The issue is, to leave the FOD, it would have to go up a 1% incline…….without being towed! if a diesel pump appears im happy to get it going, but it would probably need £3k welding. it would be much more logical to find a better 2.3d engine and sling it in…….then spend thousands welding it. i seem to recall the bed being bowed and the ramps being a PITA to put back in……something to do with hauling a Senstpr 24v back front Kent. They are all the Cars of the late Ian Verco. We liked the idea of the Opel Manta but unfortantly Ian was not up to selling it to me. After he passed on they became a collection that needed a home. The simplest way to make sure I got the Manta was for me to buy the collection, keep the Manta and pass on the others. That sort of worked except I also wanted to keep the Royale, Mrs6C the CF and Carlton Saloon. Also the deal with his Carlton Estate was it should be at least in good running order so if I passed it on it would not turn into a spares car. This was a car Ian V was well known for and why @ianbmw has given so much time to help me. This is the Manta in the days when Ian Verco had it. RichardK, Shite Ron, LightBulbFun and 7 others 10

It would need an inordinate amount of work to make it even remotely road legal. And about £5k pouring into it. ... and you'd still have a 2.3D CF recovery vehicle with a bent loading bed. Were it mine, I'd break it for spares for other CF owners and buy something that has slightly more structural integrity than a wet tea bag. somewhatfoolish 1

Were it mine, I'd break it for spares for other CF owners and buy something that has slightly more structural integrity than a wet tea bag. It started life working as a vehicle to collect broken down (I assume flat battery) milk floats, it did that for a good number of years, before heading down the generic 3.5t recovery lorry route. It’s been hand painted more times than a ex MoD Land Rover. The previous deceased owner installed a hand winch as the previous leccy winch was stolen, many memories of the breaker bar which operated the winch, clocking up air miles as it flew off mid winch. The chassis itself is fine from memory, the bed could be straightened with the use of hydraulic jacks and could safely carried light cars. But I think from memory it’s useful carrying capacity was 1250 or so kilos, or 50kilos if you want to go up hill. If the pump re appears, il spend a few hours and see if I can get it going again. If nothing else, I’m sure it could be used to moved stuff around the FOD. As much as I hated the thing, I remember it starting no matter what the weather, usually on 3 before remembering it’s true identity as a 4 pot. Yoss, Dick Cheeseburger, dome and 1 other 4
Dyslexic Viking Posted October 10, 2024 Posted October 10, 2024 I have to admit that the CF is worse than I first thought and would understand if it is parted out and scrapped but would still like to see it saved. Mrs6C 1

Six-cylinder Posted October 10, 2024 Author Posted October 10, 2024 It passed its MOT! Yes thanks to @ianbmw the red Carlton Estate is back on the road with a fresh MOT. The Garage who failed it in May claimed it was not worth the effort of MOTing it and even if I did it would cost a fortune! Ian worked very hard to sort the minor faults without parts. @Andyrew had helped a lot by finding the new brake discs front and rear that were intended for this car and rescued them from the scrap. In the end I just had to buy a steering Rod and subframe bushes. richardmorris, Yoss, 24vdiamond and 37 others 25 15

It’s going to living with me for a week or so before the grand hand over back.
