Fancy showing your welding bloke the pics of my qq and seeing if he laughs or not? Before I go slapping Fibreglass all over it and it turns out it's a cheap easy job...😂

Hopefully 5 years on the field have been kind to it but it should be OK, he can sink a fair few hundred quid into it and still come out on top at least

I'm fairly certain it'll be fibreglassed up and ignored but I'd like some idea of how much it might cost to get welded... More for my own curiosity mostly

I would love to have another shot of it as I have great memories when I had it 12 years ago. It was the first car I bought from Autoshite, direct from Mr Bollox's.

The trouble is I have a queue of 10+ project cars along with the list of cars awaiting lighter repairs.

Driving the car home last time it misfired badly near home and then had a light misfire. I have never seen this before, one of the metal posts inside the distributor cap is loose and rotated! New cap and rotor needed. Anybody seen this before? Also points gap was double what it should have been.

Today Slowsilver and his Mini owning friend have been helping me with my Mini snagging list.

N-S rear indicator not working turned out to be a dirty/loose connection behind the fuel tank. Cleaned and refitted sorted that problem.

Stiff hand brake seems to be the O-S rear quadrant, but will have to wait until we have the car jacked up.

Speedo stopped working, turns out to be a broken cable.

Drivers seat belt not latching properly was simply a clean and lubricate.  

The oil drip needs the car to be jacked up running, which was not possible today.

Plugs look great.

Yep, had that on a cap on one of my Estelles - it also destroyed the rotor arm.  Luckily I had the pre-service parts still sitting in the boot so it was a 90 second side of the road fix.  Was an Intermotor branded cap as I recall.

Thursday night I blew the driver's side sealed beam headlight with a blackness to it on the Sovereign S1. It made getting home in the dark hard work because the n-s is set a bit low. Today I fitted a new o-s one.

This was in preparation for loaning the car out to a local friend who is considering buying a series 1 XJ6. He used to own a series 3 and came back saying a series 1 compared well and felt more special.

No just points, condenser, distributor cap and rotor arm.

The Series 2 drives better, but has more emission stuff on the engine, an ugly front bumper height, and lacks a row of switches and dials.

9 Years ago we decided that we wanted another early XJ6, but the price of the Series 1 cars had risen a lot so we settled for a Series 2 Daimler Sovereign, which pleased Mrs6C because she preferred the Daimler grill, fittings and upholstery.  10 days later on this forum a Series 1 came up for sale marooned in North London with no brakes at a garage that said they could not fix it, but at an affordable price. so we bought that as well.

The plan was to then decide which of the two cars to keep, yes we still have them both in running order!

A little bit of fettling on the Mini today.

The plan was to fit a new Speedo cable, access to the gearbox screw in end of the cable is severely limited and after several attempts with different tools it was determined we needed to remove the radiator. It turns out that was not a bad thing as there is a large patch of the radiator fins that are clogged with mud and oil.

That extra few inches in the wheelbase of the series 2 really helps the proportions.

I like the SWB car better.

Late Series 1 cars had the option of LWB and the series 2 cars were initially announced with either wheelbases, but later only LWB was available on S2.

No I have never owned an S3, but have driven a few. Slightly more refined than the early cars and I would certainly not say no to one.

Its not what you think!

The Daimler is saving the Rover, honest! The Rover had not been out for a while and a quick charge to get it going is all that was needed this morning. Trouble was after a 20 mile drive the battery was still unable to start the P5B so Daimler to the rescue. The owner went off and got a new battery and returned to the meeting all sorted out.

There is a localish group called "The Loose Alliance Car Group" who hold or join in with other car events. It is a broad church from a Morris Minor to Bentleys and our leader works very hard booking events and letting people know about events. If you are around Bedford/ Milton Keynes/Dunstable it is worth checking them out if you are looking for car events. It is free to belong to the group on Facebook and events are sometimes free and sometimes have an event charge.

Today was at the The Dukes, Heath and Reach which was free to turn up. The pub opened to sell bacon rolls, breakfasts etc.

There is a peoples choice which was won by a very nice classic Range Rover who gets a free breakfast for next month. I think if I spent £70,000 on my classic Range Rover I could win a free breakfast! Car of the show for me was the 1926 Morris Bullnose Oxford, well it was warm, sunny and dry.

Friday afternoon @Slowsilver helped me get the Citroen DS out of storage. We found the rubber on the coil lead had disintegrated but it started well and ran fine. 

A quick legal and levels check showed oils and water fine, one tyre was very low on air and the spare a bit low. Later I checked the lights as I was planning to drive it in the dark and they all worked. 

I took the DS to Milton Keynes Classic car gathering Friday evening. Trouble is it had quite bad misfire on the way home.

The misfire was bad enough I did not want to drive the DS to this mornings MK Modern Classics breakfast meet.

The Alfa 156 got called on as reserve.

This afternoon was the annual Citroen DS rally. As it is not as far as this mornings breakfast meeting I decided to take my chances and misfire to the rally field.

The good news is at the Citroen rally this afternoon I was able to buy a new set of HT leads and cheeked the guys into fitting them for me. Misfire is gone and I had a lovely drive home even if it was raining. 38 Citroen DS's on a wet Saturday in a field at one point!

No water running down the inside of the windscreen anymore since Citroen Classics rebuilt the cant rail and refitted the roof.

Same company as I bought the HT leads from today. I asked the price and when given the price simply said is that fitted! Shocked by my cheek they fitted them then and there just as the rain started so no pictures.
