Recommended Posts

Hi, have lurked on here for a while and like the way things are, just bought this Forester petrol, auto, off Ebay, MoT till September. Has some minor  (hopefully) probs, such as throbbing power steering on startup ( slack belt ??). needs new back box as old one is now in my garden !! Bit grubby inside, but runs really well. Have added standard petrol station pics. Cheers, Bill.post-18106-0-17996000-1424374122_thumb.jpgpost-18106-0-72926500-1424374164_thumb.jpgpost-18106-0-58425600-1424374173_thumb.jpg

Welcome. The very first post being a petrol station shot!

You obviously know the score around here...

Hope the newness will be balanced by the cheapness and slightly weird looks !!

£180?! Top shiteing there, what a buy.

Got any other motahs on the go at the moment?

Welcome along,  I'm counting the days till these things hit 20 for OMG cheap insurance.

Nice first post. Even if its flawed, thats still an excellent price for a car you can drive away. Well bombinged.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Forester ownership.  Looks like you got a bit of a bargain there - mine was quite a lot more than that (although to be fair it has quite a lot more power too).

May I suggest adding a location for said vehicle ... I'm sure a Cavcraft representative will be along shortly to discuss the sale.

Chris, I don't think he's selling it, he's just showing us what he's won. (Though I thought it was an ad a first too.)

Welcome Bill. Check the PAS for leaks, it may be low on fluid. Normally you'd hear a slack belt.

Apparently back boxes are like hen's teeth. Zippy (GDH on here) just got a custom job made for his S-Turbo, which used to belong to Pops_KJ.

I was umming over those at £500 last summer, and they seemed a bargain then. £180 is spangly for what appears to be quite a capable car.

Good luck with the back box, perhaps a bespoke powerflow (or whoever it is that cobbles crap together out of pipes in the back of tyre fitting places) is the answer.

Thanks for the warm welcome, will reply to posts in a random fashion as the quote thing is beyond my skills ! Car is in Neyland, Pembrokeshire. I have noticed belt is slack and is on the to do list, have found some new back boxes at around £ 55.00. Think i may delete back box with some pipe from scrappers as suggested above, if it sounds ok thats a winner, also have a 406 coupe in v6 flavour. the Forester is to be my daily work car, its the humble 2.0 non turbo, but my neighbour has already offered some go faster bits, I will resist for as long as possible. lol. cheers, Bill.

Awesome wagons had my Turbo Fozzer for 4 years -

steering is usually belt  loose or knackered - do you hear a bit of squeal with throb?

Best Tonka Toy out there for the money, and by bugger you have a cheap un

Welcome!

I considered one of these in an idle moment when they were still quite modern.  I dunno, must have gone through a sick-of-shite stage.   Strange seeing them so cheap now, right colour too!  Good bombing.....

Wowzers! Top chodding for sure. Here in mid-Wales, Foresters are all over the place. Hugely popular. Which is annoying, as I quite like the gawky looks and the fact that every time I see one, I think of Philippa Forrester. In the Robot Wars days.

Welcome! I drove a few of these in my days working for the local Subaru dealer in the early '00's.

My fave was the S Turbo, it just felt like it was all the car you would ever need. We had a '96 Legacy 2.0 auto saloon knocking about for a while, white with brown interior. Liked that as well.

Total bargain! These are amazingly well put together wth very few vices, unfortunately second-mortgage-expensive exhausts are one of them

Hmm Philippa Forrester 😄 I always thought she only had one set of clothes as she always had the same outfit on for robot wars . Then I realised the whole series was filmed in one day . Doh

Thinking about Phillippa Forester may explain the throbbing I am experiencing, ordered a back box for £ 68.00. If thats all it needs then I am quids in. Still got to check cambelt as there is no service history, last owner did fit refurbed front calipers, battery, and a radiator. It has also got the Winter Pack fitted !! Cheers, Bill.

Yep, love the S Turbo.

I bought mine whilst drunk in a field last summer as a bit of a temporary "hoon"

However it's earned itself a permanent place on the fleet as I spent a fair bit on bringing it up to scratch. (Mainly back end suspension & an exhaust)

Now it's right, it just "works" - it's even just completed a 3000 mile european roadtrip without missing a beat.

Welcome Billy. Seen a few of these.

CAMBELT.........CAMBELT...........CAMBELT !!!!!!!!!!

Check it NOW.

Thats even better value than mine, it was a 1997 2.0 GLS manual, with 210,000 miles for £230, it was in reasonable nick when i bought it, and i did have it sitting in a better state; the lowered suspension was put back to standard, and a few rusty dents were sorted, but its done some rallying/off roading round fields and a bit battered now, still starts up and drives fine, and all the electrical bits still work other than the power aeriel which broke, the heated seats in this one is very good.

its great fun on a wet field, plenty of grip but they will still go sideways.

A bit of an incident with a drain/hedge:

Fixed with duct tape, and some copper grease to prevent rust:

Hi,bit of an update, back box on so sounds fruity but legal, throbbing now gone( shame) just took a few mins to adjust power steering/alt belt !! Was advertised with no service history, but took a chance. Also found the owners manual and service book in glove box, service history up to 20,000 miles ago, mostly main dealer including cambelt at 90,000, result !!!!!!!!!! Also checked auto fluid nice red and correct level, same with oil. Think this might be a long term keeper . Cheers, Bill.
