52mm throttle body??

Next up was FURTHER MINIMAL POWER UPGRADES.

 

 

The weak narrow plastic throttle body was kicked to the kerb, and replaced by a larger, meatier alloy body from a ZR 160 Trophy.  Acceleration and throttle response is improved, doubt top overall power is effected though.  Stuck a high performance RAM AIR filter on too.  Maybe I am an arsehole chav after all.  Sounds lovely though.

Sensible upgrades mate, the 52mm makes no difference to top end stuff but does make a difference to throttle response. Good upgrade for MGF's too.

 

A less restrictive filter is also helpful. Not chavvy but sensible.

Like shit off a ducks back. I really rate these engines and there's an improvement even it its just in my mind. The old TB was "singing" from somewhere so thought I might as well upgrade if it was coming off for inspection. All tight up now.

MOT was applied for today.

 

The obligatory CV boot was replaced, a bit of handbrake adjustment was applied and a couple of bulbs changed.

 

Result - another years happy PERFORMANCE HOT HATCH MOTORING achieved.

 

 

 

 

The Gti has been passed sideways to MrsShitpeas after the departure of the Lanos of win and the purchase of the 405.  She loves the Rover, and so she should, as its an flipping excellent car.  I dont think I could ever sell it.

I imagine this to be a slightly better-handling version of my 200 Vi.  Which would make it a brilliant machine.

Well, I tried to do some fixing.

 

The heater knob had lost its grip on its peg and had became useless at its job. Upon removal, a bit snapped off and blocked the fitting of a replacement unit.

 

Needle nosed pliers and swearing won the day.

 

 

 

 

Bodged with wire in the past:

 

 

 

 

 

 

All fixed.

 

 

Well, actually not. To reward my attentions the bastard has developed a running fault.

 

Under hard throttle at low revs, it splutters, jerks and tries to die. Sounds clattery under these conditions too. Revs clean in neutral throughout the range though and seems to run fine at higher revs.

 

Could be all manner of things. Leads, plugs, coilpacks, a valve etc etc.

 

 

 

I chose the cheapest two replacement parts in the hope that its easilly solved.

 

 

 

 

 

Gonna try those tommorow and do a compression test.

You should have said; I've an unused set of OE VVC HT leads.  VVC HT leads are different to standard HT leads.
