WTFIT?

What the fuck is that indeed. Travelling home this very evening saw me located behind a weird looking abortion of a vehicle. It looked like one of those weird, cheap quad bike things with a 50's pram body attached. It had a massively wanky 'private' plate and just looked like shit. The name read:  'Twizy'.

This just confirmed my original shite opinion tbh. It looked so stupid I had to google it. Imagine my surprise when it turns out that it is a near £7K electric Renner. WTF?

The mum of someone at work occasionally brings hers into the office car park, and up close they are massively flimsy. Apparently you rent the batteries from Renner.

Also I see one driving on the M3 occasionally   being dwarfed by trucks but they must be able to crack 50mph  on the flat.

The local Renault dealership use theirs to whizz up to Tesco on a Saturday sometimes.

The battery rent thing is true - it's partly why the 100% electric Renaults have such a low uptake, and the values have fallen 75% in two years.

Also, they're Renaults. Never seen an efFluence, seen a couple Zoes in London (which is also the only place I've seen Prius estates - mostly Uber taxis or something), and a few Twizys here and there.

Do they sell the Fluence here? I didn't think we got them in the UK. I had a look at a Zoe a couple of months back and if I wanted something for running about locally that was going to cost a couple of hundred a month on a PCP then I'd be all over one.

However, I'm not and the thought of dropping a couple of hundred quid a month into any car that I'll just hand back after a couple of years fills me with horror so I'll just stick to my ten year old SEAT thanks.

I'd have one, if i was commuting. Must be marginally safer than a motorbike, which i'm still not allowed to have, due to total lack of sense.

The side impact protection is about as good as a motorbike. There are some horrible videos proving it (lab not road thankfully!). A Leaf is a proper car. A Twizy is just a bit shit.

They haven't fallen that much. Early Twizy (Twizys / Twizii) are just over £4k now so they've lost about 50%. Still not great though but then a lot of new stuff is the same. In a city they probably make sense but you wouldn't buy one for a 75 mile a day commute unless you were ever so slightly wrong in the head.

That's the point Shirley?

Is that left Twizy or right Twizy?

It's the 21st century Sinclair c5. You can also buy one as a van . You can get the fluence here but I've not seen many. You'd think the Zoe would be the same as the leaf given Nissan and renault are the same company but it's much less sophisticated. It's got a shorter range and only does about 60 flat out. It is half the price though. .

The battery pack totally ballses up residual values as you don't own the whole car .

I actually like them and you don't worry about side protection on a motorbike which is basically what this is . It should be 3 grand or something though it's too expensive .

It may even be this one you saw, I suspect its a Renner owned demo that's doing the rounds. This was in Ipswich a while back

Tbh I really like it. It's like a bike for people that are shit at riding them. Shame it's not petrol though and that I would feel a total twat driving it

75% refers to Fluences, which we did get, and nobody bought because it was a bit stupid.

£24k new, there are 2 on Autotrader for about £6k.

Also has anybody else thought of the Twizy as a BMW C1 with more wheels?

I saw one of these Twizys in Brussels last year:

Saw LOADS of the Fluences out in Turkey. They are as common there as the Insignia is here in the UK.

The Fluence is just a Megane saloon essentially though. Albeit one with a ridiculously large boot. Looks like most of them have 'normal' engines as well which explains why they are popular elsewhere. Electric only version must be a bit of a white elephant.

Given that Renault pulled most of their models out of the UK a few years back, and always come across a bit desperate with deals, I can't say I'm hugely confident of buying a car where the only means of propulsion is then rented from Renault who 1) may not give a shit in three years time, 2) may not exist in the UK in three years time, or 3) may decide they're short of cash so ramp the price of batteries up tenfold.

Plus I don't fancy ending up in hospital after being t-boned by a sponge.

On the back of reading this, I just looked online to see what ever happened to those Carvers as they looked like quite good fun. Might be good fun if you could pick one up for a couple of grand now as they never really took off did they?

Between £22k and Ã¢â€šÂ¬60k

Might pass.
