I've had it. Selling off a lot of my (French) shite.

Hello all,

Sorry I haven't been keeping up on here, what can I say, I'm 22 and at that hideous stage of HAVING to grow up.

This, combined with these laughable car tax rules coming into force, and the centralisation of the NI system into the DVLA, is forcing me to hang my hat for a while.  Sad, but hey, I owned every car I wanted to but two before I was 22 - that ain't bad, right?

I've cancelled my extortionate insurance come September 5th, I've bought a bike, and I'm fucking doing this.  I want to move out of home, and hopefully to the mainland with my girlfriend by next summer, and if I don't go cold turkey, this shit ain't guna happen.  (Plus she's promising me a petrol C6 for my 25th).

I've narrowed my (vast) collection down to just five permanent members -

My dark red Vel Satis

My Safrane V6

My 2003 2.0 Mégane

My Mégane Coupé Super Luxe (Brown-tastic)

and my Avantime V6

Everything else is going.

Let's start with the CX.  1980 Athena.  Fantastically blue interior, Bodywork is fantastically rough, currently has a hydraulic leak above the passenger wheel - fairly sure it's just a return pipe.  No MOT, and I'm pretty sure it would need a bit of welding.  Ã‚£400.

1979 Volvo 244 DL, it's on eBay, no reserve, here's the link.

1988 Renault 25 Monaco.  I'm pretty sure Prab is having this.  Glorious thing.  Caramac interior, no MOT but I can't see it needing much, if anything.  Ã‚£450.

1989 Volvo 760 GLE estate.  Monstrous V6 growl.  Takes a while to start from cold but runs fine all day long afterwards.  175k miles, belonged to a TV repairman from almost new.  Ã‚£250, no MOT.  ABS light on

1997 Safrane 2.5 RXE Exec.  I'm really reluctant to let this old girl go.  A real faithful thing, mighty comfortable, belt was done 10k miles ago,  Only known Phase 2 Safrane with ergomatic seats.  ROI reg, no MOT or tax.  Ã‚£450.

Ah, there you are! Hope you're well. That CX is far too desirable. I can't blame you for sorting your priorities out, especially if that means settling down with a girl who wants a C6! Crikey.

1997 Xantia V6.  Currently running on 5 cylinders, needs a coil pack.  Includes private plate L10 SLY.  just 50k miles, rare Phase 1.  Having second thoughts on this one also.  Ã‚£450.

Then I have two Citroen C5 V6s.  Both Exclusive models, the light blue one has leather and about 80k miles.  No MOT but again, can't see it being much of an issue, £450.

This silver one has no leather, MOT until November and just 59k miles.  ABS light is on so that'll be an issue come MOT time.  Drives beautifully otherwise, just back from a 1000 mile trip around Ireland. £600.

Vel Satis 2.2 dCi, I suspect the turbo may be on it's way out, but still drives like these barges should - £400.

That made me smile!  Cheers DW, might change her mind when she's sees the annual road tax :/

I like the Volvo 760, even though it's a V6.

I know absolutely Jack about these things, but surely to God £400 is an absolute bargain for that Vel Satis?

CX is amazingly lovely.

The Avantime looks like it's from another planet. The interior is exactly like those concept sketches that never make the final pass.

French design from 70's to 90's really was interesting. :(

I like the CX, but I've already had the pleasure of dealing with chevron enthusiasts online and would need to know what kind of work it would need to pass an MoT.

Hold on, is that TWO Avantimes we've got for sale on here now?!

Soon to be three.

Need. Grow Up. Jesus Christ.

You must really like this one! I say weigh her in and buy more cars!

Holy Fuck, you're 22 AND own a Renault 25!

Welcome to early life crisis. Population: You.

I owned a Ford Escort Mk 3 when I was 22. It was an estate, in blue. Also, it was rusty........Very rusty.

Fuck me there's some stunning metal there, and even more stunning looking seats!

Posted

Only having 5 French cars is just part of growing up ;)

Welcome back, was wondering where you'd got to...

I hate myself for asking - could you get that cx to a ferry port and would it run - drive - lift itself up off the ground enough to roro ?

Looks like they both started out on the Taylor Made Solutions fleet too.
Posted

Yes they're both Taylor made cars. Only those cars got painted that Monaco blue.

Good luck with it Luke but kicking the habit of buying old shite is hard to give up.

I need one more fucking hit!

Posted

Mr Carlos - the CX will lift it itself and run lovely with some LHM (or suitable substitute) put in, but it will empty itself gradually over the next few days.

Yup, the Avantime was a Taylor Made, originally Illiade Blue and you can actually see this in places!

Thanks chaps :)

Good luck Luke!

When I was 22 (33 years ago...) I had this...

Some delicacies in this thread. Just hope your good lady is worth it, 22 is young to be growing up.

This.  I paid more than that for my overheating, temperamental pile of sh*t.  Plus with the 2.2 engine you've got half a chance of being able to work on it - with the 3.0 you'd need to dismantle the car down to the last nut and bolt if you wanted to do anything more than check the oil level.

Posted

That CX is one of the best things I've ever seen! Really wish I had the money and space for it at the moment but it just ain't gonna happen I'm afraid.

Posted

I didn't even own a car when I was 22. You've done well putting this collection together. If I was in the market for another car I would really fancy the low miles non-leather C5.

Posted

Well the 244 seems to have sold to a guy from Co Kildare, we'll see if he gets in touch.

A deposit has been taken on the 760 estate, and the Scénic is now on eBay too.

Trying to work out what else to sort this week, it's all a bit hectic.
