Shitroen Xsara Pisscasso - opinions?

SWMBO knows that the Meriva's time is near, it just doesnt seem worth fixing it. She had a ride in and a drive of a friends Xsara Picasso the other week and expressed an interest in one. Obv I don't trust new citroens for shit but they do seem cheap enough to have a punt on.

Anyone have any experience? Pez or Derv? 1.6 or 1.8etc. How do they normally shit themselved? Fully or in stages?

1.6 sounds woefully slow, but at £495 i'd expect a straight awap for the Meriva even in its current state!

(Anyone want to swap anything for a Meriva with clonking driveshafts, occasionally burping blue smoke out of the exhaust but hasnt done it for a few days because vauxhall?)

I've been in a few used as taxis, so they can't be all that bad.

Had one for a short while and it wasn't actually too bad. For some reason though they don't half attract the scummy mummy types who park by feel and the interiors usually have more vomit, snot coloured crayons, used bog roll and green 2p pieces than your average McDonalds toilet.

As long as it's ANY other colour than this

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201407065591419/sort/default/usedcars/quicksearch/true/page/1/postcode/sl71hy/onesearchad/used%2Cnearlynew%2Cnew/make/citroen/model/xsara_picasso/radius/30/price-to/1000?logcode=p

then I don't care because I HATE that colour! Any other colour should look pretty nice once washed clayed, polished and waxed, so shouldnt look liek a council estate reject! Can spend a day doing a volksy on the interior too so not too fussed about that, infact a minging one I can work on for £less than a clean one is fine by me as long as the oily bits are fine.

2.0hdi sounds like it would possibly be strong and dare I say reliable and possibly economical, either that or the 1.8 pez, it's  alot of weight to lug around with a 1.6, the Meriva struggles!

Will ponder the idea further, my bonus doesnt come in until the end of August anyway. As long as there's no OMGDONTDOIT issues then it seems a contender! Plus I can say I have 2 citroens on the fleet...

Mums got one ..good round town and on short jaunts misery on a journey. I'd personally get the berlingo. ..easier to park and more practical the Picasso has the steering lock of an oil tanker

Hers is a 1.4 Btw. .great engine..The issue on long journeys us one of seat comfort and body roll

Check the sills, they can rust away nicely hidden by the underseal. Heard a number of tales but the worst was a video I saw on Facebook, which I now can't find.

Mmmm not sure on the berlingo's, they seem overbudget, and tbh if I get SWMBO what she wants, then if she decides she doesnt like it then it's her fault, rather than me getting her something she doesnt want, and getting earache constantly!

Ooh that looks annoying! Will prod carefully now then.

After speaking to her apparently she likes other cars too, she will have a look later. Ffs!

unless you have three kids and need three car seats, and don't have a life, then anything* is better than a Picasso.

*Other equally shit cars are available!!!

We had a 1.8. On board computer said 39mpg on a run,34 around the doors. Nice seating position and seats very comfy. Lots of space but we got rid of ours due to corrosion on the rear.

My ham-fisted best mate had one, a 1.8 SVGA (or something) and even he couldn't kill it. Think of someone less practical and less mechanically sympathetic than Jeremy Clarkson, and that's him. Aside from the brake pedal switch (warranty), nothing went wrong with it in the 4 years he had it.

I know that there are certain vehicles that are just objects for moving people and stuff at slightly faster than walking pace, but these things, and their multitudenous cousins, are a microcosm of what has gone wrong with the modern day motoring. A sucked lozenge on wheels, styled by a CAD drawing and a committee, powered by the cheapest possible motive power that will last until the warranty runs out.

If you need seating for the five thousand, buy an old Merc / Peugeot /Renault / Citroen 7 seater estate. Don't encourage the bastards to produce MORE variants of these abomination

^Yup. I am genuinely amazed that anyone who considers themselves to be a car enthusiast would ever consider spending actual real money on purchasing one of these.

Horrid and absolutely the choice of people who have given up on life.

However, I did have the unfortunate position of having to run one for a couple of months / about 6k miles a few years back and around town it was ok. Think it was a 1.6 HDi which was moderately quick but not exciting. Seats weren't that comfy and it could be genuinely quite frightening / unpredictable / wandering all over the place in a crosswind.

How bad a £500 example must be I can't imagine.

They are good to use as a way from getting people/stuff from a-b, grandad fordperv has a 1.6 8v that I look after and it's excellent, Ive used it to move house and was surprised at the size of the load it can take (ooh err mrs)

I don't think OP was after something cool, elegant or splendiferous though. I got the impression it was an appliance to help a number of humans get from one point to another that was required.

Picasso is therefore OK. Naturally a Matra Rancho in beige would be better but not for £450. My FIL has a Picasso, only needed service items for four years. They form adequate transport, no more.

I recently had a ride in the very back of a 7 seater Vauxhall Zafira, I was disappointingly impressed. Maybe something to think about?.

Posted

I might have a Zafira coming in on monday it's only running on 2 so I am told but has a long mot and tax til the end of the month. I am giving bridge money for it if anyone wants it before it has the cat cut off and alloys removed. It is in weston super mare at the moment.

These two quotes appear to be entirely compatible. "I don't want to enjoy myself or travel in any kind of style. I merely wish to move from one point to another."

I suppose it would be as good a vehicle as any if you simply wish to go to Beachy Head and leave the car parked at the top whilst you top yourself.

Ha, SWMBO likes boring automobiles, and I'm happy with not having to get phoned up saying "there was a noise, don't know what it was but its stopped now..." And then have to worry about it all day.

She does ferry people about during the day, her friends and their children/car seats, her nans getting on a bit now, sisters dogs etc so we have need for space. Any long distance stuff can be dealt with in veggy comfort with the ZX.

If we didn't have need for any of that I'd buy her a puma/old merc coupe but that's life sadly! By the time we can get her a tiny car all the pumas will be rare as fuck and cost ££££s for a wanky 1.4 with rust. Can't wait...

Posted

And that's the great thing about posting on here, I can get the low down from people who know (wouldn't have known about the rust otherwise) with a bit of gentle ribbing* along the way.

Apparently the zafira is too big...ffs. Thanks anyway!

Posted

They must be pretty tough as I recon 95% of them are still running on the oil they came out the factory with and even the youngest ones are 10 years old.

Posted

I don't think the zafiras are that much bigger? Our Picasso certainly seemed larger inside and wider. Disregarding 6th and 7th seat the Picasso boot seemed larger and the rear seats certainly had more space.

Posted

Buy a Multipla, if you've got to be lumbered with something to lug stuff around with, buy something suitably weird...........

I've got a 1.6 petrol Picarsehole I lend out to customers. It had rusty sills which were welded up last year.Apart from the horn not working and the tip of the dip-stick missing (both like that when bought) not had a problem with it, even the aircon still works.

If the tip of my dip stick was missing, it'd be something I'd want sorting sharpish.
