Audi s4

Bren

Recommended Posts

My 40 mile round trip to work may be coming to an end - I have managed to get something closer to home.

I will no longer need a diesel - I am thinking about buying something that I want as opposed to need.

I have always fancied an audi S4 - good looking car with cracking v8 engine. Ten year old examples can be had for less than £7k.

Anybody know anything about them? Good or bad?

Wasn't the W reg one a V6 Twin turbot?

Always fancied one of these as well but not got the balls, plus to me it's not special enough for the wedge. It's just an Audi saloon with a great engine in it at the end of the day.

I know nowt about them, but I'd probably go for the older s2 (or rs2 if you can find one) instead as they've already depreciated, so may even go up in value.

In the light of my mate getting a new RS4, myself and another chap, (the bald-headed Audi addict I have mentioned on here before) were talking about these at the weekend.

S4s of the 10 year old type may suffer from : barmy electronics including the need for an ECU reflash, duff reverse gear selector, cooling fan issues related to barmy electronics and ECU, and something about the power steering not quite being man enough.

Actually, that little list ain't bad for an Audi.

I read on the Internet that Audi s4 front seats get stolen and are impossible to replace because they're mega special and they don't make them any more, so as a precaution you should take the seats with you when you park up.

Starts pistonheads type flame war.

[PH Troll] Rubbish ! A chipped 330d with a capable driver is a much faster car in the real world ! [/PH Troll]

We have top of the range mercs and even a rolls royce on here.

I thought I would chuck this into the mix as you can bag one for the same money as a leggy insignia.

Parts are expensive but it's still fundamentally an a4 . The rs ones have more specialist bodywork and suspension changes I think. You'll probably get early 20s mpg as at normal speeds they just burble along the same as my merc.

They handle a bit weird . Tons of grip but a bit numb. M3 is better but probably a bit more fragile, less practical and more likely to flick you into a ditch.

Actually, there IS an Autoshite way into Audi V8 ownership :

Dunno about you, but I'd hit that !

There is one of these for sale around the corner from me. I'll see if I can capture a pic + price.

How brazen do they have to be to smash the window, then break out the socket set to remove the seats? On the plus side, that guy's just found his Belkin Tunecast which he'd lost under the passenger seat so it's not all bad news.

Or 7 really bad SD1's

This is the best option. With 7 of them, you might have a really good chance of 8 cylinders firing for full V8 power.
