Steel prices dropping by all accounts...What's everybody getting for scrappers these days? Say for a Rover 400 weight... :)

I wouldn't blame the scrap man if he asked you to pay him.

Got £40 for a MKIII Festa at the weekend (sans alloys and cat).

That sucks. I got £160 for a mk3 fiesta in june.. would have been £210 if id held off a few weeks too.

£20 a ton as of yesterday? The era of the "free" car is suddenly back with us!

My mate scrapped a hearse a few days ago and got £50 for it.

I guess the pikeys have less reason now to hiab heavy shite barges.

There's still the usual dreamers on eBay starting their crates at 150 quid or so stating "opening bid is scrap value"...

What a shame! what was it? I've always wanted one before I die!

It was a Mk1 Rover 800 hearse, it had terminal rust and the head gasket failed, it just wasn't worth the bother.

Picture flatters it to be honest:

Hearses seem to rust more than the equivalent cars, probably down to not being rust-proofed as well after the conversion. This is my old one, sorry about the bad pics but they weren't that good to start with & I don't have a scanner

I'm still a member of the Classic Hearse Register & have loads of magazines,so if anyone's interested,I'll start another thread for Shite Hearses  .You'd be surprised what's been used....

Inadequate rustproofing + washing every day = rusty fail after a time.Having said that I would be chuffed to make my final journey in a Mk1 Granny riding on Wolfies

Having buried / cremated a few elderly relatives I can safely say that the Funeral Home on the corner of Rippon St in Preston had the shite-y-est hearse by a shitty mile - an Austin Princess. Looked lovely, I bet my Grandfather was well pleased with that as he loved all things BL.All the rest used Daimlers or Carletons, in fact the last one we buried (the wifes 94 year old gran) made her last trip in the back of what looked for all the world like a last model Granada / Scorpio hearse made by Dorchester (the living got to ride in a Jag limo).Been to a couple of funerals where hore and carts have been used and one where a motorbike and side car was used. I bet that was fun to ride, I mean corpses are heavy enough (esp fat bastard bikers) but coffins weigh a ton too, even the shitty spray painted up MDF ones with real plasytic gold handles.Im quite interested in being freeze dried then shaken into dust when I go.

Father Marty, I’m a bit worried by the typo on hore and carts being used, hopefully you meant horses but it’s got me wondering…

WOW. Having a few whores at a funeral must liven proceedings up a touch.

When I was in Cov polytechnic I lived on Lower Hollyhead Road, just down from the Co-op funeral parlour. In a snowy December it was cool to see the hearses wheelspinning up the road 8)

Yes I did mean Horse, not Hoe - Im not sure whats worsse here , the fact I typed Funeral Whore into google or the fact this picture turned up:

Been to a funeral where there were a few working girls (and boys) but none were turning tricks, they all wanted to get to the pub and get wrecked.... But thats another story.
