ebay 'BARGAINS'

You make it sound like there's only one Mini lunatic. I know several! That's the problem. Quite a few people have actually stashed Minis away thinking they'll become hugely valuable. Not if it's anything post-1970.

How I detest these people, I'm a self confessed Mini nutter but the over inflated prices they go for these days is sickening (to the point that I'll probably never be able to afford to get myself one even as a project) - was watching a rather sad looking '79 example on e-bay this week with interest as it was localish and had an MOT (wouldn't pass another one given the state of it but at least I could drive it home) - anyway I lost interest when it went over £300, ended up going for almost £900

I love Minis but not that much, I can think of many more useful things to do with £900.

Here it is if you fancy a laugh at the winning bidder's unhinged grasp of reality.

Couldn't agree more. I have had several Mini's and the prices these days are really silly.

I however would only have bid once on that auction. I can see no real reason for making auctions 'private'

His listing: "private listing - bidders' identities protected" i.e I will be getting my mate up the road to put a few bids on, just to be sure i get my money.

That one needs new wings, A panels and a front panel, that along with the rear subframe and the welding on the cabin floor would put it way beyond me, It would probably finish up costing well over £2,000 for me to get sorted so it would actually be cheaper for me to buy a BINI, is that how much they have gone up?

Feedback left by the unhinged buyer: Thank you very much she will be repaired and loved by us all.

Like the seller gives a toss, i bet the only thing he wishes is that he had about 10 of them.

bloody hell! What a pile of cheese - a shit brown 79 Mini - ayone who has 30 mins expereicne of driving these cars will know EXACTLY wherethe rot wil be and how much knuckle skin you would lose working it..

a lad along te road from me bought a 1981 'restored' 1000 - in nice origial nick but he paid...3 grand! for t. He's a young lad and I told him to get some rustproofer on it promnto and to stuff the boxes fulll of waxoyl..he looked at me in a patronising sort of way and told me that it had been 'restored using special steel' I pointed out that it wasn't the new stuff he sould worry about - it was th 90% of the rest of it..he obviously knew better and used it throughout last winter with no protection!!!!

last week he showed me the extensive corrosion to sub frame (new) and sills, doors as well.....he's now talking about suing the restorer...I pointed out that this was par the parcel of ownership of these cars and when the restorer showed that he had not in fact protected it over winter the judge, recalling his own BL car ownership would laugh him out of court. Much better to spend the money on getting the rust repaired AND waxolying the whole thing - twice

This seemed reasonably appropriate for this thread - £6k for a Lada

Ok so it's shiny new and you'll probably never see another one on the road but there's no pride in driving a Lada that doesn't look like one - just think of the laughter when your friends see your new autoblob and ask what you it is.

I'd much rather have spend my £6k on 240 of these and be marked out as a real winner:

I'd pay six grand (if I had it) for the Lada, it looks ace.

Now, if people can keep finding more over-priced tat and posting it up I'd be grateful, can't bear to look at the Cavalier on the top of this page much longer knowing I can't afford it.

I would love to own a mini, a nice 80s or early 90s one. However, there is no way I am willing to pay the ridiculous prices that they go for.

Me too, but /\ /\ imho Tartan was right with his £300 bid that's what it is worth taking into consideration the work needed to make the car roadworthy and presentable, ah well. :(

I think they are still cheap. People seem to put them up for a lot but they don't sell. You can still get pretty clean examples for good money. Look at this honey:

£1,550

Or this for even less:

They may get over 2k for some earlier ones in pretty good nick but I think that's a good price for a popular useable classic? Others might disagree? My feeling is that they are cheaper that I would expect.

They are not as good as Imps though.....

I'd rather have ebola than another Mini. Hateful, leaky, rusty pieces of shit.

A Mini is still certainly on my automotive bucket list. As with the Capri, I just wish I'd bought one when I passed my test nearly 10 years ago when they were being given away

+1. I liked them when I was a kid but was well and truly cured by owning one. Unreliable, uncomfortable, slow, noisy and grew rust for fun. I'd rather walk which, coincidentally, as a Mini owner I did rather a lot of

That's surely meant to be 1200.

It is indeed £1,200 now. Must have been a typo in the original ad.

Love the fact that the Montego owners neighbours have come out to laugh at him taking pictures of it.

It's about £8k too salty and the bumpers are wrong, but apart from that I reckon if I won the slottery I'd probably buy that.

Posted

Soz like but that's actually pretty horrible looking. Stripes, nasty sort of 'M3 lookalike' mirrors and the seemedly council estate 'back to black' bonanza don't look too appealing to the eyes.

Posted

Mirrors and stripes are standard. The "Carlsson turbo" letters pasted on the side passed me by the first time.

Edit: And the bumpers shouldn't be black. It needs quite a lot of sorting, but it's be a lovely base to start with I reckon.

Edit 2: Hang on, those wooden door caps are all wrong too. I might need to take more water with this...

Yes, M3 mirrors are actually SAAB 9000 lookalike mirrors.

That's my issue with it, along with the way-over price.

He's chavved it up whilst not using it

The original Carlsson looked much better, which is what I'm looking for. Providing SWMBO doesn't catch me buying one

This frag fodder Panda, Accident damaged, lots of broken and saggy bits, surely a bargain at £300 start price... WTF
