strange car stories

Just a quick 1.

I remember a story my dad telling me about a Yugo he used to own. In which he said umpteen times he would look in rearview mirror and he would catch an elderly woman sitting in back, when he looked again she was gone. He got rid of it not long after.

Anyone got any weird stories to do with cars etc.

I had a Granada hearse in Ireland, that was built from a saloon that was severely rear ended.

Allegedly, an entire family was wiped out in the incident, save for the father, who was driving.

Sometimes at night, when I drove by myself, I could feel the presence of the woman on the

passenger seat and the children where the rear seat would have been.

Also, even people not into esoteric stuff meanwhile believe, that my Rover is possessed.

When driving my Zafira, I often see hordes of really fit MILF waving at me when I look in the rear view mirror.

I had a triumph 2000 that had dodgy electrics and the lights would sometimes turn themselves on and off at random times.

I told my mates it was because it was the previous owner had died in the car which was a great story to use as it saved me from having to keep doing the driving back from the pub on a Friday or Saturday night.

No one actually died in the car as it was just temperamental BL electrics.

I once had a car which I thought was sentient. It seemed to pull to the left all the time and try and make me drive places I didn't want to go. Sometimes when I wanted to go somewhere it wouldn't start and I would have to catch the bus, just because it didn't want to go where I was going.

One day I got up to go to work and it was gone, it had vanished.

I then found a letter saying my car was possessed and was in Horsham. It must have just driven off and gone there on its own. I was amazed.

Then I re-read the letter and saw it had actually been repossessed.

Turns out it was just a bog standard car. Boy did I feel stupid

People would express sadness and anger that my Alfetta saloon had been so nastily 'keyed' across the front bonnet.

I had to explain that I slipped one icy morning on our steep drive and dragged the ignition key across the bonnet as I slid past the car.

Whenever I consider selling my Astra something breaks. This week the headlight went out. Changed te bulb, fuse, pulled off all the spade connectors and cleaned them up, still wouldn't work. Was about to shift it and get another car out to use and it started to work again. Time before that it was the thermostat, radiator before that.

One time I went to pick up my girlfriend from the airport in my old polo genesis.

I took her for lunch nearby and when I came back to the car, all our possessions had been searched and a couple of presents torn open. I even had a couple of bags of cat litter in the back for my mum, they had been stabbed. Nothing had been taken whatsoever, including valuables.

The car was locked when I left it and when I returned. Freaked me right out that did.

I used to have an old j4 van that used to regularly turn into a pub car park...........

Had a few cars and motorbikes in my time that always stutter, hesitate and backfire anywhere between Hardwick hall and stainsby mill. Something about them back roads that gives me the creeps. Even to this day I refuse to drive through there in the dark. After my grandad passed away my dad took on his 340 variomatic. Run sweet as a nut anywhere but always cut out at the bottom of my grandads street when ever we took it to visit my grandmother. Never worked that one out either.

I was once on the lash with a Police motorcycle trainer and he swore blind there were roads which were haunted.

The sump on my Rover 820 rusted from the inside out, which was puzzling as it was not one of the many specified with factory-fitted coolant/water mixing. And the electrics on my Renault 25 had a poltergeist controlling them - particularly the automatic gearbox - but I suspect that was because it was fifteen years old and had done 215,000 miles, rather than because it was actually possessed. Also, because RENAULT.

Nothing truly spooky / X-files-ish, though.

I've always had some kind of sixth sense when I know a normally reliable car isn't going to start before I even turn the key.

The engine in my Astra van died a spectacular death last night on the way the Swaffam. By a strange coincidence I had assembled the engine crane that I had recently bought. Maybe just maybe the engine knew that this was a good time to commit hari kari. Or maybe it's just because it's a Vauxhall.

A little while back I was driving to work in the Beetle. I start at 3am and it was a chilly misty night, the back window was translucent with condensation on account of no heated rear glass. I was sat at a red light just up from where I join the main road down to the ring road, waiting for nothing as there's very little traffic about at that time.

I caught sight of the shadows of two figures in the rear view mirror, crossing the road behind me. Probably a couple of students still staggering home in their shirt sleeves in the freezing cold, I think. They make up about 75% of pedestrians in that part of town at that time of night, a further 20% are early shift workers waiting for their lift, the remaining 5% being hookers. I glance around to see what sort of state they're in, but there's no-one there. I look over my other shoulder thinking they must have doubled back to the other side of the road. The pavement and the park beyond were deserted. I turn right around in my seat and squint through the rear window fearing some lunatic stood right behind the car in the middle of the road, but I can't see anything. I am certain I've seen two figures in the mirror! What the fuck?

The lights go green and I speed to work as fast as my forty horsepowers will carry me. Properly freaked me out did that.

When I was 17 I once tried to drive from the New Forest to Falkirk and back without sleeping (in a Renault 4 van).   Got as far as Penrith on the return leg on a deserted A road some time after midnight when I saw a sheep with red eyes in the middle of the road and literally stood the Renner on end to avoid ploughing straight into it.  I got out to shoo the bloody thing away and it wasn't there.....A total figment of my tired imagination and something I have heard about since but was completely unaware that it could happen at the time.   Shit me right up, I pulled over and went to sleep a few miles later down the road.

the strangest thing to happen to me car wise was when i was messing about with my mk1 sierra and mrs fordperv joked saying you spend too much money on that piece of crap, i then went to move it and it wouldn't start it just cranked over, what was weird is it always started and i hadn't touched the engine so there was no excuse, i said to mrs fordperv apologize, she laughed and said sorry then the car started, other than that many times i have got in and smelt a citrus type smell even though there is no air freshener, also its surrounded by bad luck

Many years ago I had a girlfriend who lived in Kirton on Lindsey while I lived in Scunthorpe. I used to race myself every night after dropping her home along the top road and as I had a Mini Cooper 'S' I was THE FASTEST MAN ALIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!  One night I was overtaken by a car like I was stood still and so close it made the Mini rock on its suspension. It was gone past and away so quick I couldn't tell what it was FFS and I knew what every car was back then. About a mile further down the road I suddenly saw a great explosion/fireball go up a few corners ahead and knew it was the car that had just passed me...

I searched for ages but there was absolutely fook all along that entire stretch of road....

I gave that road a complete miss for many months and used the bottom road instead. Proper freaked me out did that!

Back in the early 90s I worked as lithographic printer and the early morning shift started at 6 in the morning and one of my work colleagues would travel from London to Tunbridge wells via the A21 and on this particular bright summers morning he got in an hour late.

When he got into work he looked white as a sheet and told us he had seen a ghost but at the time he thought he had witnessed a suicide off one of the bridges along the route so he stopped the car and phoned the police who came out.

He parked up on the hard shoulder to look to see if he could find a body but could find nothing and when the police came out he was told he wasn't the first person this had happened too.

He was told also in close proximity there had been reports of someone walking along the road and the person would just disappear into thin air plus where the road had been built up over the years the person seen walking had lost the bottom of their legs as if walking on the older surface of the road.

He had a really nice 280 Capri by the way.

Also there's story of a particular spot on Bluebell hill near Maidstone that you can pick up a ghostly hitchhiker..

As you did in those days my parents went to a Round Table dinner dance in the late 1950s.

Back in their Standard 8 on the way home my mother could smell a terrible stench from the back of the car. Looking back she could make out the silhouette of a man on the rear seat.

She hissed at my Dad what she had seen but Dad had had a few lemonades and ignored her. My mother admitted she was beginning to be grabbed with a panic that it was a plot to kill her when Dad realised what was going on as he reversed up their drive. They got out and he locked the car and at 2 in the morning he knocked up various neighbours to help him tackle the bloke (unsurprisingly there was little enthusiasm). When he got back the vagrant had let himself out and disappeared into the night.

The next Round Table do didn't go too well for my mother either.

She got home to find a frog skewered onto one of her stiletto heels.

When I was a nipper we were coming back from the Lakes when our then BX GTI cut out dead when passing the cemetary in Haydon Bridge?

Pops walked off into the village to find help (was just before 23:00 and very spooky as fuck) leaving us kids in the car.

I was so scared that I literally had to get out the car and have a shit on a wall, an action which I was convinced would enrage evil spectors further. Pops returned with some volunteer firemen who had been rolling out of the pub. They pushed us to the fire station, which they opened up for us and stuck the kettle on. They told us kids some stories about other cars that had stopped dead at the cemetary (the cunts). I couldn't take any more and blurted out "I'm sorry I poo'd on the wall!!!" which kind of killed the spooky vibe. The AA attended the fire station and diagnosed a fucked alternator. His first words on arrival were "well at least you didn't break down outside the cemetary! I'm forever attending there and it freaks me out"

Wooooo-ooooooo!!!!

I never have any problems with ghosts, perhaps because I drive a white 1959 Cadillac ambulance with the registration number ECTO1

A few years back we had a red Astra van that was soon named Christine; it had a death wish. When it was less than a month old it was involved in an accident, it really should have been written off, but the insurers eventually decided to reshell it.  A few months later, after its rebuild, someone reversed into the front, so new wings, bumper, bonnet etc. were fitted. Then a few months after that someone drove into the back of it, necessitating another repair. Nobody wanted to drive it as it seemed to attract accidents, so it was sold to a neighbour, who rolled it and wrote it off within months.

I had a really bad nightmare once. When i woke up and looked outside the nightmare was reality. The MK4 blue Golf was indeed on the drive  :-o
