Hmmm. So let's say that bexy has been taking a while to rise recently and tonight failed to rise at all.

Does one panic or does one logically think through all the minor things that it might be? Are there any minor things that it might be?

Who's idea was it to get a Citroen in the first place?

Any rivers of green blood?

Not that I can see in the pitch black at this time.

Check for a split in the pipe that leads from the LHM reservoir to the pump, also that the clips are tight on that pipe as well.Or maybe the pump itself has failed.

Are there any relevant warning lights? Does the power steering work?

Posted

The STOP light is on and there's no power steering either- this points to the pump I guess.. Or Could it just be the belt??

Posted

Aaah god I'm such a noob at this LHM stuff

HURRAH! Just a deteriorated belt.

Good stuff! Complete Hydraulic failure is usually a fairly easy thing to identify. Anything that doesn't result in green puddles is a result really!

Well, another MOT has been achieved with only a driveshaft gaiter and a foglight needed. Result!

I really must get round to completing the quality* ICE install and fixing the speedo- it's been over a year and I've just got used to driving without one.

My search for a less sexy and less practical vehicle has gone splendidly. I no longer need the space and economy that this offers, and tbh I'm bored of the flocks of fawning admirers that follow me everywhere until they have to stop for fuel and I don't.

Apologies for the lack of photos, I'll get some promptly, but I'm too excited about my new wheels and I need to get things moving NOW!!

It's done plenty of miles, around 250,000, but it's been exceptionally well looked after by the bloke who had it before me (actually he deserves a mention for being THE NICEST PERSON I HAVE EVER MET if that's not too "last owner was son of a banker". Sometimes he texts me to ask me how it's going- you'll have to write me letters to pass on to him) - it's got LOADS of history, plenty of it from Chevronics, including doing all that nasty stuff under the rear subframe, cambelt, water pump etc. It has an MOT until July '17.

I've never had any LHM troubles, though it's fairly quick to sink at the rear (2-3 hours maybe?) so you could treat it to a new accumulator perhaps.

There's a tiny bit of rust on each rear wheel arch, a bit of bumper trim missing from the back bumper, and lots of lovely laquer peel on the roof and boot. Apart from that it seems solid!

The interior is really good, no rips or tears and it doesn't really show its miles at all. There's no squeaks or rattles, apart form a bit of loose boot trim which I need to get a little clip for.

My coolant light scare of last year turned out to be a dodgy connection, as I discovered one massively wet day when each puddle I went through brought on the temp warning light for about 20 seconds.. Coolant system is great, had a new fan after that scare and the rad is new too. (unobtanium).

It's got great tyres- new on the front 5000 miles ago (Hankooks- they got good reviews) and the rears are good pirellis. Had the tracking done at that time too.

Because I'm feeling generous, I'll leave in a PURE DAB radio with bluetooth/USB/Iphone compatibility. It'll need a DAB aeriel if you want to listen to DAB though. I've also upgraded the speakers to Alpine components.

So what's not to love?

  • Speedo and consequently odometer doesn't work. It's been like this for about 18 months- needs a new cable I think but I just haven't got around to it. I tend to just follow other cars and it doesn't bother me at all. I have a good idea of where 70/80mph is in 5th on the rev counter and 30 in 4th. For 50 average speed traps I reccomend follwing the slowest vehicle, or, GASP, fixing the speedo. Passes the MOT no bother.
  • ABS light is intermittent. Luckily it never comes on straight away so it's been through 2 MOT's like this with me and a couple more with the guy before me.
  • The boot doesn't lock with central locking- you need to fix it or lock it from the inside.
  • When you wind the drivers window all the way down and back up again it slips forward towards the front of the car  a little and creates a little gap at the top which is noisy at motorway speeds- you need to push the window back into the seal a bit and all is hunky dory.
  • One rear exhaust hanger could do with a little weld if I'm being very fussy, although it's held the exhaust in place with no probs for 18 months or so.
  • There's an impressive crack in the windscreen- starts in the middle at the top and snakes down a bit- used to creep a bit but it's remained static for ages now. Passed the MOT like that.
  • My ex has the other set of keys. I'll try and get those back for you.

Oh, and Lucas pump- never been run on veg. But you get OMG50MPG without trying.

Located in NE London. I'll be away with work for a couple of weeks from the 19th and mega busy this week so apologies in advance if I'm the worlds worst salesman.

Talking of salesmen, £500 and it's yours.

Tempting! Did we decide that it is, in fact, turbocharged in the end?

I sort of need to get back in a turbo BX, my commute is so dull in the Xantia and I'm not used to being overtaken

Hahaha, indeed it seems to be boosting fine- i just think I went through a period of expecting more after driving my dad's modern dizzler.

Has a noticeable sprightliness above 2500rpm.

I'm pretty sure I am gonna have this actually instead of fixing my leaky Xantia, which looks like it's gonna cost me £400. How soon do you need it gone?

That's cool, well either we could do something hurried this week, or once I'm back on the 2nd Oct. Either. Actually it sounds silly but I could do with moving a mattress with it at the start of Oct. So either really!

I'm away from the 19th- 2nd.

I should point out that I have had four pints and half a bottle of very acceptable Bordeaux, so let me PM you tomorrow when I've taken stock, but I reckon this will be a goer even in the cold light of day

No worries. Other than mixing the grape and the grain.

Should have listened to the old saying: beer and wine and you'll feel fine, wine and beer and you'll buy a Citroën

When drunk, sometimes it's good to do something upon which you can pin the inevitable abject regret, otherwise it can sort of hang around worryingly, causing you to become concerned about all other aspects of your life.

Very happy that this is more money than I actually have. Phew!
