That TagAZ Aquila is absolutely mind-bending, and I suspect it would sell like hotcakes in the UK to a certain element of society who love flashiness but have absolutely no appreciation of quality.

 

You know the kind, people with a Ministry of Sound stereo as their living room centrepiece. People like those seen lugging 42-inch off-brand plasmas under their arms during the London riots. People who shop around for the best price before getting a tattoo using toxic Chinese ink in a basement.

 

E.G, today's middle England.

I once rode in the similarly powered Hanomag which had this sort of payload and glacial performance. B series found its way into an International delivery van too with predictable results.

I once rode in a friend's similar Hanomag which also had this sort of payload, B series engine and glacial performance. At about this time International Harvester were casting around for a motor to suit their Mighty Mite delivery van and must have felt that the B series power unit fitted to the diminutive Nash Metropolitan would be perfect. The whole concept of 'executive ' 2 litres was arguably created by Rover and Triumph with their 2000s. Of course Ford hijacked the name and even the initial E with the Corsair and Cortina.

How do you top that? Well, Rover of course had the VIP towards the end of P6 production but Triumph went more logically through the company hierarchy,.

The Triumph 2000 MD, I'd never heard of it and it was possibly only for Australia and New Zealand , at least that's where any survivors seem to be.

I don't know if these were instead of PI s in the Colonies, due to the fact the Pi didn't like the heat

Given the prospect of keeping two strombergs vaguely synchronised is mildly intimidating, balancing 3 strikes me as being in the same territory as patting your head while rubbing your tummy and reciting the National Anthem.

Grumman had another go at the tiny van with a European engine, this time a VW Diesel. Failiure of course.

I passed a Toyota Noah on the motorway last week.

It was quite large, but I'm not convinced that there was enough room for two of all the animals (inc. dinosaurs) and there was no OLLI Snorkel so wouldn't have coped well in the floods.

I saw a Nissan estate on the way back from Scotland but can't remember the name for the life of me, had five or six letters and may have ended in an a I think. About primera size or bigger but not one I had heard of, had vertical lights down either side of the tailgate.

 

Any ideas what it was?

Sounds like a Nissan Stagea. Essentially a Skyline in an estate body I think.

That's the one! Looked pretty good and being an estate skyline should be a bit of a hoot I would guess. It was doing my nut in trying to remember the name.

Location .... correct

RHD... yes they came in that style, engine and driver on the right. With a steel weight on the left to keep them upright.

Clues.. not read very well. So here are a few.  The engine cover lid handle, the engine cover hinges, the hubcaps and to top it off the unseen bit is 1000 cc with the radiator to the right.

also the owners description of driving it : heart in mouth like a gocart.

Tbh I know very little about them just that I once read something about them being three wheels here but four in Europe, and elsewhere it seems too.

Its a Mini underneath, possibly backwards.

 

Not quite correct, It is all Isetta except a Mini mechanicals rear mounted and pushing.   :shock:

Four wheel Isettas were available in the UK, and, I think, were built at Brighton (the wheels are so close together that at a cursory glance they look like three wheelers). The BMW 600 is the more obviously 4 wheeled bubble car, but are longer than an Isetta and only have a superficial "Isetta" look.

..not sure Isetta's claim to be "Cheapest car in the world to buy and run" would stand up to very close scrutiny !     Excellent reading that advert :mrgreen: ..when the front bumper and new ratchet-type hand-brake are a "Plus" model item ! I wonder what the grab handle pulled ?

I know the four wheeler didn't qualify for UK's motorcycle road-tax rating, but the three wheeler did.  Likewise, the prototype Lomax 3-wheeler kit car (do I need to go n' wash my mouth out for saying 'kit car' on this website) was actually a four wheeler with it's Citroen A-series suspension rear arms turn inwards (rear wheels very close together), so I redesigned it to be a three wheeler.

Hyundai Iqoniq, never heard of one until today where it was in front of me at the lights. Guess it's their answer to the Prius, only not so shockingly ugly

Having travelled many miles in an Isetta I can report that you could get three on the bench seat, but you would have to be very friendly.

 

The Isetta was actually an Italian car (made by Iso); but they licensed the design to several manufacturers, including, for our particular correspondence, BMW.

 

BMW refined the design, importantly replacing the original 2 stroke engine with their own 4 stroke (a modified version of the R25/3 motorbike engine). It was BMW's modification which was built in Britain at the old Brighton Locomotive works, under licence from BMW, they all carried the BMW badge. I might be wrong here, but I think they started with the 4 wheeled version but it only became popular when the 3 wheeler was introduced (due to the motorcycle licence loophole).

This weird looking thing from Hyundai, a 2012 Genesis, that has a 3.8 litre engine! The Mrs keeps seeing one around Newmarket

These things are fucking vile. Rear end is exactly the same as the new Civic, which isn't a looker either. Toyota have not made a decent looking car in ages.
