Now I've got me a rice racer I want to go to a cruise wiv da posse. Do these events still occur? Like an impromptu meet in ASDA car park at 2am in shitetown (not Saturday afternoon in Old Compton Street). As I am an old bastard will I take a beating attempting the?

Cruising has died out, it was a scenes and like all scenes it passes eventually, and actually cruises were good, normally tastefully modified cars and ones with serious power, some good down to earth sensible people who enjoyed adding bits to their cars and talking to like minded mates about cars rather than sitting down the pub getting pished or going to nightclubs and snorting Columbian white and popping swedgers, had something to show for their money and generally were good, safe drivers, most I know who were into the cruising scene now just drive S Line Audi's, M Sport Beemers and things like Focus RS, Evos, Subaru's and Type R Civics rather than SXi Corsas, SRi Astra's, Escort Sis, 206s etc with tasteful mods. A couple of decent friendly banterous cruising sites I was a member on have become ghost towns due to Facebook.

Boy racers with barried "limited edition" Corsa D's (the most ironic trim ever as its one of the most common cars on the road) Chavved mk8 Fiesta Zetec S and base Fiestas and Corsas with ill fitting aftermarket alloys and stainless exhaust backboxes still congregate in Tesco, Asda, McDonalds and retail park and shopping centre car parks until 1am most nights, generally wee dicks trying to impress their g-star raw clad chums and their chav wee dirty slut birds, taking videos of their 1 litre Corsa revving its tits off on their iphone 6s, wheelspinning and driving likr utter cocks and narrowly avoiding crashing into innocent members of the public, car enthusiasts have "meets" and go for runs to country pubs for a meal and a spirited drive the odd Sunday etc now

Seems Facebook has hijacked a lot of forums. Can't stomach it myself, seems to bring agro to people.

I always enjoyed seeing the bunsen burner exhausts, underfloor lighting and other Barry kit years ago. I also like we'll modified, powerful sports cars and older classics, so it's all of interest to me.

I guess younger petrol heads just can't afford to do so much now in pov spec Britain.

As above they exist but they're shit.

We still go to them to show them what real cars look like!

I believe there's still a big cruising scene around Hampstead Heath.

In the early 90s, me and the burd used to sit behind FADS in my 1970 Mini 1000 listening to her Madonna tape. Was only us there, though  :-D

19" rimz ona corsa an big speakerz, fundamentally provin al voxholls is sheite

Reckon Hendry nailed it pretty well.

The other reason they died out in the main was that the chavs & twats who invaded it drove like idiots (as Hendry said), this understandably attracts the attention of the police so the more sensible-heads think 'Sod this' and lose interest as they don't need the hassle from either party.

Surely the RR Meadowhall meet is a perfect example of this? Tits ruined it for the masses so it just couldn't happen without making everyone look bad,

well said ghosty I used to love going to the rr meet at meadowhall till all the idiots started arsing about a friend tried to say something on the site about it saying that itll get shut down if they don't stop their only response been "were only having a bit of fun " so in the end I stopped going before the police got involved because my car stands out a bit more than a few scene dubs

They have some kind of a meet at halfords in Newton abbot, it's not just barried crap either, there's normally "our" kind of chod too. I've never been, just driven past in the wagon.

There's still a reasonably sized one at Teesside Park.

I'm guessing it's full of pricks though.

Each to their own, but certainly not my cup of Tetley's.

Don't know about cruises but wander around any retail park on a Sunday and you will usually see a few shite boxes out for their weekly run to buy pillowcases and B&M toffees.

In the late 80's / early 90's me and my mates used to actually drive our cars with the radio's blasting, trying to impress young females under the influence of a bottle of thunderbird.

We were late teen's / early 20's, but car wise it was a chod fest - mk 2 essy, cortina, SD1, cavalier I could go on, we actually drove round as opposed to filling up a car park full of corsa's and fiesta's and having shite music blasting out. The difference is the young of today cannot afford to drive their cars - they can only park up and look at them.

I'm sure me in my beige BX would have done their street cred* the power of good.

A beige BX? I'm in love (with the car so don't get any ideas there sonny Jim.).

That's not far from me; did it look to be worthy of further investigation?

turned up to a 'meet' in my bluebird with banded steels on (i know), bunch of young oiks come up to it, one says "they wheels would look cool on my corsa" bloody yoof of today etc.

Definitely. What impressed me was an obviously souped up '50s 100E peeling rubber out of the car park. I'm pretty sure I saw a hillman avenger too. I normally see interesting stuff in that neck of the woods, including an ldv pilot wearing slot mags outside the fire station.

I think I am a dirty chav at heart because I loved all that scene and still get a hankering to fit underfloor neons to my fleet.

Last weekend I dusted off an old 12" sub box, some door speakers and an amp and ICE'd up my Landrover, which now sounds awesome.

Cheers, well if anyone fancies chavving it up in Newton Abbott one evening, let me know :)

Me and Derskine went to another one in Dundee, it was in a multistory car park opposite a huge police station. The selection of cars was crap mainly moderns but there was some shite there too...

Highlights!

Then there was this cunt revving the shit out of the E28, bouncing it off the limiter for long periods of time and making a lot of noise...
