. Never had a car with air con but I will seriously consider the next car has it.

Gearstick and steering wheel so hot that I have to wear oven gloves whilst driving, engine temp slighty higher than usual but otherwise all good!

Posted

No temp gauge makes me fret...

Air con means all windows up and me and doggies lovely and cool :)

It did seem to take longer than usual to start blowing ice cold though....

Drove the M reg Discovery that I borrowed off my dad today, had all the windows down and was bemoaning the fact I wasn't in my Icy Cool Bavarian Fridge. Dropped it off at my brothers tonight and he pointed out the A/C actually works- I didn't bother to try it, the Old Man's owned it for about 8 years and has never had it charged, I just assumed It didn't work. Solihull quality surprises me again.( but in a positive way)

No problems at all

All Vauxhall's are the BEST so there.

Fine, I think... there's no temp gauge to watch like a hawk. Normally I'd be turning off the A/C in traffic and putting the blowers on to aid with cooling with driving things known for cooking but I'm going for ignorance is bliss.

but the a/c runs the engine fan so it will shirley stay cooler with it still on?!

my spaceship runs 72/80 ish with a/c 92 with it off

there is a downside to having a metel billet gearknob tho......

The aircon actually works in my V70, but I don't bother with it.

I have all the windows and sunroof open.

Lovely.

It's nice to see people getting the right idea when it comes to these.....things.

The zx is fine tbh. Although ive noticed that when its toasty hot, im in sat at lights etc, I can see a very very thin whisp of smoke/steam wafting off the bonnet. Only ever so slight. Ive had the bonnet up after a good run home amd can see nothing amiss so filing that under 'keep an eye on' for now.

The meriva on the other hand is having a stop off here after our first appoimtment to see if we are having a boy or a girl...

To hopefully have some 'get cold ya bastard' injected into the air con, or not charge me for trying if its broken!

^^ this place isn't what it used.........ect

Tbh anything with a temperature into double digits is considered a "heatwave" in Shetland and will have me doing my post round in shorts & polo shirt so yesterday topping out at 15 felt like we were in the Sahara. Wasn't warm enough to have the a/c on

I popped the sunroof out the Kia which is still just doing it's thing. Still need to tighten the aux belt again though as it's a bit squealy.

Octavia: I turn the climate control up from 19.5 to 21 so it dosen't blast too cold. I turn it back down after the first 10 mins.

Puma: Missing the Pride's targa top and the leaf in fan blower makes a really irritating sound.

You burnt youself on the gearknob in the puma yet?

Not yet but picking up new pads and disks tonight so once they are changed then I will have more opportunity to enjoy the the big shiny metal knob.

Got to admit, that I'm more worried about it as a winter hassle.

Its bastard freezing in the winter! Makes short sharp changes more fun though!

It's the same in the Sport Ka I had, I found these were perfect for it in winter

As for fdb, the F is coping well. Temp gauge sits resolutely where it ought to, although my oil leak has increased slightly. I’m not certain that’s down to the weather though.

I did notice something yesterday while stuck in traffic though. Why is it that, when the lights go to red, the balding bloke in the open-top car is always out in the open, while the bloke in the tin-top with a/c is under the shade of a tree? Is there some sort of rule here at play that I’m not aware of?

I'm driving 30 miles home in the cortina tonight, it's only moved 200 yrds in the last 2 years.

It's still got a 92° thermostat in from winter 2012, and the water pump leaks...........

The Reliant is a complete dream* Not at all hot inside, with the heater on. I wish i had taken the time to fix the window winders..................

Sat in the M25 carnage for nearly an hour last night on the way home:

Couldn't decide if I was sweating more from the heat or from sitting there staring at this waiting for it to go pop - but luckily it didn't:

And amazingly, it hadn't lost a drop of water when I checked it this morning!

what motor is in it, Jonny? Did I dream it or is there school of thought that says you can run a pre-Xflow without a cooling fan?
