SambaS Posted September 21, 2014 Posted September 21, 2014 I've worked myself up to a point where I just have to have another. Much less ubiquitous than the last time I looked for one, there are hardly any for sale! Here is number one, Daihatsu Charade Turbo "5dr petrol turbo"I was still in school when I got that, swapped a Volvo 240 Estate for it then bragged about my Turbo a lot Wasn't very fast. Single cam 993cc 3 pot, unlike the twin cam GTti rocket pocket. laser wheels, brickwall, mat_the_cat and 1 other 4
dollywobbler Posted September 21, 2014 Posted September 21, 2014 I always liked these. They looked pretty stylish at a time when small hatchbacks typically didn't. Has to be three-pot obviously. Four-cylinder just wasn't as interesting. eddyramrod and brickwall 2
Mr_Bo11ox Posted September 21, 2014 Posted September 21, 2014 My mate had a shonky diesel one, which he ran on cherry or central heating oil. Cost him about £3 to drive to Spain. Lacquer Peel, cobblers, 500tops and 6 others 9
Timewaster Posted September 21, 2014 Posted September 21, 2014 I always lusted after a GTti as a yoof. About 15 years ago I went to look at a cheap one for sale locally. Under the boot mat you could see the road. Chances of finding a solid one now?
SambaS Posted September 21, 2014 Author Posted September 21, 2014 This was number 2 a Charade CX Automatic 1.3. It was giffer owned and very low miles and I completely ruined it, with help from friends, one hit Spar with it mistaking one pedal for the other, and another friend hit a huge concrete block in a field. And that was the end of it. Have a lot of happy memories of this car, as it was one of the first I ever drove legally after passing my test. brickwall 1
Lukas Posted September 21, 2014 Posted September 21, 2014 The mother of a friend at school had such a Charade, a red three-door with 4WD. Typical Austria-Edition. I had the "pleasure" to be driven home in it from school (~ 12km) twice or three times a week. All I remember is, it was horribly loud inside. Very loud engine, the stones chipping in the wheelarches were very loud during wintertime, somehow it was just a tincan with an engine. But it drove everywhere, no matter how bad the snow and ice was. SambaS and brickwall 2
SambaS Posted September 21, 2014 Author Posted September 21, 2014 Number 3, Charade CX 1.3 manual. This was a PX bought from a Citroen dealer in Catterick. They had drawn PX your old banger all down the side, I liberated it for parts after the Spar incident. We had some fun in it first.
SambaS Posted September 21, 2014 Author Posted September 21, 2014 In 2006 I had a dilemma on my hands. Working for IBM at the time and in top form financially I was trying to figure out which to buy: I opted for Charade number 4, a GTti. Bought unseen in eBay auction. Had it trailered up from Birmingham as it was a non runner. While parked up at mates abattoir his brother put the window through, and took it to his scrapyard. I towwed it back, hoovered it out and quickly sold it. Never got it going but the lad I sold it to did, in a few hours. Pissed me right off that did. Conrad D. Conelrad 1
320touring Posted September 21, 2014 Posted September 21, 2014 I know its not the correct years, but in all other respects..win! http://www.gumtree.com/p/cars-vans-motorbikes/daihatsu-charade-13lxi-automatic/1081417549
SambaS Posted September 21, 2014 Author Posted September 21, 2014 Saldy no love for the 4th generation or G200, or Id have the black GTI from Gumtree already! So I'm in the market for one, current budget £200 but by Christmas I should have about £800. I doubt I'll spend that much but this one could do with being as good as I can find for the right price. Normally I just buy any old shite and don't think much of the months of work to get an MOT. But this Charade will be a keeper. Colour is unimportant, as is engine, as is trim level, although I don't really want the top spec GXI. It had color coded bumpers, I want black. And I want the CX seats........ Giffermatic would be as desirable as manual, I do t have much experience with a manual Charade. Maybe three Charades would be best!
SambaS Posted September 21, 2014 Author Posted September 21, 2014 This is where I want to be sat. CX trim. This was the Charade Turbo. How could anyone possibly get excited about a flippin Daihatsu Charade!! Hehe Final thoughts, I don't own a Japanese car. I don't own a Turbo (Cossie doesn't count as its engineless) I don't own a Charade and I don't own a diesel. So how many boxes would a Charade DT tick. brickwall, KruJoe and ShiteRider 3
mat_the_cat Posted September 21, 2014 Posted September 21, 2014 Do this to it and you'd tick another box! https://www.flickr.com/photos/james-msc/sets/72157594198736850/ KruJoe and brickwall 2

EssDeeWon Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 There is a red one local to me which is giffer owned with blue badges on show, usually see it outside the local shops which probably about the furthest its ever been. Has poundland wheel trims and is on a K reg. SambaS 1
