Citroen XM - was JohnK's steed

:-D  Go on, admit it - you didn't do any other camera angles to intercut because nothing can persuade you out of the driving seat.  It's a joy to see a chap so in love with his car  8)

I really do like it, it must be said. I don't really have enough patience to do more angles, especially when I'm not earning 'owt for doing it!

Anyway, here's a murky shot of the fleet this morning. Nice pair.

I like the 'over the driver' shots - very Miami Vice-esque. Glad to see that you're getting on so well with the XM, she is indeed a lovely car!

That's not murky, that's soft focus.  Get a room, you two.

(Only the crumbliest, flakiest...)

Just give the lens a clean! My phone does that every few weeks after a build up of dust, pocket fluff, ground up Polo mints from 2008 in my coat pocket and general shit.

As for the video, I'm planning on doing on when I review some modern shit, hopefully soonish...New car, old Top Gear style*.

I have a xm book if you fancy a read??? Send me your address by pm and i will get it posted.

I only remembered I had it because as soon as I watched your video I thought "I must go on ebay and look at xm's NOW" and that book popped up.

Same as this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/citroen-xm-book-by-martinez-sauzay-hardback-car-book-vgc-/381027506304?pt=UK_CarParts_Vehicles_Manuals_Litterature_ET&hash=item58b7025880

Soz no instant link but I am on a Ipad, and it does my head in.

Wowzer. I shall craft a PM muchos quickly!

You were 10ft away from two copies of that book on Sunday.  Hindsight is a marvellous thing...  ;)

Aye. In an ideal world, I'd've carted away a lot more spares than one strut top too, but I'm struggling for storage space as it is. Thanks though!

Nice to see real love in action. If you sort the spheres, you'll only use more diesel. Btw, how are you sure the hydractive's working, if the ride's less than supple?

I expected a B&W silent movie.

I IZ DISAPPOINT!

It was b&w, apart from the trees seen through the windows.

As I bounced down a farm track yesterday, it did occur to me that it might be in default mode - ie sport. Problem is, if that is the case, it's still much more comfortable than the Rover was! Maybe it needs a Lexia session.

I think the layby you stop in at the end of the vid is where Dad and I met Breadvan on our way to SFCymru . But I could be wrong .

Good vid though

Bit of a downer today. Water pouring through the internal light fitting! A common issue. Either it's a screw in the sunroof assembly that has no sealant around it, or it's the aerial fitting (which I have already treated to Cap'n Tolleys' Creeping Crack Cure). Odd that there was no leakage during the horrific rain, hail and general watery chaos of earlier in the week. Today, it's just that horrible soaks-everything drizzle.

Or its your sunroof cassete leaking, which pools and drains down the cog from the motor, through the housing and through the light fitting, exactly the issue I had. Removing the motor cures it, since the water cant run anywhere/possibly goes elsewhere. I then got the tiger seal out...

It drips onto the keypad irrc which could have amusing* consequences...

Why not simply tune to 171m long wave to check for the electrovalves' operation? And then perhaps blowing the two centre spheres up to pressure if all's well? Beyond the earthing problems of the early cars the system is fairly robust. Maybe a ring to the specialist it came from, to see if he knew of any hydractive probs?

On unmade tracks, hydractive can be very jolty if the system is fooled into thinking you're 'hooning' and cuts out the middle spheres coz of excess/sudden wheel/body movement. On rutted/washboard/poor roads loads of people find the system a little sharp even when all the spheres are good, which is when they start experimenting with sphere size, pressure and damping.

Trying to fix leaks from the inside usually just diverts the water somewhere else.  :-(

I like a working sunroof. Fixing it is my only valid option. I've already improved matters greatly - it was leaking through the glass as the rubber seal had lifted on one edge. Loads of crack cure has stopped that one, and the headliner is now actually dry where it was soaked before. This is new. Thankfully, mine doesn't have the stupid keypad thing, so it's 'only' leaking on the Hydractive suspension switch, electric mirror switch and gearknob.

Thanks!

Well, the drizzle stopped sufficiently for me to have a bit of a gander. Hard to say where it was coming from really, but there's a torx screw right in the middle of the tray that appear to do nothing but limit movement of the anti-buffeting strip. I pulled that out and the end was all algae-coloured. Smeared a load of sealant over that and the motor screws. Will see if the situation improves.

It's brightening up a bit now, so maybe I'll try lubricating a couple of key spots on the clutch system to see if I can at least get rid of the horrible creak. Mind you, leaning over a wet car is never fun...

I walk past this old girl most days to work and its stuck in an old rail yard.

I do see the guy who owns it from time to time and he's a smashing bloke and I know he's thinking of getting rid of it as he hasn't used it for some time as you can see from the pictures.

if you want I could have a word with him next time I see him as it maybe good for some spares or if your very brave to put back on the road.

Sunroof hasn't leaked a drop overnight. Ace! I've removed the driver's door card to try and cure an annoying rattle. That didn't work. I think it's the upper trim. Still makes me smile though.

Sodding sunroof! Still leaking. Apparently, they were only fitted for the UK market, which is perhaps why they're crap. Water is somehow getting past the inner rail. Water shouldn't really get anywhere near it. I've no idea where this is going wrong. I've never, ever, given in and sealed up a sunroof - it's against my nature. My nature is being sorely tested because otherwise, the car is great!

Is the aerial secure to the roof?

Drive around with the light console removed, your climate control wont work on auto but youll be able to see where its dripping from!
