Shite of the future - What are you looking forward to?

What cars are you looking forward to seeing for sale at an autoshite friendly price and why?

I'm somewhat interested by these tiny L250 Daihatsu Charades, it looks like they are just getting to be under a grand now but those ones are a bit leggy and well used.

1937 Packard Twelves going out of fashion and re-entering shiter territory.

Because I want one.

Same goes for Facel Vega Excellences.

Jag XF. Can't wait to buy one for the price of a family cinema ticket.

New generation Saab 9-5 . Yes I know it's an insignia underneath but still looks pretty cool and it's one of the last cars they made

An ageing Insignia? Oh dear...

I'm just waiting for some genius to get hold of one of these electric cars, rip all the crap out of it and fit a V8.

I'm looking forwards to Leafs being available at scrap value or less, so that either a quick electro-tickle of the cells gives another year or so of life and then the power source can be used as a domestic energy reservoir for PV panels, gennies or whatever - so I can be free of the utility companies.

I still say these are one of the best looking modern cars out there.

I have seen a few edging towards £1500 but with problems - still a bit strong for my budget.

Er, no. Not a Tesla either, I mean one of these tiny, almost useless "Look at me, I'm saving the world* green* loadsabatteries 50 miles at walking pace things (might be a little biassed here) shopping carts like a Nissan Nazi or a Toyota Priaprism (hmm, maybe I should do some research before spouting this nonsense, but on the other hand why bother?). Rip the batteries out, rip the motors out, stuff something mental (...) in there.

Tell you what though, for the shite of the future it's not welding skills we'll be needing, we'll need a degree in electronics instead.

Modern cars aren't going to reach Shite status.  If the plastics don't fail, the electronics will, and a perfectly presentable, rust-free shell will be condemned because of some little widget that you have to buy from the dealer (who most likely has to fit it) at a cost of at least ten times the remaining payments.  As younger cars are welcomed into the classic-car world, Shiters will have to choose between keeping scrap on the road, or stumping up for a neo-classic.  Or biting the bullet and signing the forms for some new shitheap.

This is your new dystopian future.  Sorry.

Agreed, although if people really want to, anything can be kept running. I just don't think there'll be the will to mess with oily engines and all the guff which is strapped to a modern ICE. Early EVs could be the most collected cars around, if more modern batteries can be made to fit. The next generation will be fixing and tuning them remotely, via a laptop and internet.

Oh, I thought we were playing "what's nobody liking now but will be well sought after when they're but all gone" and not "If I had a time machine..."

Edit: That was for Mr Shrimp up there, sorry.

I'll look forward to hybrid and electric car banger racing! Finally a use for them!

We were but as normal I was being a cock :-)

Tbh I would like a range rover evoke. They're just the right side of weird that people will think they look shit in a few years.

Nissan cube again for the same reason and they didn't sell that many. Really anything that's a bit odd looking

Everything I want is already 30 years plus old, so has already been through the shite phase.

The 21st century cars I have or have had is quite enough of this era.

Never had a '90s car though. Have I missed anything worth trying? 306 convertible / auto / hardtop perhaps?

Ah fariy nuff. How about a Nissan Juke? Now they really do look odd. I was giving a mate of mine a lift yesterday and he saw one for the first time - "It looks like a goblin shark!" he said, and then told me to look it up, which I duly did. Man, nothing's that ugly, poor shark.

I had a 306 convertible as a rental in Tenerife.  I thought it was lovely and would certainly like to try one here, except how often is a convertible worth the bother?  The one 406 I've driven was nice too and I know the 405 gets a lot of love round here, as does the 205.  So those might be worth a look for you.
