After all this you have to keep us informed on the next chariot, I know how you feel when you have a very limited budget for wheels but with respect, we ain't going to get much for our bucks really, I always look at it as all I can afford is some one elses trouble and they must be getting rid for some reason.

Good luck and fingers crossed you come across a good un.

I suppose I've got to admit I'm too old now to be taking on major work on cars.

I just don't like laying under them any more, and I've got too used to oil and water levels that stay constant in between changes.

I used to. Had heads off, engines out. Full exhaust systems etc. etc.

Now I try to limit myself to service items really. Oil changes, brakes blah, blah.

The thought of investigating that water loss with the Previa just didn't float my boat at all.

I hope it doesn't prove too much hassle for the new owner, but I did explain what could be involved before he bought it. I just wish the bloke who sold it to me had done the same.

Still, the chap bought it from me at what I'd have got for scrap, and there's a big chance it'll live on, so all good.

Looking forward to my next purchase now.

Well I'll be buggered.

The lad who bought it has just text me.

It's just passed the mot.

Good luck to him, just glad I didn't sell him a total dog.

He's having it pressure tested later.

I thought it might, considering the recent love it had had (new brakes etc).

That's nice of him to let you know, too.

Which was the root of the matter, at the end of the day.

Seller honesty FTW.

I know how you feel about rolling around under cars 'at our age' it something I try to wiggle out of especially as winter approaches and as luck would have it mot time is winter so my local garage seems to be getting more work from me these days but only the big jobbies that I really can not be bothered with.

Have you seen that lovely Rover 75 for sale on here, only £300 notes and auto? I see you like big engine ovlovs so why not?

I hope I get it. Seriously.

You seem to have a real problem with me BJ.

Time to pack it in, it's not in the spirit of this forum, is it?

Oh lighten up FFS! Why would I have a problem with you? I was just taking the piss, don't take it so personally.

Weighing in a working car at the first hint of aggro isn't in the spirit od this forum either! :-)

Better luck with the next one anyway.

Didn't sound very funny to me.

I didn't want to scrap it and I'm chuffed someone got it and it seems like it's going to be an easy fix. I told the buyer today when he text me.

If it was just the rad cap, I'd be kicking myself right now tbh. When you are buying at the autoshite end of the market though, it is mega rare for anything to be fault free

It's very hard to explain, but every time I looked out the front window at the Previa, I felt hatred. I didn't want to be in it , near it it or work on it.

I think it's because the seller bumped it up so much before I bought it. I had a very good rapport with him. He seemed very genuine. The coach journey from London Victoria to Ramsgate was absolutely awful, about three and a half hours. I thought I'd got a bargain Previa. When I realised it was losing water, I just went cold on it. Didn't want to be near it. I'd had a couple of Previas before, one I bought off the blue forum and that was doing exactly the same, although I didn't realise what it might be at the time. A mate at work badgered me to sell it to him, which I eventually did, and it turned out to be the head gasket. He got shot PDQ. The other one I owned was a cracker, the oil and water levels never moved, and I think that was what I was expecting this time.

Like I said, it's very hard to explain.

The lad who bought it is very happy with it, but I did stress to him about the water loss.

I really hope it is something simple, I'll be very happy for him, although I've heard nothing since he told me he was getting it pressure tested.

I took on board all the replies to this post, apart from the snide ones, and thank you for your support, with exceptions. I knew what I was going to do was extreme, but I'd made my mind up. I was going to bridge it on Tuesday morning, but the call from the buyer saved it. If he hadn't of had it Tuesday night, it would have gone over the bridge on Wednesday morning.

Anyway, onwards and upwards. I think my next buy will take some of the sting out of this one.

I understand that feeling when you just turn cold on certain cars you own. It doesn't matter if there was a switch on the dash marked "broke/fixed" you wouldn't press it because you just don't care. Difficult to explain to someone else and it does look, from the outside, nonsensical but it happens.

It's happened to me before in cars a few times, Saab 900 turbo springs to mind. That was an easy fix but I just turned on it a week after buying it and sold it for what I payed for it straight away without touching it. No rhyme, no reason, just was. I'd had numerous ones before and loved 'em.

It happens, you move on and buy the next...

Inspired by t'other thread in which purplebargeken considered a Chrysler PT Cruiser and then bought a Triumph, I'm sure the Previa-replacement will be something v similar*. I'm looking forward to pictures of the Fiat X1/9 when it arrives.

Thanks FBP7, someone who understands. It is very hard getting it across on here.

The next Tetley purchase is a world away from people carriers, not French or Italian, but rather looking forward to collecting it tomorrow.

It is actually true what you say about going cold on something. I'd been after a 75 for a while and thought I'd won the Lotto when I saw Ben's (Wilko220) car, lovely thing it is. Drives lovely, the interior is to die for but as time went on I just lost the love for it. I have no idea why as it is a really decent car.

Anyway, am looking forward to seeing what comes next.

I also hope it is something simple for the Previa, as I recall being gutted when the neighbours diesel one lunched itself as they were going to let me have it.

Indeed - i'd echo some of that. The green Fronterror i got from Ipswich way - I came to loath the sight of the damn thing over a week or so. me, of all people. A Frontera. Bloke who has it now is chuffed to bits.

I had a P Reg Xantia 1.9TD SX and I loved it. Then I made the classic mistake 'if this car was newer, a bit quicker and an estate it would be perfect'. The W Reg HDi 110 SX I bought was certainly all of these things apart from perfect. I just never bonded with it and seriously considered weighing it in at eight years old. In the end I swapped it for the old one with not much cash my way. It has now been scrapped and I'm glad.

A trip to r.welfare's abode today saw me drive away a rather bargainous Honda Accord auto.

It drove faultlessly from down Hampshire way to Tetley towers in Rainham, Essex.

Thank you Richard, you've gone a long way to restoring my faith in sellers.

It was nice meeting you and Mrs Richard.

No problem Dave, hope it does you well. It's certainly been a good car to me.

More accord info please.

Tomorrow if that's ok.

Been a rather knackering day.

Got soaked walking from Victoria underground station to Victoria coach station.

Bit of a grim day weather wise, but more than made up for by the Accord.

I'll get some piccies tomorrow.
