It took 80 days to repair my e208 of doom. They were waiting for the new traction battery to come from........ France. Waiting for spares is not just a Chinese phenomenon.

It probably had to come from China to France first.

And that's not a typo, the name really is Healy with only one E. No connection with the Healey family, just a tribute by a totally unrelated company.

For the sake of 1.9cm I would definitely rather be in the original (or 2014) Smart over the Microlino.

The Smart is surprisingly strong.

We've had Iran's Khodro before, remember the Renault 5 on a Kia Pride chassis? Well it turns out they also made stretched limos for the 8th summit of the 'Organisation of Islamic Countries' conference in Tehran in 1997.

GAC GS3 it says. Don't even know where the plates are from

^^^^^ That'll be the amusingly named Trumpchi GAC GS3, from, you've guessed it, China. From the front it looks like this -

image.png.29775c2c2db1dfc64db855637e8076fb.png

The registration number is interesting, it looks like Trumpchi's main market is in Asia (Malaysia, Philippines, Indonesia and Brunei) but looking at the photo I'm guessing we're in or close to Europe - the other vehicles and the graffiti. It does have the look of a diplomatic plate. Turkey has numbers similar to this and so does Tajikistan.

Ha! You saw it in person!
It's been on gumtree a while. Didn't realise you were in this part of the world too.

One (well, three) from last night - the BYD E6Y. Possibly the only ones in the UK?20250713_231830.jpg.2e373b32dc25bc094994ab8510f423ff.jpg

I’ve seen pictures of dead ones with earlier registrations than that - like a 12 plate or so. Think some were imported to see whether they were suitable as cabs. In short, they weren’t.

Yes folks, it's the Build Your Dreams Sealion

I mean honestly, cars used to be called macho stuff like Wildcat and Interceptor.

Now we've got the Suzuki Splash and BYD Dolphin. Next we'll have the Vauxhall Dribble and Peugeot Pigeon

I feel sorry the driver of every byd I've seen, if this is their idea of a dream car, then the human race deserves to die out.

It's 2016 and we're in Qingdao, Shandong Province, China. This is an Audi 100-based Hongqi Mingshi. Audi is the joint-venture partner of Hongqi's parent company FAW in China so it makes sense for them to make this. Also, coincidently, Qingdao used to be a leased territory under German rule between 1898 and 1914 (when it was known as Kiautschou).

Mobilize Duo/Bento, a replacement for the Twizy. Sum up: A renult in all but name made in Morocco. The Bento is a Duo but has a cargo area and no rear seat.

Morocco seems to be monopolising slightly rubbish French derived quadricycles - the Ami is made there as well.

I never knew there was a 4x4 version of the Alfa Romeo 33 - the Permanent 4 - until I saw this one going home from the National Alfa Day this afternoon.

But what's this? 15 minutes later, here's another one!

HML says there are two taxed so this could be the country's entire roadworthy population of them!

Anyone ever heard of a Beaumont?

ABW728F.jpg.1b0a3bfe0c4b3e1190cd9e4cc25097b2.jpg

ABW728F1.jpg.d894672f508beb20b0ee477be8a0dabe.jpg

It's a Canadian domestic market version of the Chevy Chevelle, also assembled from CKD kits in South Africa (of which this is one, hence RHD). I bet there aren't many of these in the UK.

A nice looking car without the oversized wheels.

Pulled up at some traffic lights behind a BYD, on the back it said " Build Your Dreams" - think he/she/they should avoid cheese late at night!

Apparently the letters actually mean 'Begin Your Depression'. I can see why.
