Any petrol V8, and especially Sam Glover's Chaika!

Audi 5 cylinder is still my favorite.

Although this is growing on me :-D .

:) I was going to say, I like the sound of the odd-fire PRV V6.

It's not just engines that make a great noise.

If we're allowing things that aren't cars...

Scania V8.

Yes but has to be an old 140, 141 or 142 really.

My old V8 series 2a sounded great. Straight pipe to a proper cherry bomb silencer.

The muted warble that an Escort RS Turbo has, at light throttle and low revs.

My 5.7 Hemi when I stamp on the loud pedal :D

Rolls-Royce Merlin or Griffon (for the not-a-car nomination).

A mildly tuned flathead V8 at full chat.

Anything with 8 cylinders seems to make a GR8 noise (pathetic pun I know) but especially the Gardner 8LXB. I also love a screaming Detroit 2-stroke and the throaty roar of a Leyland Leopard. If we're talking cars, I can't help grinning at the farty burble of a Morris Minor.

When I worked on airport fire trucks the main vehicles were Gloster Saro Meteors (V8 Detroit) and Javlins (V12 Detoit) both super and twin turbo-charged which did sound very well but were just simply out done by the over fueled Cummins 903 fitted to the spare Nubian Major.  Howling this through the Heatrow tunnel was worth the tinitus.

Ah, the piercing scream of the Paxman Valenta - it makes the ground vibrate and your hair stand on end!

The peugeot V6 sounds good from outside the car and pathetic from the inside (too quiet) unless it's being thrashed.

Most V8s sound good. Ferraris are the exception - they sound like a precocious toddler crying.

To all non car, train type sound aficionados out there, all I say is Deltic.

^^ Deltic. If a Valenta makes the ground shake, then a Deltic makes the whole bloody planet shudder! As Graham Norton is to Godzilla. No point in posting a sound - no known mike can capture a big Deltic properly.

and ignoring the fact the driver is clearly a prick, and a moron...
