Also confused! Great to see some fixing happening though..

Errr. I thought this was sold and off to another home?

Confused.

We don't talk about that.

Never getting an M-O-T

I have this vision in my head that this will be played on the in-car music machine as you and Junkman exit the garage on May 20th 2018.

Great news.  Mine has leaked oil for 30 years, probably time I got the same job done.  High time for a sump clean-out,

With all the major problems fixed at last, I can return to my usual pastime of causing new major problems. First up - I wanted to install an expansion tank. Here's the usual coolant level. Put more than this in, and it'll spit it out the overflow.

Might you benefit from a new radiator cap, perhaps?  Could it be as simple as the cap not holding back enough pressure?

And I just have to ask.  What is so secret about your brake fluid reservoir that needs pixellation?

PS I'm still in awe of your upholstery job.

Did you sell it and when you opened the curtains the next day it was sitting back outside the house?

Is it a true expansion tank or is it like the cortina one, which is just there to stop it pissing coolant out into the street when it gets hot? Sounds sensible given the problems I had bleeding mine . Have you considered mounting it on the dashboard it would be easier to top up ?

CC and Junkman have a bad love affair with P6 brakes. When they work they love them, when they don't work they want to give them a good flogging with a branch. Then use the branch to help clear up the brake fluid left on the floor - usually leaking out the rear.

Only when it's not pumped straight into the servo.

Note impeccableness of sills and floors.

I bet the brakes failed.

One thing this thread lacks is videos of that V8 barble.

Let's see what I can do tomorrow.

There's nothing actually wrong with the cooling system, I just fancy upgrading it a bit.

MY BRAKE FLUID LEVEL IS CLASSIFIED INFORMATION.

Thanks, I was just thinking this weekend how comfy the seats are.

It's a legit expansion tank, with a coolant level marked on the plastic and everything!

My rear bumper has always been a bit bent.

But it was never bent enough for me to care. Until last week, when I reversed the car into a bollard and turned it into a boomerang. I don't have a picture of the bollard, but it was the bollard immediately opposite this one:

No-one put cones out for me.

Never mind, I recalled having seen an arrow straight rear bumper in my secret Rover stock (the space behind my dad's shed that he keeps getting upset about). I hoped the chrome would be okay.

It was not.

There was nothing for it but to treat the rust, sand and paint. "Oh my God" you're probably thinking. "A painted bumper is going to look like garbage!" Well, hold your horses - you might be surprised.

...at just how right you are.

But so what? It's a nice straight bumper, the next owner can re-chrome it if they like.

Make it look better* with some wide aluminium foil or a fancy vinyl wrap.

I don't think the scrapman (or woman) would be too bothered about rechroming it to be honest. Well that's what my wife tells me when I say such things.

But yes vinyl wrap might do a reasonable job. At least for a couple of months until it peels all back off.

THAT BUMPER LOOKED BETTER BEFORE YOU PAINTED IT.

*Scuttles away suprisingly quickly for a men with his pants only pulled most of the way up.*

I researched using a chrome effect vinyl wrap, but even the super expensive professional vinyls warned of a short outdoor life. I figured the cheaper-than-postage stuff I was planning to buy from Aliexpress probably wouldn't out perform them.

The painted bumper is unashamedly painted, it is not pretending to be something it's not!

Good thread

I'm enjoying reading about your P6 far more than I enjoyed owning mine. Poxy thing.

I really like this car.  Can I borrow it again to go pulling rich widows at Lichfield Waitrose?

Why does that make me think it's a scene from Dead Poets Society?

Funnily enough I was following a chrome plating company van this morning, would you like me to check the dashcam and get you their number?

Thought not

When I got my new tyres, I painted the wheels with silver wheel paint to make them look a bit bigger. It looked great for a while, but now... not so much.

Today there was a lot of sanding and spraying, returning them to their original black. I fitted new Rover emblems, which are nice.

SnoG2Wx.jpg

I also got a spray can of Almond mixed so I could 'fix' the peeling paint on the bonnet. There's no before picture here, but the paint had been falling off in large chunks and looked abysmal.

There's one more body issue which has been annoying me. One of the door trims is bent, after I mullered it on this bollard:

Ri2PdCN.jpg

...as a result, when the rear door is opened it pushes itself into the rear wing. I was hoping to find a replacement trim when I cleared out my Rover Parts Warehouse (a section of my dad's loft which he keeps getting upset about) but only have the rear wing bit.

With that unresolved, I think that's everything I can do to the car. Tonight I'll take it for a little drive and get some photos for eBay.

Very good work. I would be tempted to try and straighten the dented bumper with some timber and a sledgehammer with the bumper resting on an old blanket, granted it would never be perfect again. Also I have the gas torch and solder here to repair the radiator overflow if needed.

What will the future (or the past) bring?

Your dad sure gets upset about a lot of things.

Has he ever thought about building his own P6 using your various part stashes?

That'd give him something to get properly upset about.

You've seen the parts on the car, can you imagine what my spares look like? Anyway, I reckon you could do it with a donor car:
