Second vote for x308. The Ex Rusty Lee jag was £700 so still leaves change for insurance.

If you get a yank for 1500 it'll be a slow hopeless shit box that probably broken.

Anything was the Rover v8 donk is either going to be too expensive on in a Land Rover.

That leaves japanese stuff. So Lexus IS400's and Soarers. Awesome cars but very subdued in the LS anyway.

Then ze germans.  BMW 5/730/40's and Merc 430's are well in your price. A 540i is the most exciting option as nearly 300 bhp in a 5 series makes them lively.

I also had a 4.2v8 Audi A8. That is an awesome car. 300bhp, quattro and loads of toys. Proper class and you should get one for your budget.

None of them are very snorty though unless you chop the back boxes off.

The best of these rarely go for more than £2k, plenty of nice ones around 1500 and horrible rusty ones for a lot less- even the worst looking ones seem not to get MOT threatening rust. They're properly quick and if you're lucky you'll find one with a rusty back box that sounds like a C63.

There's a Camaro on Retro Rides for £1500, but it needs way too much work.

But then there's this:

That's an awful lot of car for £1500 isn't it?

I thought these types of merc, SEC jobbies, went for mega money, or is that only, SL, is it? The big soft tops that wealthy women of a certain age were seen in during the 80's early 90's?

If you want to put a bit of graft in for your 1500 you can buy my 840ci.. needs the front suspension and steering crossroads changing (supplied in the boot)

No MOT or tax obvs..

Want level approaching yoghurt status on the SEC.

Just done an insurance quote on it;

Granted I don't live in swan eating country but that still pretty cheap to insure a 5.0l V8.

11 months mot, serviced, bit scabby and the a/c went in the bin but it sounds like a nascar so what more is needed :)

The best sounding V8 of all and every eva.

Price is around £1400.

That leaves £100 for petrol to drive it back from Bulgaria. Sorted*.

I would have agreed not too long ago, but I realised lately, that the best sounding V8 of EVAH is the Triumph Stag.

It sounds so sweet, that I'm tempted to put one in my Rover.

Yeah, don't worry, I take estimates of US engine sizes with a pinch of salt.  318 is a long-running engine used in very many applications, so should be easy to get bits for if needed.  Only three things worry me about that van.

1: will it need welding?  That'll be expensive, because I don't weld and don't have anywhere off-road to store it pending work.

2: is the camper bit watertight?  Looking at the interior pics, the roof could possibly be leaking, which would be bad news...

3: MrsR.  I could easily find myself singing soprano for the rest of my short, miserable, painful existence.

I woud feel like a bit of a pratt driving that 500SEC as its a bit too GANSTA with the gold trim and wheels etc.

Its a bit 'Wizard of OZ'. When I arrived everyone would be expecting someone big and scary but in reality the person that climbed out would be small and weedy.

That would involve owning a Jaguar. I don't do Jaguars I'm afraid

Disgraceful. Jags are excellent.

Disturbingly, that has attached itself to my Watch List.  I'm considering pre-booking an MoT for last-thing Monday afternoon, should be back from Preston in time for that!

looks nice that...........you could knit a new wiring loom with your left foot on the way home while MrsR prepares some arsenic tea in the spacious kitchen
