Looks like it has a Manchester coded "limited use" trade plate which was white on red.  I don't know when they were phased out or indeed why they were limited compared to the more common "General Use" red on white ones.

Yes, a Vaux hatchback prototype from the days of the HB Viva, which did end up in a roundabout way as the Chevette in 1975.

UK prototype was built from a shortened HB Viva estate.
