How fast was THIS going?

I was thinking it was a Mitsubishi Lancer rather than a Lexus.

Never noticed how similar those two cars looked from behind, my money's still on a Lexus RX though.

Edit.  No, actually, looking at the rear light/bumper arrangement, I think Sandie is right.

Shit me that driver is a lucky person, if I was him I'd buy a lottery ticket

Lexus was my thought too. They must have been traveling f***ing fast to do that

Look at the rear bumper (reflectors) and wheels. Definitley a Lancer Sportback.

I'd go lancer based on the wheels

Judging by the rear bumper shape where it meets the wing and the rar fog hole in the middle of the bumper, I would say Lancer.

Very lucky people.

Fast? Fuggin' warp speed. Lucky indeed but a knob jockey all the same.

Fuck knows what an 'SUV' is, sounds like another stupid Americanism. It looks like a Lexus 4x4 or something similar.

Sports Utility Vehicle, another thing on the long list of stuff i learnt from The Simpsons.

Canyonero

Ha ha, Homer.

The Canyonero would have exploded in to flames after a supermarket car park trolley ding!

Posted

Can you name the truck that's 4 wheel drive

Smells like a steak and seats 35

Canyonero! Canyonero!

12 yards long and two lanes wide, 65 tons of American Pride

Canyonero! Canyonero! Canyonero!

Whoa, Canyonero! Whoa!

Blimey how many ncap stars awarded for hitting a sheet of thin metal evidently hard to judge as it did protect the occupants quite well with minimal impact but being ejected from that rats nest of jagged metal unscathed is impressive good luck and thankful for the averted tragedy

I wonder if we are back in the days of dodgy spotwelding and thin chassis rails ending half way up a spotwelded togetherfloorpan with how it delaminated the door apertures off the roof !

Id want the car back after the insurance had it........

To mount over the mantle piece as a trophy to being alive.

Granted, he must have been doing some speed, but I bet 70mph into a cheese wire could easily do that....... Lucky bugger.

I don't think it's possible to hit a motorway sign sideways on, you wouldn't be able to read it if it was. He must have hit one of the pillars. Whatever happened, both driver and car were firmly in the "not good enough" category.

Posted

Those end barrier pillars scare me. Notice how they've changed them from a barrier gently sloping up from the ground to a big block end with black and yellow hazard stripes. Presumably to stop a vehicle going up the old type one and taking a flying lesson then rolling over onto the carriageway. Now they must expect you to die.

I think the big block ends have dampeners so if you hit one at 70mph you'll just bounce back off again and drive away.

Isn't that what happens anyway, whatever you hit? [/GranTurismo]

I saw a MK3 Golf do that after a blow out on the M1, crossed all 3 lanes, climbed onto the barrier where it sloped down and then skidded along the top then back onto the hard shoulder.

They have a crumple zone now. The new ones attempt to slow or stop the car instead of launching it into the air and flipping it onto its side like the old ones.

I think the old ones were designed using the 'spike on the steering wheel' approach to road safety.
