Related to that Toyota Tamaraw up there I saw a magnificently named Toyota Stallion pick up (bakkie) yesterday.   South African built version apparently.

Fun fact:  this was actually supposed to be called the Toyota Starion, but due to a misunderstanding during a phone call between Toyota's head office in Tokyo and their South African counterparts... oh, wait.

We had these in America, where it was known as the Scion xB.

 

Scion was conceived as Toyota's "youth" brand, intended to appeal to young, trendy, fashionable types.  Except Toyota soon discovered young people don't have any money for cars, so most xBs got bought by greying empty-nesters looking for a practical shopping trolley.  The tall, upright body made entry and egress easy for OAPs with aching joints and bad backs.  As to why Toyota thought young people would somehow be interested in a car that looked like the box it was shipped in is anybody's guess.

 

This failed marketing strategy is why Toyota USA eventually killed off the whole Scion brand.
