Discovery Tdi for sale - Dollywobbler's 'doh!' moment

As pleased as I was to not sell the Discovery, sadly I remain penniless and struggling to justify owning a Land Rover I don't really use very much.

Quick recap. MOT Sept, tax Mar, needs nearside sill welding (and probably floor), doesn't understand the concept of keeping water outside (they all do that guv), runs well though 2nd gear a bit iffy if rushed and transmission noisy. Had cambelt, water pump and rad last year, stupendous off-road.

Looks like this, but with some scratches down the nearside, and better wheels.

Asking £795, located near Aberystwyth.

Er, possibly. In fact, a deal could probably be done on anything decent on motorways and 20+ years old.

Sorry for the delay. I was watching Lord of the Rings. The bit about filming the horse scenes. In which they use a BX as a camera car...

A PM has been sent forthwith.

Mwha ha ha

After a flurry of PM's I think we have a deal.

This forum is all that it used to be :-P

Fantastic price for the car, Dollwobs, and If I had not just bought a Series Landy I would be on that like a bad smell, but GLWTS.

I'd say it's a fair price rather than fantastic. It isn't one of the best, but it certainly isn't one of the worst. Looks like I'd better increase my LHM stocks again!

Could you swap sheet metal and rivets (aka boot floor) for LHM?:)

Glad its offski with something fun in return.

If you bring your new acquisition up this way for work, I have plenty of LHM in stock ;-) After I cleared out all the litre bottles that were for sale in a £1 shop!

Nice one then, so is this the ex RobT, me (briefly), catsinthewelder BX now off to wobbler towers?

Shes a right slut isn't she ;)

Some way to go before she catches up with the council estate.

As I had a free afternoon and it wasn't raining I've spent a couple of hours prepping the BX.

The passenger doorhinge has been split from the bodywork (normal BX behaviour) since before Rob bought it but has started to droop a little lately.  Fortunately there was hardly any rust so I could weld it into place without removing the door or the wing.  Nice and strong but no chance of dressing it with a grinder.

After a quick inspection of underneath confirmed that there is very little it should need for a fresh Mot I made use of works pressure washer to wash the winter salt off the bodywork.

Pics should be forthcoming when it is somewhere nicer than the work carpark

I'd rather have solid welding than pretty welding! Thanks.

As reported in the News thread, the Disco hasn't entirely been behaving itself, but will itself undergo a little fettling session on Tuesday. I recalled today that it took me a good while to get used to the gearchange, as the springs are a bit dicky. I wondered if this might be a problem, but then remembered you had a VW camper, so you're probably used to fishing for gears! It's quite easy to get used to, just remember that the default plane is first/second. If you move the lever to the left to find first gear, you'll actually be in reverse. GR8 for terrifying people in queues! Fourth is also not quite straight back from third, so you need to move it towards you slightly on the way through. I do it without even thinking about it these days.

I'm looking forward to going back to an NA diesel again though. I will miss the Disco's turbo whistle.

This could get interesting,  the VW and Austin are both SORNed at present and both have 'quirks' about changing gear generally involving 2nd.  One of the LDV's at work has a 2nd-5th habit to add more fun

That sounds like it's got the box from a Series LR in it.

Must be a knackered one then.

Got some serious air this morning.

New rear radius arm bushes fitted. The old ones were about as soft as concrete. While it was in the air, I found this:

Sorry Rich! No wonder the exhaust sounds so fruity. I really quite like the sound.

Oh well,  that will be 3 cars getting patches from one old BX exhaust pipe.

At least I should be able to crawl under a Landy without a liberal scattering of axle stands :-)

After spending a good deal of this week absolutely certain I'm doing the wrong thing with this deal I seem to have come out the other side and have spent the evening looking at greenlaning videos on youtube.

Weirdly I think the catalyst for this is Wills 306 thread as it's reminded me that I want one at some point and have been meaning to get one since before I passed my test. This reminds me that there's an awful lot of cars out there that I've not driven yet so I need to get over BX's for a bit and try a few.

Panic over etc ;)

To be expected. I've spent some time saying to myself "If I like BXs so much, why didn't I keep any of the ones I've owned previously?"

I reckon a Discovery is one of the best off-road machines you can buy. Simple, yet very effective. There are some wonderful lanes around my area. Could always take you out for a trek if you fancy. ;)
