Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells, Turbo all the way...!!!SVM Content!!!

There was a Volvo 760 Turbo on eBay a few months back that I didn't go for. I had a grumpy. It reappeared last week. I went for it. I got it. BUGGER.

So anyways I have ruined my bank account again with yet more swelling of the Scotoshite Volvo MASSIV ranks with the purchase of a 760 estate. To facilitate this, the 960 will likely have to go up for sale so if there's any interested parties, you know where the PM button is but this is all happening in January so don't expect anything to happen before Christmas.

Had to pay slightly over the odds for it but it's a 760 with the correct body style, correct engine, correct gearbox and a towbar. 760 Turbos were rare as rocking horse shit when new so the fact there's any good ones left is a minor miracle in it's own.

Bookings have already been made for myself, cms206 and rml2345 to do a collection run and at £35 from Glasgow to Brighton (less than 10p per mile) we all thought that was pretty bloody good. Travel is of course provided by the SVM Industries' wholly owned subsidiary, John Candy Promotions - we fly to Gatwick then a train to Brighton whereupon we will either be collected by the seller, get a bus to his house or scadge a lift off Sigmund Cox and/or Barrett to go get it. After that it's 1 x whoor of a drive home so expect a somewhat interesting LIEV KOLLECKSHUN FREAD on the day and a lengthy writeup thereafter.

Have some gratuitous eBay photos for your enjoyment...

Soon Scotlandshire will be sinking under the weight of all those Volvos

There will be the day when you push one across the border, and another one falls into the sea on the other side of Scotland.

That looks really nice, top bombing! How many miles back is that though, must be a good few hundred?

Maybe Volvos have a magnetic attraction. There'll come a point where there are so many up here, that they'll achieve critical mass and it'll be impossible to keep one south of the border.

Looks nice though.

460-ish IIRC Billy; I did the same journey a few months back when bringing the ex-Sigmund Cox 740 estate from Brighton via Chodlymong...

Thankfully, every time a Volvo enters Scotland, there's less room for a Corsa with a massive yellow Arnold Clark sticker - that can only be a good thing.

If anyone south of Scotlandshire wants an ovlov estate these days, they are bollocksed, as the SVM seem to own them all. Does an alarm go off in SVM HQ whenever one comes up for sale?

Posted

I've just been out to check on my 940.  It's still there, outside the house; but slightly worryingly, it's moved 3 inches to the North

Looks nice. Can't think of anything better to drive the distance back home in either, especially in those lovely leather seats.

I loved doing long runs in my old 740 saloon, it had the same black leather seats. Get out the other end feeling as good as when you started the trip.

Top bombing Davey, did I read correct that all 3 of you will be making the journey down for this one?

Is that a turbo with an auto box? If so I seem to remember the auto option on the turbos was something daft like £2700 extra.

Posted

Excellent. Volvo +turbo +black leather +auto = WIN. Enjoy the trip!

In my Volvo dealer days in parts a good number of 760 enquiries/sales were Turbo's, there were a fair few round here. Now I think about it that was 12 years ago though...

Yup. All 3 of us. We usually do collection trips in a group. £35 each from Glasgow to Brighton aint half bad either.

Yes it is an auto box. ZF as well so a proper one.

Oh and according to the manny EVERYTHING works, even the air con.

So with this latest purchase, here's how we stand...

SVM Fleet Status (2014 Q4):

Andy (cms206)

2 x 745 : "Savalas" Council Estate. Almost 1 year VOR. Boo and, indeed, hiss. "Woy Cwopper" OMGHGF and OMG heater matrix FAEL!

1 x 945 : "Bertha" Not running right. The cowbag.

1 x 345 : D. The Luxe fell off. VOR 17 years and slowly making a comeback.

Dave (davidfowler2000)
1 x 745 : Blue. Status Unchanged.
1 x 965 Mk1 : Grey. Recent damage during loan repaired. Still uses coolant...

1 x 765 Turbo : Collection pending.

Neil (Creeping Jesus)

1 x 850. Green. Asthmatic. Still VOR.

1 x V70, Red. No news here

Richard (Richard)
1 x 850 TD. No news here either I think.

Ryan (Voltastic)

1 x S40. Unseen for a long time. Will need to be chased

Anon (Spiney Norman)

1 x V40. Still very crusty. Now with added gaffer tape and Hammerite!

Tiff (Barry Cade)

1 x V40. Modern. Younger than some of my still valid tax discs.

Joe (Joseph Martin)

1 x 850. T5. With included winterdyke in the back

1 x S40. Unseen so far at a dinnering.

SVM Fleet Movements and Information. 2014, Q4

The ex Barry Shitpeas 850 is still awaiting turbo repairs.

The SVM would also like to extend a formal welcome to it's newest member, Joseph Martin (Joe). The third new member in as many updates. Turned up with a winterdyke and various other crap in the back of the 855GLT.

My 960 has been repaired and you can almost tell nothing was done to it. Sill is like brand new but some of the sturdier metal underneath is a bit mangled.

Andy's 764 has finally been taken away after much has been salvaged from it. The caramac interior replaced the grey interior in Adrian's 965.

Adrian's SVM membership is currently on hold due to the deadly combination of black ice and a Volvo Olympian full of schoolies. Written off and replaced with Swampy21's Carismareble.

Andy got himself a 345DL that had spent 17 years in a lock up. It took a bit to get it started but is currently running. WIll need a significant but not ridiculous amount of work to be made roadable again

Pending Membership - Lee (Swampy21)

An unusual situation where we have a Scotoshitist who has attended a dinner but not in a Volvo who now owns a Volvo. A red, misery spec 945 purchased a couple of weeks ago from Lancaster. Needs some minor tinkering but is generally in very good order.

Wait up, have I missed something?  Is it all over for the Vanilla Breeze Block?

We are still waiting on word back at SVM HQ if the hulk will return as a donor for the remaining estates.

Is the 960 on offer for more than £350?

Wouldn't mind a 960.

Posted

Oh dear.

Thanks Andy.  Poor Adrian isn't having a lot of luck, is he!  What a crying shame.

Aye. It's quite tidy and I've done a wheen of work to it. It's also had a brand new radiator at the cost of the man who broke it. Will be asking around 650 for it. It'll come with a bootful of spare parts too including a starter motor, steering rack and gearbox.

Next estate you buy will come with a title, and a coat of arms.

Hopefully, once insurance is sorted and we can go and get at it, we'll either buy it back as a donor car, or at the very least, the grille will replace the one on my 945.

Oi! My car chromosome is diamond shaped!

Although, given Volvo and Renault's love-ins, there's room for a partial mutation...

Shame about RMLs one, I must've missed that too. Is it really not fixable? Presumably it did it's job though, which is the main thing.

Posted

If it is fixable I'd be surprised as the D pillar has shifted quite far back and the front inner wing stopped at the chassis leg. No idea of further damage as the bonnet has been shifted quite substantially as well.

Sorry Eddy, I know how much you liked it.

Posted

To be fair, it stood up well to the double decker it hit and didn't even deploy the air bag.
