Current ride, 2 litres of finest Swedish POWWAAHH!

Sadly departed. The engine in this was why I got £400 for the old Merc and not about half that amount.

Saab Turbo.

And another sexy Swede, my old Amazon. 8)

Corvair always fancied one of these as there are a few in France and pretty cheap but I could see it being a right nightmare

Oh I think the scarey bit is the Lucas Coil. (Have you a spare in the boot ?)

Ever since the Jag bonnet flipped off in the autumn....

Theres been no 'under bonnet' scenery as such.....

attachicon.gifIMG_2136.JPG

As theres no bonnet!

I should be picking the replacement bonnet up soon I hope as I havent taken it out since it happened!

The XK engine was designed to look impressive at the behest of William Lyons. Doubt he'd have been impressed with the in need of a polish cam covers, nor the pie foil acting as a heat shield for the air intake trunking! Soz Bill, needs must

1.9 litres of normally aspirated oil burning power shifts the little Clio along well enough. Nicely packed in and plenty of options when it comes to setting down a cuppa, unless it is running when in which case any tea cup within 10 yards is liable to crack due to vibration and/or audio trauma.

That intake \ plenum thing reminds me of the Pompidou Centre for some reason.

Yes!  It's always more fun to get out and push.  Fit a Lucas alternator and you can do it in the dark.  Joy!

Jeep Grand Cherokee 4L.  Easy enough to work on, apart from removal or refitting of the radiator (because of the mechanical fan).

I don't think there can have been many cars as simple under the bonnet as a the Pony pickup bu the 90's. There's acres of room under there and everything is really easy to get to and work on....

Ralph Nader loved those, the interior heater worked by blowing air directly over the engine. Healthy

Interestingly he also writes alot about how equally shit the Beetle was engineered, although we all here know that anyway.

No, it is pure petrol!, about 34 mpg.

Took a time to find one, according to how many left, about 1 in a 1000 is petrol.

Can't be too many transit connect petrol's about . Is it lpg?

They are all petrol here.

I don't think diesel is even an option.

Side note, non-shite... this is actually quite a nice looking engine but Dodge chose to hide it under swathes of plastic.

I've never owned a car with 16 spark plugs before.

Oil-soaked T-Series from the mighty Rover 220.  Everything's visible but it's a bit tight in there for wielding spanners.  The Turbo with added aircon plumbing must be absolutely crammed in.

Since this was taken it's now got actual coolant in the header tank and a shiny new radiator.  Still not sure whether to spruce it up with a steam clean or not.  It may be filthy but it's well protected!

What are the saucers on the suspension turrets for?

Putting your tea on of course!

Here's my '71 Bluebird back when it had it's 2.4 twin cam. I reckon these engines were designed for the LHD (US) market... lots of room on the LH side and none on the right. It was still nice and easy to get to most stuff though but it wouldn't have mattered anyway as it never needed fixing...

Here's a previous incarnation with a hybrid 2.0L built from a Cabstar block with an L18SSS head. A joy to work around as there was a ton of room (sounded glorious too!)
