Up for swapz: E34 520i

Just signed up so thought I'd say hello before chipping in as a total stranger.

I'm Andy. Currently living in Bedfordshire and running around in a 520i with lots of miles on the clock, bought for the princely sum of £595. I fancied a mobile sofa after a winter spent commuting in an MX-5 and it does the job.

Picking it up:

Inspecting it on the way home:

With my old Mazda, looking shiny after a hosing down at the local hand car wash and sporting a new set of rimz:

Does it count as shite? I reckon so, but I quite fancy something properly shite. Thinking along the lines of a Nova (saloon, ideally), Austin Metro, maybe something Jap...

It won't happen for a while, though. Apparently I've thrown too much money at cars recently and I need to buy some furniture for the flat I've been living in for six months.

Looks like a good way to spend 600 quid. Clearly gr9 for visiting the haddock shop.

Welcome to the forum! I had mx and BMW 5s together as well, nice as you can take either depending on your mood.

Looks from the pics like you ditched the original metrics like I did when I found out all about a set of replacement rubber being more than I paid for the car!

Welcome aboard. I'm not a huge fan of BMWs but I am a fan of the E34 5-series, I really want one. Preferably a 535i of something.

I once drive a 520i with a modded exhaust, it sounded like a 535i. Ace sound.

Yours looks like it's got leather. If you ever sell, I might be in danger of parting cash for it.

Cheers for the welcome, all!

Yeah, I think the MOT advisory for the rear tyres was partly why the last owner wanted rid. I didn't do my research but fortunately managed to pick up a set of 15-inchers with decent tyres for £50.

Insurance restricted me to a 520, but the straight-six sounds pretty throaty. I like it. And yeah, no cloth here:

Welcome along.  Yep, a £595 BMW will definitely get you in.  Like Lord S, I'm choosy about BMWs but would very much like an E34 at some point.  Last of the good-looking ones, IMHO, although some are getting a bit better again now.

Hello. E34's are ok. Would like one at some point, but find myself drawn moth-like to IBC's finest, and what can only be described as the most stylish and not at all leaky sporting hatchback from Southern Europeâ„¢.

I want to say welcome.

The more I look at your car, the more I want one.

Seriously, please let me have first dibs should you want to part with it.

It's that kinda logic that nearly resulted in a purchase of a Proton Satria GTi as a track slag. The rear bench looked like it'd make a comfortable sofa.

Hello you. Any chance you could pop that Haddock Shop pic in the parking thread? Ta. Any more pix of the Exotic Dangers please, I'm feeling a bit risky?

Nice 520! Welcome along, enjoy your stay, and no pinching the bath towels on your way out.

Welcome.

Seems an incredible bargain if it is half decent.  I had a limited edition one briefly - got a lot more than that for it.

Welcome along! What a great looking 5-series. :)

I'm half fancying a change, so would any shiters like a swap? Can't be arsed selling it... Too much hassle, but if anyone has anything that tempts me and fancies a straight swap they could be driving home in the pimpiest of BMWs.

Current situation: it's just clocked over 180k. Never really let me down (bar the slave cylinder, changed by a friendly AA man). I've also changed the rad as it was original and holey.

The last owner had it for 14 years, and it's got a service book with lots of stamps. The oil service light has just come on, and I reckon it's about due an oil change.

After experience with a rotten MX5 I was very worried about rust when buying this. It has got some bubbling around the front arches, but it is only cosmetic and could probably be repaired, I reckon. Worst case scenario you change the two front wings. Structurally it's sound. I've even pulled the side skirts off to check. The lack of sunroof helps, I reckon.

Anyway, it's MOTed until November. It has a few months tax, I think - will check if anyone's interested. Only advisories on the last MOT were tyres, which I've changed.

Located in Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire. Feel free to ask away if you've any questions. Here are some recent pics - the grille is chrome again now.
