Vauxhall Bring Back The Viva

it wouldn't be so bad, but the thing that GM are going to nail the Viva name onto looks like such a nasty little pile of shite.

like a corsa, only worse (i didn't think that was even possible)

bloody moderns....

Ahh, the Vauxhall Viva, a nice looking, classic small saloon car that I'd love to own.

And now they've taken a great name and completely fucked it up by using it on a shitty little modern bland mobile which I wouldn't give you the steam off my shit for!

Why do they need another small hatch? They already have the Adam (which is shit) and the Corsa (which is also shit) presumably this fits in between the two?

It's been said before, but worth repeating. All modern cars are shit!

It's a Daewoo with a Pauxhall badge as well, which means piss poorly made, and worth 27p after 3 years. And GM wonder why no fucker is buying their cars anymore

Basically yep it's a new Matiz being sold as a Vauxhall as GM have sacked off the Chevrolet name in Europe

Posted

I think it is effectively the Matiz mk 4.   Sold in US as Chevy Spark.   Also sold as an EV, apparently it's the best EV on sale for performance except Tesla obvs.

Could be worse, in Australia they sold a Daewoo Lacetti as the Holden Viva from 05 to 09.

If they were all lined up, i would not be able to distinguish any of the cars in that article to the next one with the exception of the Sandero. Every single car looks almost identical to the last one.

Vauxhall has high hopes for its revamped small car range, hoping to capitalise on Ford’s current weak spots. Tozer said: “We have three small cars and Ford doesn’t."

I think the name Tozer is a typo, it's in reality Tosser

Well I for one will be embracing the new Viva and will be retrofitting a button under the column to release the ignition key to mine.

OMG! Car manufacturer in rebranding shocker ... internet forum reels after car manufacturer releases a car as part of a strategy to capture a small part of the car market! GM Share holders said to be 'in emergency discussions'.

I want a Perodua Viva Sportive Ukalailai, because it sounds like some bizarre sex act, possibly involving water sports and musical instruments.

Edit: Having seen the Viva, it looks like a slightly smaller Corsa/Adam. Verdict: Would, if £7,000.

To be honest the original Viva was no great sakes in the quality department. I remember them back in the day, they usually rotted away within 7 years...

I remember Vivas the first time round, when they were pesky 'modern' cars with their new fangled energy absorbing steering column. They were shit new.

These new ones probably won't need the front wings replacing at the first MOT, more's the pity.

Why GM persist in making cars for the European market is beyond me.

Re-inventing car names seems to be a mixed bag, successwise. Skoda's re-use of Felicia, Octavia and Favorit seems to have worked for them. Granted, they're re-badged VW polos, Passats and (early) Polos but no-one can deny they're decent cars. Similarly VW's new Beetle and Fiat's 500. Personally I've never been a great Vauxhall fan (although my late Father swore that they were brilliant cars in the 50's & 60's) and I feel they lost their way in the late 80's.

I can't remember that far ago, as the HC Viva was before my time, but I can say that the HC Viva possesses all the refinement of a VM-powered cement mixer. HAs are cute, HBs charming, but the HC feels outdated by the standards of the 1970s.

But I can sympathise with how these rebrands knackered up Ebay searches. Perhaps I should be glad I don't know a Citroen DS for that reason.

My dad had one like this years ago. It was an automatic in gold.

One night thieves tried to thieve it but gave up mid-steal.

Perhaps they only realised it was a Viva halfway through their nefarious deed.

Back in 1976 I had an HB Viva on an H plate (1970). It was a deluxe model but following various scrapyard visits I made it look like the much more attractive SL model, which had a much nicer grille etc. One very handy thing about these cars was that, after a bit of use, any Viva key would fit the door locks of most other Vivas. A couple of guys at my work had HC models and my key would get me in to their cars and their keys would get them in to mine. So not the most secure car of all time.

All old car locks used to be rubbish.

I never took my car key out with me when I had an old Anglia.

My house key (Yale) would open the door, the boot and start it.

I drove around for a while using a lolly ice stick!

I posted this about six months ago, but I still wasn't sure if I was to believe it.

That went out of fashion years ago, about the same time people started learning to drive in DMF and anti-stall equipped diesels.

So poxall are bringing out another cheap crap car and calling it a viva at least they are consistent

Anti stall diesels?! Good god.

Oh yeah. Plenty of modern diesels have anti stall built in now. VAG stuff with stop-start is comical for it. It is possible to stall them but it takes a certain lack of mechanical sympathy.

Stop at lights, put car in neutral, foot off clutch and the engine stops. To make it start all you do is depress the clutch pedal. Engage 1st while the pedal is down and as the clutch pedal is released the revs raise just enough to compensate for the clutch taking up drive.

If you sit in a modern VAG diesel and just operate the clutch pedal the revs will blip slightly as the pedal is released. That's anti-stall.
