Land rover,range rover,sd1,rover p6

P5 would be nice but you'd struggle to get one for £1500

I don't think there is much choice in the UK is there? Some variant from Rover/British Leyland would probably be easiest to get a hold of but I understand that most of them are a bit poo if you want to actually go fast. Only others I can think of would be BMW, Jaguar or Lexus. I'd love to put a V8 in an old Volvo. In fact I think I know of a 240 sitting unused now that I think about it...

Bit over budget but how about this  :-D

X308?

I have to be able to insure it.

To a central Peterborough address.

Hrm, this may not be do-able.

What do those pillarless SEC Mercs go for?

735, 740, 535 or 540 BMW might squeak in under £1.5k - I had a 540 and it was tremendous fun. Loved to rev, and good low-down torque, too. It'd do 18mpg in local driving, 27mpg on motorway trips.

I assure you that a £1500 V8 Range Rover Classic would be disgusting.

In almost every way.

Sam Glover's Trans Am GTA.

Oh wait, that's a V7.

On the plus side, it's too wide to go into my back garden.

That hasn't been for sale for two years.

You could of had the E61 V8 of much rongness for just £2500.

80s Cadillacs crop up quite frequently and cheaply with the 4.1 or 4.5 v8. They are pretty shit though.

A late 90s Seville sts would be my pick. Should be able to get one for 1500 quid, the northstar V8 is excellent. Plenty of toys with it and they are pretty damned quick too.

Buy a Jag, join the VOC and insure through FJ as they recognise most Jaaags as 'classics'.

I asked FJ previously about their classic definition and it is a sliding scale.

Jags over 5  or 10 yrs could go on a classic policy with them, even modern MG's (10+yrs old iirc) could squeeze on a classic policy with them, but Rovers had to be over 20yrs old. So Rover 75, not classic MG ZT would go on classic policy.... Unless  they've changed things in the last year or so.

Anyway, a V8 for that money would be a Caddy Northstar for me.

That IS nice.

My 300E has the same problem.  I'm hoping a new idle control valve will cure it.  When I get off my fat arse...

That would involve owning a Jaguar. I don't do Jaguars I'm afraid.

Why could you not insure a Jaguar in Peterborough?

Have you seen Peterborough? They eat swans, man.

£2500 is not £1500.
