Hasn't had time to have a look at the car but knows it needs some welding and has got time to deliver it up to 100 miles. I absolutely HEART these cars, but I'd give this one a swerve.

How about A E36 Compact as it kind of looks like a coupe and in 1.8 ti trim is quite sporty with enough toys.. It also has the older type z axle so you can become a drift king.post-9282-0-46793300-1430242192_thumb.jpgpost-9282-0-84314000-1430242258_thumb.jpg

The bottom picture upside down is my old one which I owned for all of a day before my father snapped it up..

I've always been tempted by the Compacts myself - given that I thought the 1-series was 'like a 21st century Chevette', then surely the compact is basically a Chevette, but a bit newer. Particularly like that special edition with a big ragtop. Never quite tempted enough to actually buy one though.

The panels look pretty straight tbh, Billy. The seller is clearly a SHOUTY MONG, and I try to avoid those where possible, but if I was in the market for an early 8v Cav I'd consider paying that one a visit.

what about a calibra?

those seem to be around the £500 mark, and ok, its a cavalier in drag, but its a nice looking motor with 4 seats?

talking of big cooooops,

how about an 820 turbo?

plenty of room inside, the bestest seats i've ever sat in and a t16 motor up front?

doubt that you'll find a nice one for £500 though,as i don't think even lord S would describe his as nice, but there are other proper nice ones out there.

Yarp. I reckon an 820 turbo turned up to LOLboost would be a most droll way of dispatching Audi TDis.

Problem is you're going to be lucky to get a decent car of any sort for £500, let alone one that meets your requirements. Go up to a grand and that choice increases vastly

the 820 we had was in completely standard trim and it went like something possessed

deffo would have another one.

and also agree about your budget, if you could go up then your choice increases greatly, plus it will be a better car and not some end of life shit heap

Personally, £200 on a shitter with a couple of months mot + 75bhp nitrous kit:)

Supercharger in a bottle ftw

Do you think a long tube from the air intake to the dashboard with a tin of easy start attached would work? Just give the nozzle a press when you need more power

I had that thought having looked at some nice SEwhatevers. Good Calibras are stiff money now. Shit Calibras are thinning out faster than Sting's hairline in the late '80s.

Also for 'decent car for £500', the Calibra's dumpy Swedish half-sister is your thing. Sometimes she'll even be topless for that money, but don't expect to be blown - at least, not without lube in the wrong places and a hefty bill somewhere down the line.

and from the pictures it looks pretty good to

I love this kid. He's defo staying.

I'd agree, for £500 you are going to be looking at fairly ropey stuff, although I would have though Cougars are unfashionable enough to give you have a chance of finding something half decent. Possibly E36 coupes, almost most at this level will be chavved-up wrecks. Also you might be lucky and score a half decent Calibra.

On the Rover theme, I'll chuck in the R8 216/220 Tomcat. 216 more likely to be giffer owned and unmolested, but I'm not really up to speed on how sought after, or indeed how easy these are to find, nowadays. Certainly a 200 R8 is one of the lowest cost routes into owning an open top car.

And MGFs.

You don't buy an MGF. You get it in kit form from motor factors, Rimmers and eBay, and then when you're done you realise you could have bought a £1500 car instead.

for 500 sheets you could get two of them, which solves your "wife and two kids" issues.

but do take this into account

What about this ,as found by cort16 yesterday on the eBay threadpost-17414-0-80137400-1430296352_thumb.jpg

£450, although it's in Scotland so if you bought a certain £101.90 440 then drive it up there the vendor would definitely** do a swap.

+1 - Perfect for what you need. Has got (I think) the MR2 engine in these with the VTECKIKEDINYOE above 5k rpm. I had one and it was fab!

EDIT - on a side note, I find myself in the very same predicament. I'm fed up with the Astra and want something a bit more sporty with room for t'kid too.
