Time and space are tight at CMS Towers. This means an clearout. All shite, mostly unworthy, anything considered but probably rejected. Pics to follow around 6pm when I get home from work.

1) 1988 Volvo 760 2.3 Turbo Auto saloon: MOT May, Tax April, 99,500 miles. Body rough, mechanically pretty sweet. ABS grumpy but probably decent for spares. Sunroof leaks. £300 shiters price.

2) 1989 Vauxhall Cavalier 2.0 SRi130 hatch: No MOT, no tax, 165,000 miles. Haze blue. Bulkhead needs plated at the nearside steering rack mount, body otherwise fair, good interior, engine & 'box good. I'd say too good to scrap but I'm biased 'cos it was mine, it'd be your choice. Comes with a set of four original wheeltrims. £300 shiters price.

3) 1991 Vauxhall Senator 3.0i CD 24v auto: Ex Pete-M of this parish, 106,000 miles. Star silver, needs welding finished on driver's side sill. Has had both rear outer and inner arches replaced, both rear seat belt anchors replaced, most of driver's side sill plated, all plating done on nearside sill. Mechanically excellent, not MOT or tax. Body fair to good, interior immaculate. £350 shiters price seem fair?

4) 1992 Volvo 940 Wentworth 2.0 Turbo Auto saloon: MOT November, tax April I think.180,000 miles, body pretty good but dented NSR quarter panel. LPG conversion, towbar, interior good, petrol gauge inoperative. Has an engine vibration but still drives okay and pulls fine, think it's a duff pulley. New brakes all round, ABS all good, heated seats work, no airbag, radio missing but a Volvo radio cassette can be supplied with code. Has a natty boot spoiler to go with it's wheeltrims. £350 shiters price seem fair?

That cavalier sounds lush! Is it a mk 2?

The lpg Volvo sounds smashing too!

Early Mk3 IIRC. The Senator is high on my wish list, but sadly comes below actual money.

The 940 wenty Turbo is a super car - +++shitter barge points. I used to have one of these and they are seriously nice bits of kit to waft around in with enough grunt to lose your trousers - fuel gauge went on mine too - dodgey connection......ooooh tempted!

You do know if these don't sell within 3 days you have to weigh them in right? New autoshite rule

ooooooshhhh! I want another 3.0 24v senator....... but not right now :(

All sound like bargains. I would be tempted by the Cav if I was in a better car storage/money situation myself. GLWTSETC

That wenty is lovely - reminds me of my old one - superb big, comfy indestructible cars

Thats what I've found Scooters, it's been giving the Council Estate a bit of a rest recently but I'm getting a manual 940 2.3LPT estate that's a bit newer - a mere 17 years old - so something has to give. If it doesn't go it'll be kept, not planning on scrapping anything. There's no point, I don't own a Peugeot :(

So, realistically, what sort of a job is the welding on the Cav?

The MOT fail from August 2010 was...

The tester to failed it reckoned it was "just" a case of undoing the nearside steering rack mount at the bulkhead, cut out, plate, refit steering rack. It failed on are two holes about 1in x 1/2in at the bulkhead, and they reckoned a plate about 2in x 2in on the NSR inner sill would sort it. Naturally they refused to quote for the work and it's languished since, as at the time I had use of a Motability car and my tame welder was "never quiet enough" to get it started.

AAAARGH, why couldn't this have been a couple of weeks ago when I was after a new shitter?

That K plate 940's a pretty decent old bus from what I remember, I'd have had that off you no worries.

GLWTS etc...

I've been tempted by fast Volvos lately, and that one looks nice but after driving around in my Merc for a couple of months I don't think I could stand another automatic. I thought I'd get used to it, but it's just not happening. Maybe it's time to accept I just hate auto boxes.

Shame, because I could really do with a break, and an epic tat collection from Glasgow to Devon is immensely appealing.

Having slithered into middle age in the last year I am now a big fan of slush boxes in barges anyway, I also have developed arthritis in my left arm and hand so gear changes are sometimes not easy - although so far in the landies I seem ok probably cos I double de clutch and it's not exactly a quick process

Either the Cavvy or the Senator would be good for me but I cant do sod all until the end off next month.

Posted

Oh dear, I want all of these.

What work do you reckon the senator still needs to be ticket-worthy ?

Posted

All of them look tempting! I like the idea of a slightly down at heel 760, they seem pretty rare as recent e bay over the last months searches haven't thrown up any. Just how rough is the body?

Not so much a rule, but more like the most boring 'joke' on Autoshite.

That Cavalier is an early Mk3 and the SRi is the best model EVER.

It looks like it's been polished with a scourer. Back arches are solid but unpleasant, there is a great deal of lacquer missing, the sunroof pisses water in but I've not resealed it yet, it's had some welding and a not very pretty at all repair to the OSF suspension turret. Other than occasional ABS grumpiness and a flat tyre at the moment it seems okay. If that makes sense.

I could be interested in reviving the cavalier , still a bit short on space though

My tongue fell out of my gob when I saw that Senny. My all time favourite car.

Then I saw where it's located.

Bugger.

1989 8V 130 bhp SEH MK3 : mechanically almost identical to a 1988 SRi 130 Mk2 without the oil cooler.

I loved those cav sri's as a kid. I found one of the original mk3 SRI wheel trimz in a hedge and proudly attached it to my bedroom wall. I think that's when my parents started to worry!
