Finally found someone flogging used interior lights for the MK1 Sierra - £23.50!!! Shitting Norah! 'Because Cosworth/MK2 Escort', apparently. Nuts to that the one I missed last time was NOS and was unsold at less than a fiver!

Posted

Aren't sierra interior lights the same as every other ford of that era. is common as muck

You'd think so, but all I ever find are MK2 Sierra which are completely different. I'll try a few other variations though and see what turns up.

In other news, I have had a gander at that how many left site and according to them there is only one other 1982 MK1 Sierra Ghia Auto on the road other than mine and only 2 more SORN'd. That can't be right - can it?

1982 Autos were hen's teeth. I had a 2.0, but it crumbled. UK built see.

There is a XR4X4 of 1990 vintage at my local breakers, if there's any interchangeable parts you can put on yours then let me know.

I have quite a lot of small mk1 bits buried away.  Might have an interior light but if so, not a special one.

Got a few doors :)

Off to Bishop Aukland tomorrow to pick up these:

£20 the pair. Now I just need two more...

Hoping to get MOT'd this month as really missing driving it. :-(

Just had someone knock on door offering to buy. Left their card, promised it wasn't for parting out and/or bangering but I don't know...

Not sure I could sell to just anyone at this point.

It appears the back of the nearside sill is pretty much gone now and will probably be MOT fail. A quick and dirty repair is going to be around £150 (2 hours labour and some steel). If I do it properly, roughly £60 in panels +labour again. I don't think my heart is in it anymore. This hasn't gone on ebay or anywhere else yet just putting it up here and possibly the Sierra forum to see if there is any interest. Someone who could weld could no doubt make this good, but that someone just isn't me. Just not feeling the love and I'm moving this week and can't afford another drain on the wallet.

Good bits:

Mechanically solid. Was my daily driver for a year and other than the timing belt stripping some teeth was 100% reliable.

In last couple of months I have replaced rear shoes, cylinders, pipes and flexis. In last week has had new control arms and brake master cylinder.

Timing belt done end of last year.

Usual service parts such as leads, distributor cap, oil etc. and a K&N air filter.

Tyres are legal but old.

Other than the sill it is as far as I am aware solid as a rock underneath due to rust proofing by original owner. I have been told by more than one mechanic that they 'haven't seen one this clean in 20 years'.

Dealer plate on back.

Bad bits:

That rusty sill.

Front offside strut leaking slightly but at moment not MOT fail.

Only one washer jet as driver side fell into body somewhere.

Temp gauge has never worked.

Tape deck pretty much shagged now.

Electric aerial has never worked, so no radio.

Paint is as flat as a witches tit.

Bumpers a bit wonky.

No interior lamp. Bits are all there and working, just needs the plastic cover as original disintegrated.

Arm rest lid hinge broken.

Chav plate on front.

I don't even know what I want for it yet. I'm too disheartened right now so I'm off to the pub...

:(

where abouts are you in the country?  if i were you id be repairing it as its minor work really compared to some of the rust areas that crop up on these but its all how you feel about the car

Posted

Shame it has the wrong gearbox but i reckon that's still a cracking car for someone. You should keep at it and get it fixed, what's £150 these days?, it's less than a main dealer service on a modern Focus.

I'm in Sunderland, mate.

I think I'll just stick it through it's MOT see just how bad things are. Things is, even if I was to get it repaired and MOTed I would still be selling. I just realised today that I have driven nothing but Fords for the last 8 years and if I'm honest I'm getting bored.

Right, this is till for sale but I'm going ahead with the MOT. Depending on what that says I guess it will decide what the next step is!

How much do you want for it?

And that's the thing. If it was a manual I may be more inclined to spend the money on it but right now I feel like I'm better off cutting my losses and putting the money towards a car I actually do want and wouldn't resent spending time and money on!

To be honest with you Cavcraft I need to have a think but I'm open to offers or suggestions. I really don't have the foggiest what it's 'worth' without a ticket and jobs doing. I'll probably have a better idea when the results of the MOT are in later on in the week and I know what the financial implications of that will be.

ah bugger a bit too far for me to buy something for the sake of it, before offering it up on ebay etc ask stixy if hes interested he loves these auto sierras

Posted

Basically 2 hours labour + the steel. I'll be getting a second opinion, though, so I'll see what they say.

If welders are getting paid £70 an hour up there im coming home(Boldon Colliery ) 8)

If it helps to get an idea on prices, my tamed mechanic charged me £20 to patch the jacking point up on the rear of the sill and a drain hole up on the floor of my old 190E. £150 sounds ambitious at best.

That sounds like an "I don't want to do it" price on the welding. No shitters nearby who'd hit it with their sparkly wand for a case of beer?

Prices for welding are hard to judge.  On one hand we might have a top job that takes hours, on the other hand a quick patch.  But you mention two hours?  Sunderland is the home of British welding - I think you could get a better price.

Sounds a really good car, an 82 Sierra?  How Many Left site is a bit difficult to get info from, but that is seriously rare.

Good luck with it.

I'd fucking love this. Haven't had a Mk1 since my 2.0 Ghia Estate in 2002. I sold it to buy a MB W126.... I have a white Sapphire, but it's sat dead. Crumbly sills etc lol..... but wad is tight, and so am I. Had you announced it for sale before Crimbo, I had cash..... :(

This is tempting. I don't need another car but.......

I like Fords and had a 1.6L Mk1.

Definite attention grabber at shows nowadays. Every other person had one, now they're all gone. This will make someone a cracking car.

Get quotes. Even £150 is'nt that bad.

Cleaning everything for welding and prepping the new steel takes the time - the welding is fairly quick.

My mate is a cracking welder and charges £15 an hour or so, but He's up here in fife, 150 miles north of you.

Why not prep it yourself? That would save a few quid and give all concerned a better idea of what is required. Just a thought.
