Cheers mate.

More intel from a friend who lives further down the road: the guy has form for this having done a prison sentence last year for crashing while pissed/disqualified and leaving the scene.

Pretty sure you used to be able to claim from the MIB or something of a similar name for uninsured drivers damaging your car?

I'm not sure why the Men in Black would be getting involved, unless the pisshead in question was from another planet?

Sounds like a pillar of the community.  Although I assume he did stick around this time?

He was clearly trying to drive away but the car was too damaged and loads of people came out of their houses so he did stay.

Gutted @Dave_Q. Actually looks a really nice area where you live as well but it only takes one cunt I suppose 🙄🙄🙄.

I remember years ago an old boy wrecked about 5 cars driving up from Mumbles towards Newton in his Jag then wrapped it up coming into his estate.

He disappeared for a day or two then surrendered his licence in the police station in Mumbles claiming he thought he was having a heart attack and just wanted to get home... But got disorientated and "lost" for a few days 🙄🙄🙄.... CURRRSSSEEEE you did. He was a very well known businessman.

This was early 90's so not much in the way of CCTV etc..... However he was seen staggering out of the rugby club into his car by several witnesses but the police of course said there was "insufficient evidence" and "everyone been paid out and nobody got hurt" which when you saw the destruction was incredible really, especially as most of the cats he hit were on the opposite side of the road 😬😬😬.

Probably only saved as it was an international day and most people were out on the piss in the afternoon already.

About 20 years ago we had a drunk and I believe high driver land his Vectra (early registration madness as I think it was an green N-reg hatch) on top of our shed. Lost control on the straight bit of road that our house ran alongside, managed to hit the railings at the end of the path that ran along the back of our garden, hit the 40mph "Thank you for driving carefully" sign that used to sit there, that somehow lifted the back end up and left it perching atop our fence/the corner of the shed. He ran off on what was later confirmed to be a broken ankle, so that should give an idea as to his state. Apparently he left £400 in the glovebox!

No idea what happened to him.

e208 was picked up today, the insurance actually sent it to a repair garage who rang within minutes to say it's a total loss.

Looking at Konas and e-Niros on BCA for a replacement.

Zoe is done and off for MOT tomorrow.

Not bad. I knew about the tyres, they're crazed/cracking on the sidewalls. And the discs are rusty because it's been stood.

Aftermarket one piece grey plastic isn't the best look but it will do for now.

Ha, I sold NJ16 NRN a few months ago, also a black Zoe.

3 black ones in a row now, hopefully it will help confuse my neighbours as to whether I am turning over an excessive number of cars or not

Don’t discount the car supermarkets for a Kona etc - last time I looked at them there was fuck all margin in them, might as well buy a prepped one

Yeah there really doesn't seem to be much between auction prices and auto trader prices, this is on the list: https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202603020337447?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android-app

But we're also considering trying to stretch a little bit more and get an Ioniq 5, 21 plate 73kwh models are out there around £13-14k and it's a lot more car.

So in the end we did this. 21 Niro 4+ on 66k for less than I saw one a few months older in the same colour/spec go through BCA. (Before fees!)

Car: great

Cinch: twats.

Rang on Friday to ask to come and see/test/buy on Sunday. "Ah sorry M9 we can only reserve them for 24 hours and if you haven't bought it it won't be prepped"

Right. Agreed that we would do a buy online Friday afternoon and this would allow their valeters to prep it last thing Friday as apparently they're not there at the weekend. Also got a personal assurance from the person I spoke to that they would plug it in and give it an overnight charge on Friday or Saturday night. Thought no more of this.

Sunday morning comes, about 10am, GF gets a phone call "sorry love but the car won't start, the AA are meant to be coming out to it at 11"

She had been at her parents house in Worcester and was driving up to me by about 1pm to then drive back down to Derby. By the time she arrives, zilch from Cinch in terms of phone calls.

Rang them, most of the options go to a message saying "sorry, we're closed" but speak to a sales lad who was apologetic but useless. He can't put us through to the store or ring them himself. The "logistics team" are meant to be sorting the AA but there are no updates shown on the computer.

After a short conflab we decide that we're getting the fucking car whether they like it or not seeing as they've already had the money for it. Concluding pretty much the only possibility for the car not powering up is a flat 12v, we pick one up from Halfords and head down.

About 3:30pm (collection slot was 3-4pm) we actually finally get a call saying the car is ready to collect it we can still get there.

Arrive and the car is waiting in front, great start. Go in and the bloke asked if we've taxed it - they email you the green slip number to tax it yourself and don't give you physical paperwork as why the fuck would you sell the paperwork with the car? Only the email she got gave the green slip number as 1111111111111 and bizarrely this didn't work on the DVLA website.

Matey tells us we can't take the car. I tell him in no uncertain terms that they've taken our money, it's our car and we will be fucking taking it. He reckons that it happens all the time that cinch fuck up the green slip number and when this happens they send someone to a post office to do a V62 for you and tax it for 6 months.

What the fuck kind of operation can't provide the bare minimum of legal documents with a car I don't know.

Anyway when I checked the car online it was showing taxed till September so fuck knows, maybe someone within the corporate clusterfuck of cinch does, matey in the store certainly didn't. But he relents and lets us take the car. Hand over keys and sign a tablet.

"Everything else in the car is it mate, service history and that?"

"Yeah everythings in the car"

Obviously there is no service book to be seen. Was on 100 miles range so had been charged a bit but not overnight.

Better service buying from BCA TBH.

The guy in the store told us there is no point trying to call cinch about anything at the weekend as most departments are closed. Whichever twat decided that they don't need any support functions working on what must be their busiest trading days needs a firm slap.

Does go some way to explain the complete lack of updates etc on whether the car would actually be ready.

I wouldn't expect much more from a dealer to be fair.  Sounds like a fuck on.

Yeah it was pretty suboptimal but it's over now and she has a car again.

Incidentally the Ford Capri hire car did 340 miles on Sunday with one 20min charge stop just after we picked up the Kia.

Decent bit of kit, clearly just trying to be a Temu Tesla Y, similar size/layout and one massive central touchscreen. I wonder if they would have done better if they hadn't called it a Capri.

Not had an update for a while, I'm still driving the black Zoe from the DC/DC repair. Was about to list it for sale when all the aircon gas fell out so that needs sorting before it can be gone.

Today is just a quick appreciation post for my van. Just back from holiday to France, 1800 miles covered @35mpg with 6 people plus luggage and bikes.

Zero prep except a clean and an oil change. Dealt with it like a trip to the shops. What a machine.
