No worries, although I as just about to hit confirm!

Just ordered a pair of Kumho KH18s for the from of the XM. We're currently on holiday south of Aberyswyth and have arranged to have the tyres delivered and fitted at a local garage for £10.50 a wheel. Fingers crossed it all goes to plan!!

Have you organised to have them fitted by a company off the the tyreleader website?

Yep, they're being delivered to and fitted by a local garage.

Ive heard grumbles on pissedonheads that the fitting charge they give is less than the garage charges sometimes. Thats why i asked my local tyre place if they would fit them, then just got them delivered to the office. The localest place tyreleader suggested was over 8 miles away anyway, in the centre of wycombe which i say fuck that to on the best of days...

I used one of the fitters on Mytyres website when i bought a set from them a few years ago, the fitting was fine but they charged about twice what they were quoting at on the site.

Not a problem, i paid up (putting it down to experience) and just sent Mytyres an email explaining the site was quoting the wrong price, not expecting anything by reply, however got an email back asking me to scan and send the receipt, which i duly did, got an apologetic reply and a refund of the difference, when i next looked on the site the fitting price had been upped accordingly.

I know online sellers sometimes get bad mouthed, and to be fair i've not yet had to deal with Tyreleader in any form of dispute, but Mytyres customer service came up trumps.

I've dealt so far with Camskill, Mytyres, Tyreleader, Oponeo and Tyremen over the years, each of them doing the best deal on the rubber i wanted at the time, never had a moments problem with any of them, Camskill's website wasn't too brilliant some years ago at auto checking stock and several times i had to name an alternative tyre or cancel but they seem to have fixed that and the last few times have been spot on.

Tend to prefer Tyreleader because they often list Nokian Vredestein and Uniroyals at good prices and those are my preferred makes.

I ordered a pair of 235/70 R16 General Grabber ATs from them last week, £86 per tyre - about £40 cheaper each than the best local price.

They've arrived today, with July 2015 timestamp.

VERY pleased :-)

Just give the tyre fitter a ring first, as I did the same, only to be told the tyre fitter had no agreement with tyre leader and the price quoted was not the price they charge.

Turned up and were fitted today! I had rang in advance to just double check things were OK as I'd read the odd horror story online. Garage were great, tyres balanced and fitted with a new valve for a tenner a pop, so about £90 all in for a pair of 205/60/16's Good stuff!

I feel mega posh now. new tyres eh?.. get me!

The fitter even had a Mk1 Orion 1600i Ghia project to perv over too..

He told me that decent part worns are getting hard to find now as the EU has stopped Germany exporting them to the UK. No idea how true that is but it's deffo much more difficult to track nearly new hoops down. Remember when you could get a tyre with 6-7mm of tread for £20? No chance of that nowadays!

Ordered a pair for father in laws micra on Sunday and they were delivered to my fitter first thing this morning  After paying him £8 a tyre to fit and balance I saved £11 a tyre over Halfrauds "special offer price" so thats a recommend from me.

Other daughter visited and had dinner with us Sunday, i had a quick poke nose round her long suffering Civic, both front tyres getting down a bit, probably 3mm that's bloody low enough the way she flies about, ordered two new 195.65 x 15 V rated Rain Experts that evening from Tyreleader,  delivered this morning.

£72 odd for the two, you can't get bloody better than that.

Posted

My rain experts are blody ace still, nearly 4 months fitted. I hardly drive any different in the rain, even the heavy downpours we had were shrugged off, and I ended up being an aldi wanker in L3 when everyone else was staying in L1 or 2 (was still only at about 55/60mph), but the confidence they give is amazing. I have to activly remember to not take the piss if it's wet just incase!

Accidentally* wheelspan away from someones gravel drive the other day joining a busy road, it flings shit everywhere!

Not sure anybody near me would fit rubber they hav'nt supplied.

Most of the garages will not fit parts provided by the customer.

^ really?

All the indies round here do. Garages, tyre fitters, the lot. They kick off if you try and eat a Greggs pasty in Weatherspoons though.

Am baffled.. Why would your local garage or tyre fitters kick off if you eat a Greggs pasty in Weatherspoons? Some sort of local custom or faux pas?

I thought that freedom of movement of goods is one of the founding principles of the EU.  If this is true then it smells bad

just ordered a pair of Nexen 185/55/15s for the F, £68.38 delivered to my house. My local indie will fit & balance them, provided I lay off the Ginsters on the day...

Further to the purchase & fitting story on my Uniroyal RainExperts on my 406 - after 1500miles they have proven an excellent tyre and can be recommended highly. Especially after a torturous journey from Hampshire to Kent the other week where if it wasn't pissing down, it was hammering down with rain (not the whole 130miles, just the first 125, after which it stopped and the sun came out..... seriously). The tyres proved their worth in such conditions, well worth the money for a set of new boots including fitting for well under £200.

arrived yesterday, fitted yesterday, proper job.

£68 for the tyres, £20 to have two balanced & fitted. The cheapest that the indie could do was £107 and I hadn't heard of the brand they would have used. The indie was ok about it and admitted using tyreleader for his wifes car in the past.

will use again

What do we think of Nankangs? I used to assume they were the usual Chinese shit but the internet suggests otherwise.

In a size I am looking for I can get Falkens, Nankangs or three or four different Golden Panda Lucky Tyre Corp type of brands. Normally I would be on the Falkens, but I see the Nankangs have a significantly higher wet grip rating (C as opposed to E).

Anyone used them? The reviews I have seen online are mostly for bigger low profile sizes and generally positive, but this is just wee 155 tyres and I cant find anything specific to the smaller sizes.

Read into this what you like (no personal experience of Nankangs) but I've seen quite a few performance cars with them fitted (Evo's, Scoobies etc) so they would be worth investigating further IMO.

I buy tyres from a wholesaler and can fit and balance and dispose of the carcass cheaper than some of these black circles prices including putting a 20% mark up on them.

What's surprising is when a customer comes in with a quote from a main dealer and I've got to match their price.

The dealers are cheaper than the fast fit places by a mile.

I think it's burned into people's minds that tyre fitting companies are cheap

I'd love to see the face of our local Citroen dealer if I parked my car outside their front door and went to ask for Tyres...

Yeah, I have seen that - the reviews i read were on high-spec Beemers and suchlike.

Will give them a go, I reckon....hopefully they will cope with 60-odd bhp!

Dave remember those ratings are arrived at by the makers own testing, not by independent or govt sites.

I had Vredestein Wintrac Extremes on the Hilux and you couldn't unstick the buggers no matter the weather, yet their official wet weather score is poor.

Take from that what you will.

I've heard nothing but bad opinions about Chinese rubber from people who's opinion i value, some achilees shit that was on my daughters Civic 2 litre did nothing but wheelspin, slung and replaced by Uniroyals and it sticks like shit to a blanket.

Other daughter had a relatively new BMW 320d compact some years ago, she had two new sumitomos fitted to the rear, effin hell i had the bastard sideways with no provocation despite its stability electronics, yep i slung them too and put a couple of Vredestein Ultracs on the back, normal shit hot grip returned.

Thats just two instances of immediate family.

Oh nearly forgot, my son bought a bloody nice E28 528i a few years ago shod on Corsa tyres (haven't a bloody clue where they are made) which i'd never heard off either, he spent much of his journeys sideways, circa 4 wheel steering syndrome, he doesn't buy shit tyres either.

I don't buy Chinese tyres normally, even on a used car, cos if the previous owner has fitted Chinese tyres the brakes are often in poor/neglected condition too (seem to go hand in hand), and by the time i've seen that combination i'm usually back in me car fucking off up the road.

Couple of years ago i spotted some federals at silly cheap prices for my MB which is surprisingly rapid and has no traction control of any description, thought i'd have my own little cheap experiment see if my possibly no longer valid prejudices were still valid...lovely and quiet, uncannily quiet in fact with bowling green smooth ride, fine in the dry and fair in the wet for the first season (i did run winters on this car, for the winters silly, so can't comment on cold grip)...however the second season i noticed far too easily provoked wheelspin in damp take off and one morning going to work i had two really nasty full broadsides for no good reason on damp roads, when i got home that night ordered a set of the latest Uniroyal Rainsports and got rid of the Federals sharpish still with over 7mm tread left.

My prejudices are still valid from my little experiment.

Can't comment on the nanks you are thinking about, just offering those snippets.

I had Nankangs down as a possible for the MGF, based purely on me seeing a race-prep F on a trailer plastered with Nankang stickers. I figured that, if they could go racing, they would probably* be ok.

They were however £1.83 dearer per tyre than the Nexens on tyreleader....

Is it just me or are all those tyre sites designed to mash your brain into a tiny pulp?  I've just spent 30 minutes fighting the urge to punch my computer until the part worn place down the road rang back to say he had a decent set for the Disco at £25 a corner fitted.  Guess where I'm going tomorrow?

I agree, I too have had my fill of shitty tyres and have binned off tyres with 6+mm of tread that came fitted to cars in the past due to literally frightening wet grip, but from what I read online the Nankangs have a better rep.

However, looking at this site.....

www.tyrereviews.co.uk

the ones I am looking at dont get a good wet rating, but then neither do the Falkens I was looking at either.

FFS.

I had nankangs on my 944'and they were brilliant, suggested by an independent Porsche garage. I was suspect at first but they were very good.
