Nissan figaro

I have been tempted to get one of these for the Mrs for some time now but the fact they are imports has put me off. What's parts availability like?

Any common problems?

Any general tips what to look out for?

I have seen one for sale locally with no mot and it's sensible money unlike most that people seem to want 4 grand for.

My missus loves these but everytime I have thought about getting one the prices put me off. So many more interesting cars for their money.

Rust seems a major issues on them and the fact they still command monster money for essentially a Micra.

Rot like crazy, hideous to drive. They look nice. That's the only good thing about them.

I thought they shared a lot of parts with the K11

They may do, but they're K10 based.

100% correct. My lass wanted one so we took one for drive. Even she thought it was cr4p and she loved her WagonR. We decided to just continue enjoying them as we drive past them. The autobox is complete toss.

Get a Copen or Capo!

They are all automatics, they have the 1.0 turbo engine (like the one in the March Super Turbo).

There are literally thousands for sale on ebay, all classifieds, all going for about 3995 - 4995, and all are claimed to be 'RARE'.

If they drive anything like a K10, which seeing as they're 100% based on, then it'll be pretty grim. I love the K10's, but the drive is pretty 'un-inspiring*' and 'wallowy*' around corners.

Or a Be-1:

Or S-Cargo:

All based on the Micra (apart from the SCargo), built at the Nissan Pike factory.

Have only ever driven a Copen out of all of the above but can confirm it was a HOOT!

I still quite fancy a Figaro even though I know how woe-begotten they are.  I've not yet driven one, I expect I'd hate it, so like others I shall live vicariously through other people tootling about in them.  They do seem to be a good investment as these sort of things go, they appear to hold their value very well even when knackered.

I'd take any of those over a Figroll.

Those sCargos are such qwality tat.

Thank-you for that, now i've had to bid on it; hopefully I will be outbid and come to my senses before the end of the auction, remembering that I have no need for it nor anywhere to put it. ( On past performance I will think "oh just one more bid" and end up with it.)

I know, but as it's fairly close to home it's tempting; I've always thought they look awful and I haven't had one before, so it might be time to try one and get it out of my system. At least I should be able to shift it when I get fed up with it/hate it from day one.

Thanks for the input. I will avoid buying one and the Mrs can stick with her Beetle for a bit.

I like the pao the best out of that bunch although I'd make a home for a Nissan dierdrie Rasheed

Agreed. Papped a Pao a few months ago in Ikea carpark - prime chod spotting potential there I have found - in that NHS crockery blue as pictured above and it was indeed a glorious sight. :)

Bum, they've pulled the auction on the Scargo, still it's just as well it's stopped me being silly and buying another unnecessary vehicle.

Don't know what the prices are like now but a few years ago they were ridiculously popular amongst the more-money-than-sense trendy types in certain parts of London which meant folk were paying really silly money for what is basically a rather weird looking one-litre K10 Micra auto.

Drove one years ago, personally, I hated it but each to their own.

I've always fancied a go in one of these, drove a K11 and thought it was high revving, low powered fun and that a Figaro, baderbox or not, must be similar. Why are they considered such shit to drive? How can a slushbox transform a fun car into something that bad?

I think the folk that buy them don't give two hoots if they drive shit they're just in it for its cutesy looks.

Well, that's why my youngest daughter wants a Figaro (plus it featured in The Sarah Jane Adventures which is one of her favourite telly programmes). I think that they look like fun cars and at least stand out from the increasingly anodyne crowd.

Is this thing meant to look like a Wartburg?

I have an auto K10, it's OK, but the auto boxes aren't meant for anything other than lazy driving. Something with that small an engine should never be automatic, it feels like it's never in the right gear and doesn't know when to change (because you're pretty much constantly revving it).
